I wouldnt say he is from Englad he only said he lived there in middle school which is around 9 to 13 so while you may expect he can speak english and have a bit of the accent it sounded really strong like he just came from there yesterday. Thats the part that is unexpected.

it depends on traces of colonialism. So in India and Chinese because of their former British colonialism effects speak more British English while latter diaspora that deals more with American imperialism favor American English accents. They probably simply studied in different countries or lived in them.

That’s crazy... I had no idea Koreans viewed their college life as "easy". I had the perception it would be super intense because of how stressful their high school life is. Thinking about it its vice versa here in the U.S. The average American high school is fairly easy almost too laid back, then college life is a drastic change of insanity. Wow, great job guys!

lol I and a few friends had a backwards. Getting bombarded with so much work from school taking all the AP classes you can fit as well as having to get involved in more than enough extracurricular activities (such as having a job, volunteering every week, joining multiple clubs and honor societies, and more) was not easy. You had to do a lot to stand out above other applicants and to be considered for scholarships and grants. Also, my school was way over-prepared with their AP material. I found one of my AP classes covered like 3 college classes at the university I am in now. I would have much preferred a laid-back high school life than a laid-back college life. I mean, it's still a struggle now to graduate within my major with experience, but I still think high school was harder to this day.

Unravel I agree with you. My high school is more competitive than the average one, and it's stressful, with so many people in multiple ap classes and other extracurriculars. It always strikes me odd when I see Americans saying their high school life is easy.

I’m just entering college this fall so I can’t comment about that. I was part of a lot of things (Mock Trial, Robotics, Band, etc.) and took tons of AP classes and even college classes at a community college during high school. I had a pretty hectic high school life. I basically lived at school going there at around 6:30 AM (zero period) until around 8:30 PM (Mock Trial practice/ football games). At the end of the year, all the senior bandies were asked about their advice for the underclassmen and I specifically told the juniors at that time that “whoever told you senior year is a breeze is lying to you.” There were other seniors that agreed with me but there were some that said it was our fault that we took the hard way of senior year (jokingly of course). But I could see that some of them truly had a laid back high school life. I think it truly depends on the person. In American high schools, you have the choice to do something (join a club/take AP classes) or not to do so.

😂College life in America is like going from prison(high school) to straight hell!😂 We do have parties but that's if you're lucky enough to have one day free or you go to a party to eat free food😂 It may seem easy but im pretty sure many people in college have mental break down once a month.

I'm currently a third year university student in California. And yes, it's true that there are plenty of parties on campus but not everyone attends them. The huge parties are usually a frat/sorority thing in my opinion. But what's more important than the parties is the education. Is it hard to graduate? Yes, as a science major, a failing grade means being put on academic probation and possibly being kicked out of the major. Do we have more interactive learning? 50/50 because some classes are just the lecturer talking and the students listening. While some are VERY interactive and require the students to express their own personal opinion (we can also disagree with the professor). Regarding the discrimination against Asians...it's very uncommon only because my university is in Southern California and the majority of the students are Asian.

For people who are confused, korean HIGH SCHOOL is super tough because they also have to prepare for college entrance exam which is difficult and very competitive since everyone is competing to get good grades so they can enter top universities. However, once you get into the university, it's much more chill than the scary high school people hear about :)

Reno I suppose Korea is like Japan. University is not about learning advanced knowledge to prepare you for a job because that knowledge is learned on the job. University is about getting that certificate from a prestigious university so that you even HAVE a job especially a GOOD job. It also gets you connections that are invaluable for the future. There is little sense of specialization and coursework is very light and the main objective is to pass and get that university certificate.

Korean high schools are extremely hard because they also have to study for college entrance exam which is a VERY important exam because everyone is competing to get good grades so they can get into the top universities. However, when you go to college/university, the work load and also hours of studying is much less demanding. Hope this helps ^^

I think it's interesting how a lot of Koreans say that college is fun and they like to go out and play with their friends. While when I was in college was so stressed out that I barely had time to play with my friends. Also I found out what it feels like to be broke.

Yes, but also Korean high school is extremely stressful because they spend almost all of their time studying, once they reach college it is a lot easier because they dont have to worry about the exam

Alot of parties, yes because social events and campus life essentially revolves around this which is what deludes many freshmen, but many persons use the 3/4 years to build networks within their faculties and throughout the university, you'd be surprised just how connected your university might be as well as their alumni. Hard to graduate, I dont think so you just have to manage your time well and you should be fine. It really is the only time you get to 'find' yourself and figure out what you want to do for the rest of your life after making that transition from school to the working environment. This especially applies to small colleges. I go to a private women's college (Go Salem College!) and we have a very close relationship not only with the faculty, but with one another. The entire campus is like an extended family away from home and everyone generally knows a good portion of everyone who is on campus because we see each other so often. We're also able to organize unique events because of our relationship with the faculty. Although it could stand to be better, everyone on my campus knows that if they have a problem, they could go directly to the dean or a person of power here and have it handled. Some may even be very close to a first-name basis with the those people and plenty of professors here actually encourage you to call them by their name rather than their title, like Dr. whatever. We also have the type of relationship where we can band together and literally this has happened and will continue to happen, but we stand up to administration and we lay out rules for what we will and won't accept as far as living standards here and the way we're treated and such, both on-campus and within the community (we'll occasionally hold a protest (ex. we protested the HB2 Bill until our administration released a statement to make sure our campus stayed safe as well as within the community, so they're trying to make the town a safe haven for those affected by the Bill as well). We have a voice that demands to be heard and the faculty and administration on my campus really encourage it and are always open to hearing what change we want to see done. We call people out in a very quick second if they're in the wrong and they encourage it. As far as parties go, they're not that frequent. If anything, like someone said in the comments before, we're incredibly stressed, but we make it work because we know eventually we'll get our degree and we can go on to do what we really want. We do go midnight runs for fast food and waffles though! Drinking does occur, but most times unless someone else acquires it for you, you're not getting a drink unless you have ID to prove you're 21. I don't think drug use occurs on my campus that much; I hear that more about the much larger private university up the street from us (which we go to their parties too).

Rainbow Monkeyz Exactly, I can't imagine not making connections though its not on purpose but more the lifestyle. Your college friends tend to be your first adult friends and the people you know and hang out with for the rest of your life outside of family and maybe work friends down the line. Regarding the difficulty of graduating, it sounds like that's more in relation to Korean universities. Maybe we have more requirements or something like that. If their bar is set so low a lot could look difficult if its above that standard.

Maybe ask Koreans what they think of other western regions such as the UK or wider Europe. A lot of them tend to see the west as mainly America so it would be interesting to see their opinions of other western regions and perhaps their views on westerns that come to study/live in Korea ^-^.

I live in California, and went through high school and college here. I can say for a fact that that two of the thoughts expressed in the video, expensive, and hard are completely true. In America all schooling through high school is free however college will be the most expensive thing you will ever do after. It seems stupid that you can go through high school without debt, but then deciding to continue learning for 2 - 8 more years will practically bankrupt you. Hopefully in the future we, Americans will figure out that college should be free for everyone. This is especially needed since high school diplomas won't get you a job anymore. The one thing I think the Korean students got wrong was the idea we party, and drink a lot as college students. 21 years old is the legal age to drink here in the U.S.A, and that doesn't mean students don't drink. Movies, and TV have perpetuated this idea the college kids just party all night, but that's not really the case. I would bet Korean college students probably drink more that American ones do. I enjoyed the video, keep up the good work.

To briefly answer the perceptions in this video: College in America IS hard. Most people end up having a mental break down in college, the stress is insane. As for the debates, In a lot of the classes you will experience having class debates, many teachers hate having students memorize material and perfer them to think for themselves (opposite in korea from what i heard) so we do have a lot debates in class. Fun fact: you can always disagree with a teacher, its not uncommon for a student to do that, in fact most teachers like it when studens do that bc it shows that they are thinking. But even though we do have debates there are still a lot of classes that are just strictly lectures, so it depends on the teacher. Also, i didnt understand the meaning of flexible studying?? do they think we study whenever we want? do they not know we have due dates and deadlines as well?? aside from that in college you will have a TON of group projects, its almost insane how many group projects you have to do. So if you don't like meeting random people, getting their phones numbers and meeting up with them at 7pm at night because that's the only time everyone can meet, college in america may not be for you. Im not sure if this is something that korea does but also have a lot of in class presentations. To give you a personal example, i am a business major and this tue i have to make a presentation to the class and teacher as to why xxx company should invest in the company of my choice (The teacher plays the role of xxx company). Anyways, the presentation has to be 30min and the last 10min is for questions or concerns that may be asked from the class or the teacher. There are 2 presentstions per day and the two that present i guess you can say are competitors because at the end of class the students will vote on which presentstion was better. It's pretty cut throat.

Unnati Agrawal Each business major has a few classes they take that distinguish them. I also took business but business administration. Most business majors wont be able to tell you the difference in each business major since they have similar basics but what is always most helpful is looking at colleges you want to go to, check all classes in the different business degrees you are interested in. I finished my associates but am changing to forensic science. But expect learning business calculas, taking 2 accounting classes (unless you're an accounting major), take a statistics or economics class, and a business computer class to teach you how to use popular computer applications for business purposes, and a speech class. My school offered 3 different speech classes but the easiest, most general one was not something business majors could take, since its business after all and you need to deliver speech well. But other than those basics, the classes for other business major vary a bit.

Yes, it is true that graduating from American universities can be a challenge, especially if you are studying in the STEM areas (science, technology, engineering and math). The anxiety for exams is ridiculous; any time exams are around, you will notice that the library is jam packed with students studying. It is common for students to prioritize studying over other things like hygiene and health. My friends and I (and any other students) can all say that we have gone a week without showering during finals week. Also, be prepared to lose tons of sleep in college; on average, I only get 4 to 5 hours of sleep per day. It gets worse the closer you are to graduation. So much is expected of students to appeal to employers, so the pressure continues to build up when it is almost necessary that you should be active in other organizations or programs (volunteering, research, internships, etc.), and the cherry on the top is when you have to work to put yourself through school. I admit, as tough as it is, college is fun. You learn many things, whether is academic, social or personal skills. Universities will make you an incredibly responsible individual and you will learn many life lessons. Good luck to anyone entering college! You will make a great amount of memories, the bad and the good :)

Really curious about something. I came to know about Korea and its culture through Kpop and k dramas, so called the "Hallyu wave", and I personally know people who went/are in Korea to study/work/visit because of this reason. But sadly, I read that not many of the general public encourage Kpop or they look down upon idols in general. Though imo (its my sole opinion) Kpop kinda plays a tiny role in getting people to learn more about Korea and its culture and also learn the language, and also makes one to visit it. So I'm curious what the present youth think of it. Do they also shun it like the older generation? Or do they see it as something positive? P.S - sorry if I'm not making sense.

A_Controversial_Cat A_Controversial_Cat I am Korean American but I have lived in Korea when I was younger and the majority of my family is in Korea. Koreans like the fact that people all over the world can appreciate the Korean culture through media such as music and tv. However, like AjJellyBean has said, a lot of Koreans in their 20s don't listen to Kpop but more of indie/coffee house music while Kpop is usually listened by the younger audience. Koreans like this cultural influence that the media plays but there is a strong homogeneity in Korea - so they don't appreciate too much with international people trying to actually live in Korea/become Korean because for Koreans, if you're not biologically Korean, you'll never be considered Korean (you're always the outsider).

I'm graduating this May with a bachelors degree in Pure Mathematics. If you are a STEM major, then college is very hard! I know so many people who had to switch from a Biology or Math major because the simply could not pass the classes. The course load is also ridiculous especially if you want to finish in four years. My current year (4th year), I've had to take 6 math classes. All of which graduate students also take. I literally have 3 assignments due every week where each takes an average 10 hours. As well as 3 exams and a final in each class. It is easy to drown in the work. As for parties, I've been to a few. I don't really care for them. Sororities and fraternities party the most though. When I have time, I normally like to spend time with friends and go out to eat or hang out at the apartment or dorm and chill.

Gosh man! This series seems to be super duper awesome. Its actually in a way really awesome to get to know different opinion of students well the habits of all college students around the world are so similar. Its a unique way of creating more awareness.

I never thought that Korean universities are easy to graduate from, but looking from experience studying in Korea for a semester it was all about going out with friends and drinking and norebang. It is hard to graduate from an American university because the high standards when it comes to graduating, they basically pointed out good points with having good classroom discussions. I went to school in nursing and took me 7 yrs just to graduate, it was a hustle and a lot of sacrifices like my social life, but worth it in the end. Its also EXPENSIVE! especially going to an IV league school like Harvard, Yale or Stanford, or any private universities. But one of the best thing about going to college here in America are the scholarships to help pay for school :)

Actually, top schools are usually the least expensive because they have such large endowments that they put towards financial aid. Schools with small endowments often don't give good scholarships. Yale is 100% needs based, and if you have a household income below $100k, then your tuition is free. Same with most top schools. Also, Stanford isn't in the Ivy League haha, although it's a top school

Love this new content. I laughed when they said a lot of parties. We can hardly attend parties because of studies and trying to meet our deadlines. The struggle is REAL~ There's like no time to party unless you plan ahead, but even with planning, it doesnt go through. It's so interesting learning a tad bit about the universities in Korea. Thanks for doing this video~~~ Love it!!!

This is a really cool idea, you guys- letting other people have a real, non-staged (is that a word?) sneak peek inside Korean lifestyle. I'm really happy you're doing this, as are many other K-pop fans, I'm sure!😉

I think it is really interesting that the people you interviewed described their college experience as easy. In the US I think your experience depends on your major but I would say that the majority of majors are rigorous. When I was in college I had to spend so many hours studying and had many nights where I stayed up until 3 in the morning. I also had to volunteer or have an internship, work and of course attend my classes. So hard D:

i think i am kinda misunderstood about the education in korea ! a week before only i saw a video placing korea on 5th postion for world's best education! and here they are saying that they dont have to work hard for their graduation! its confusing!

The stereotypes about American universities are really spot on! Genuinely surprised that Korean universities aren't hard to graduate since the education system leading up to it seems so intense compared to American high schools. LOVE THIS GUYS! Keep it up

i really enjoy content like this where you guys talk about college life or interview college students. i’m in college now so i like learning about what college is like in other countries. i think we have the same problem in my country where it is easier to get a degree in four years because most students just hang out and drink and their final gpa isn’t that great but they still graduate. some even just flunk or give up even though (to me at least) it’s not that hard. anyways thanks for the amazing content

I know they're not that original and the sample size of the students doing the interviews on campus is obviously small but I'd love to see more and hear what they think of other places besides US because our DucKs are all over the globe. Well, they're not wrong, but of course it's exaggerated. You're lucky to have free time to party, and it's mostly younger people going to house parties since they can't go to bars. Being in my fourth year at Purdue I hardly find any time to see my friends on weekends, which is sad but... yay, I'm graduating soon!

I can't wait to see what the university life is like in my country, which is Finland. I'm going to graduate (if I pass the final exams) high school in 2019 and apply for a university. I'll come back to this video then and leave a comment about our university life, who knows if I'm going to recommend Finland as an option for you😎

This was interesting. Great video! I like watching interviews from other students, personally. I am currently a senior in a Florida college (graduating in 15 days... woot!) and I just wanted to comment on a few of the opinions mentioned. The one guy who said that he wishes his University had smaller classes was totally me when I was looking for a college. I ended up going to a medium-sized college that has smaller classes because smaller classes promote more learning and just more talking with the professor and other students in general. I am an English (Literature) major and about 75% of my classes were discussion based (where we move the desks into a circle and basically just talk with the professor about what we read and our analysis on the reading). A comment below said American students even have the opportunity to disagree with their professors (which is very true... and also very fun (: Also, I personally have never been to any "crazy" college party... those are mainly for super social butterflies or the freshmen who aren't exactly concerned about their grades... yet lol. Most people don't actually have time to party and are super stressed. I found it hard to make friends at all because everyone was so busy and/or stressed to do anything. College here is pretty hard, I agree. Or maybe that's just me. Or maybe because high school is such a breeze. Anyways, this is getting very long and I have a lot of papers to write that I shouldn't be procrastinating on (HELP ME....) but I just wanted to comment my personal experience in an American college. I find it interesting how different college life is between Americans and many others. Cool video! Maybe you could continue this sort of student series and ask high school or college students what they would try to change in their schooling experience if they could? Dunno if that's interesting enough but it's all I could think of at the moment.

Out of curiosity !! Can you ask Korean college students on their view on drugs? College students in different countries are usually exposed to drugs like weed, hash and a few more.

we have much curiousity toward drug cause we do not see any drugs in Korea(some do illegally, of course). younger generation in Korea love hip-hop so all drug lyrics in American hip-hop music make us more curious about it.

I really like this idea of doing interviews! College life in America really isn't (well in my school) about parties. In fact it happens so rarely, everyone else is studying or working. So stressful.
