I love how documentaries about male killers always say: 'he was handsome, charming..alluring... you wouldn't suspect that he could hurt a fly.........' and then they proceed to show a picture of the guy and he looks like a crackhead thumb.

@@bradhurst6834 Attractiveness is subjective though. For example, I am personally repulsed by Kim Kardashian, and yet she's lauded as an insanely hot woman by millions of people. For her to be objectively attractive, you would need to 'prove' my stance to be wrong. And it has everything to do with taste. The notion that someone couldn't truthfully look at that photograph and feel that there's nothing physically remarkable about him is ludicrous.

My parents used to live 2 doors down from Fred West in Gloucester and my dad once borrowed a ladder off him and had him round for a cup of tea. Fred also helped my mum change her car tyre as well in the pouring rain once. Both my mum and dad say that he seemed like the nicest bloke you'll ever meet, which makes it all the more surprising. My dad still has a photo of him and Fred together at a neighbours BBQ in the mid 80s. They were never friends or anything, just neighbours. Talk about chilling.

I’ve noticed while researching and watching these documentaries that something a lot of these serial killers have in common is that a lot of them have had some sort of head injury during childhood, and a lot of the time were also abused during childhood. The head injuries seem more common though. Just an interesting observation I made, I’m sure others have seen this connection as well.

If only there was a way this behavior had been looked into earlier. Koodos to the lady detective that convinced her bosses that something evil was happening at the residence. With an IQ of 80, what kind of work did he do that paid him enough to buy a house and hire a nanny? Throughout there are so many holes or facts that just don't add up correctly. I pray all the victim's families are able to cope and get past the horror of this nightmare.

O think the IQ thing might be a bit of a red herring. It could be argued that if they were more intelligent, then they'd have been better at evading the authorities and more skilled at manipulation. I'd say the brain injury and abuse are enough to explain the type of abhorrent behaviour that he/they indulged in.

@Piatequila It seems like I was replying to a comment that is no longer here. You're mixing up excusing something and explaining it. Also, there is no set 'muderer genes', it doesn't work like that. But given certain genetic factors mixed up with environmental/family/childhood trauma, and it makes it more likely that people like this will exist.

No matter how many documentaries I watch on these two I still can't believe it it's beyond anything I can imagine it's horrific. I can't even begin to imagine how their children have gone on to live their lives coz I dread to think of how hellish life was for them. I've just watched see no evil the moors murderers on itv x and as awful as that is it's a brilliantly made 2 part drama but like this it just leaves you baffled, baffled at how anyone can do such monstrous things. It's impossible to get my head around the evil some people can do. It really is mind boggling.

From 15 years old onwards and then when I was at college in London I used to hitchhike all the time. It was a great way for young people to get long distances cheaply and people were so good at picking up I always made it quicker than a coach from London to the north of England. When you arrived at the beginning of the motorway out of London there would be 10 people waiting and you'd get a lift within 30 minutes. It was super common and normal in the UK as we didn't have the crazy serial killer stories of the USA around hitchhiking. This one case completely put a stop to it. You never see hitchhikers now and people would be too scared to hitchhike and too scared to pick you up. I think society has also changed but the fact we had our own sick serial killer that got victims hitchhiking and this story told by the survivor was what really killed it off (if you pardon the pun).
