Speaker 1: So we're going to be talking about bunny toys today.
Speaker 2: Okay.
Speaker 1: . . . and I brought some of my favorite, and I see you've brought some of your favorites.
Speaker 2: Yes, I did.
Speaker 1: And I brought my favorite toy at home, Bean, my personal little . . .
Speaker 2: Bean, being such a cutie pie, Netherland Dwarf.
Speaker 1: Netherland Dwarf, looks like a wild rabbit, but he's not, and we'll talk about that later.
Speaker 2: Okay.
Speaker 1: So what do you do for toys?
Speaker 2: All right, this is something, well, first of all, my rabbit is obsessed with these little beachcomber straw hats, you just plop it on the floor and they'll chew it. Here's one that she's not quite finished with here, but sometimes it's just completely gone, and they just like to chew on it.
Speaker 1: Will she go through the entire thing?
Speaker 2: The entire thing, yeah.
Speaker 1: So completely disappear.
Speaker 2: But you want to make sure it's not treated, right?
Speaker 1: Yeah, if you can, with any straw toys. Some imports have bug sprays on them, or other kinds of little chemicals that you might want to avoid, and it's best to try to find untreated ones. Although people have told me that they have bought the sprayed ones because of a regulation importing into the U.S., that they have to be sprayed with no ill-effects on the rabbits. I try to find untreated ones myself, just to be safe.
Speaker 2: Okay. Now here's one that I like to make at home. What you need is you just need a toilet paper tube, a pair of scissors, and you're going to fringe the edges, because this gives them a little, what do you call it, like not resistance.
Speaker 1: It gives them a little play, there's a little play in cardboard that way so it's not quite so stiff.
Speaker 2: Right.
Speaker 1: So that they can access what it's going to go into it a little more easily. I'm guessing you're going to stuff it the way we do.
Speaker 2: Right, and then you kind of do the edges like this. See, this is fun, this is fun, and then you just fill it with your favorite hay, it can be a treat hay, you want to use like a herb hay.
Speaker 1: This is Timothy Hay here, you don't have to use Timothy Hay, but any grass hay is a good alternative, Timothy is a grass hay.
Speaker 2: A little dynamite stick, see? And then you just throw that around, and I mean hay will go all over your apartment, but, you know, if you love your rabbit, you don't really care, and then you just play. I mean, it's really a lot of fun, you want to play with that (?).
Speaker 1: And you can use paper towel rolls too if you want it longer.
Speaker 2: Yep, paper towels, right. That's the other thing . . .
Speaker 1: We have here a slinky, which is great, a lot of rabbits love to grab the end of a slinky and toss it around. One thing you want to be really careful about, and this is a good rabbit to show it with, this size slinky and this size rabbit could be a bad combination, and that's why we're showing this. A smaller slinky is better for a smaller rabbit, because this size rabbit can get its head into this slinky. For many rabbits that won't matter, but some rabbits will panic when they get their head into a slinky, and they don't back out. So you want to be careful about the size, and make it appropriate to the size of the rabbit.
Speaker 2: And what about metal versus just plastic ones?
Speaker 1: I like plastic ones myself.
Speaker 2: Okay.
Speaker 1: I know some people have used metal ones, but I like plastic ones, they're much more visible to me on the floor so that I don't step on them when a rabbit's on the floor playing with them.
Speaker 2: Also oatmeal, sometimes people take out the sides of the oatmeal, you know, canisters . . .
Speaker 1: Yeah.
Speaker 2: . . . and your rabbit can get stuck in that too, so.
Speaker 1: Yeah, any cani

The toilet paper roll toy actually really worked for my bunny! I bought her two other toys from petsmart and she payed no attention to them. I give her the roll and she throws it all over the place, takes a break, and then goes back to playing around with it. Thanks for the suggestion!

My bunny died of mixamatosis over 2 years ago he was called fluffy and he was really smart he managed to open his cage from the inside and escape and when the ramp to the second floor of his hutch fell down he somehow used leverage or something and propped it up against a toy castle and fixed the ramp

my bunny had a straw ball and she ate it in 5 seconds flat she didn't play with it
Ahh, thankyou so much this really helped! I used too have a rabbit when I was much younger and it's annoying to think I never gave it any of these things! I'm getting another this Monday and I'm sure this will have helped so much and the rabbit will be much happier!! :)
I think the type of toy is the bunny favorite, is just based on it's own preference. Once you get to know your bun you will know what toy's he/she prefers!

Our rabbit, Billy Loves his toys! He plays with cats toys (jingle balls) & bird toys. He tosses them into an empty glass bowl in his cage or across the floor during play time. He also throws them in his empty dish when he needs more food! Haha. I also give him opened plastic Easter eggs. He tosses those around as well. But I love your ideas, thank you! Billy nudges me with his nose when he wants loves! He's a 4 lb sweetie!

My little one loved her straw rabbit toss which she would flip violently over her head! She also enjoyed a ring with toys attached like a baby rattle that she also liked to fling across the cage. Playful and imaginative she would often flip her food bowl and roll it across the floor, too.

What I do for my rabbit Mo - a four month old mini Rex- is use a box and Timothy hay. The box he came home in was a card board box with a bunch of holes in it and I decided to put the box in his cage for secondary shelter. Anyways, I get some of his hay and put it through the holes in the box and he pulls it out
"(hay will go everywhere)...but when you love your rabbit you don't really care" defines my entire lifestyle.
I am going to get a rabbit so I wanted to watch this to see the toys rabbits like so thank you for making this video

My bunny's favorite ever toys are old towels and fabric scaps, he'll drag them around and chew and dig at them with his paws, he'll nest in them and hide under them, it's a world of fun!

My rabbit HATES all cylinder tubes 😂 I've bought him 2 different cardboard ones, 1 of which he never even went near. And the other one he only chewed on, and never went through. I recently purchased one of those tubes made for bigger cats, to see how he likes the different material + much bigger size. Fingers crossed ^_^

My bunny is young, don't know how young though, got her from petland a few weeks ago as an early birthday present, I named her Caramel, and she throws her chew toy around, she throws it into her water bowl(she also has a water bottle) and her water turns green😹

Trainer Mika Yuzawa my bunny has his water in a heavy coffee cup! never spilled it over. he is smart and comical. he has put his plastic food dish on top of his water cup.

When we had a rabbit we gave her a smaller size beach ball, it was just slightly taller than she was, she loved to push it all over the floor. It sure kept her busy. =)
I Like these ladies. They remind me of over-protective moms from opposite ends of the neighborhood that are in constant competition, but pretend to be best friends. ahh white people.

I have a dentally healthy bun who hates chewing hard wood. For the longest time we thought he didn't like to chew wood... until we tried green twigs. He LOVES chewing those.

i had a Netherland dwarf rabbit, it had free roam of the garden and house, it used to scare away the cats when they came in an she ate everything from toast to tv remotes, she lived to 13, i miss my ball of fluff
How come this Netherlands Dwarf looks so different from other ones? And it also seems larger than the norm.

The lady most likely got it from a pet store. Pet stores lie and say that they are a purebred Netherland dwarf or they never tell you that they are a mixed breed. But people often think they are getting a Netherland dwarf purebred then about a year later it's bigger than what it should be, so they release it in the wild cause it's not what they wanted. All because of uneducated people, and lying pet stores.

ShadowTheDemonWolf77 yes I think so. my fluppy is a holland lop, his appearance is very obviously signatured. when I saw other ppl declared their bunnies were holland lop, I felt weird as they looked totally different with colors, sizes and hair.

I have a Netherland dwarf and she’s about two thirds of that size if not less. Bean is definitely a mixiepoo. Based on what the ears look like I’d say he’s a meat mix

The bunny can be a pure breed but not have the Dwarf gene which make them small.
When u said u got wood for your rabbit, can u get wood from a tree in your back, or front yard?
my rabbits favourite toy is a dumbbell shaped baby rattle with 3 rings on it , or his wooden puzzle when i hde food under the pieces

My rabbit LOVES feather cat toys (without catnip). I dangle it and he will run in circles with it, stand up on his hind legs and bat at it, and just keep himself entertained with it for hours!

at what age did your rabbit start to be interested in toys?
I have a question. I have a female and male holland lop bunnies. they are about 5 mos old. I am getting my male neutered tomorrow. After that can I put him right back in with the female or does he need to be separated for awhile while healing? Its very important to keep them on a regular pellet diet. The so called fancy foods with different color things in there are very unhealthy food. High in sugar and its basically junk. Google the best rabbit pellet its usually oxbow brand or a simple 16 % protein 20 to 25 % fiber. Good luck
So should I not freak out when they chew on plastic and cardboard? Cuz i always take it away thinking it'll make them sick if they eat it.

My Netherlands dwarf looks just like yours (but black) and she got disqualified because they said her nose was to far outwards and her ears were to long 😕
How does the rabbit sit still.
I tried the plastic keys with my last bunny and he destroyed them. Chewed right through the pladtic ring. With the bunny I have now...which is pretty high strung compared to my last one...he chews everything. Every once in a while, I buy him one of those wicker balls like they show in the video and it keeps him entertained all day.

How small can a slinky (or something) be? Because I have a little one and my rabbit is really little too, but I don't want him to eat it or something.
I have a question. So, I give my bunny lots of toys, but he just doesn’t want to chew them. He’s happy and healthy, but he just doesn’t like chewing things. I don’t want him to be bored, what should I do?
I have some aluminum metallic stuff on the floor and my bunny loves to play with that... If I leave out things like carton or straw it doesn't really care for them unless he's hungry and his food bowl is empty then he'll start to chew on that stuff. But for what seems like "playing" he likes the metal.
