    Ah, so Henry stands up every time a woman comes into the room? Yeah, if I were one of them other lads I would so pull a trick where I'd just keep sending women into the room until he is essentially doing chair squats.

    I am a bit of a practical joker myself, so in my younger years, I would have done that too. It is great, however, to see the charm of old traditions reappear. In my teens, I got into a practice of opening doors for ladies. The older ladies loved it, but the younger ladies often chewed me out for it. It wasn't politically correct in Oregon back then...maybe even today. It wasn't until I lived in Germany for a 7 year period that I could safely open doors for the younger ladies. 😃

  • @bantonphoenix

    @@BobHoughtonProductions It is a charm, but I think it is also about common courtesy. I am a woman, but I also hold the door open for people, it is not about them being a man or a woman, if I happen to be there and I can, why wouldn't I? It's just being kind and helpful. And if somebody holds the door open for me I recognise their kindness and just say thank you. Political correctness is so diverse and differs so much place to place. Chewing someone out over something so small is unnecessary. But the ones chewing you out, that may not even be because of you, it could also be they are just having a bad day. What people project onto you is more about them after all. One doesn't know the why behind it, that goes both ways. I like traditional, but I like practical jokes too, so if I ever get that chance... better not skip leg day in the meantime, Henry. **sweet smile**

    @@bantonphoenix In the UK I think it’s more related to class and upbringing. I’m a young female of middle class upbringing who held the door for the person behind me at school when I was in Y7 (I was 11 so that’s probably like 5th grade in the US?), and she literally said “I don’t hold doors…”before strutting right past me and the rest of the tutor group followed her with the so-called “authority” figure gormlessly looking on. So I ended up “holding the door” for the rest of my class like a right plonker. 😂 She was dragged up, I was brought up. Feminism had nothing to do with it. 💀

  • @bantonphoenix

    @bantonphoenix

    @@phoenixrose1192 I agree, it's definitely upbringing and a certain amount of class. I have had my plonker moments, standing there like a lemming letting a whole bunch of people through because none of them would hold the door. I have no idea about years or grades in education in the US or in the UK. I'm Dutch. I have seen education change here, not for the better. Respect slowly going out the door, but I think that's everywhere. Parents are too busy being distracted or having to work several jobs just to get by. It is no wonder there is less and less of real actual upbringing. Values are so important. I think many parents these days expect the school to do it for them as they themselves don't have the time, whereas schools are so overwhelmed (and many teachers verging on burnouts) that they simply don't have the time either and/or the ability. So, many children end up lacking some very important basics.

It was so hard not to laugh and keep a straight face when people need to stand in a very floppy way, arms down and mouth wide open and everybody doing a very low "aaaaaaaaaaahh" sound.
