Thank u for this video I'm a boutique I guess...lol I work on a military base and have my 30 snakes that we breed at home we mainly do it to pay for rats for our collection and for the kids they love to see the eggs and all that. We def breed for what we want and like, we try not to do it for what's popular but for what people can afford but still get a cool snake. I agree totally with what u are saying man great video🤘🐍👹

Matt I thank you for the shout out!! This video is great it really made me think about who I am. I launched scales and tails of chilhowee as a more business front in 2020. My goal is to breed projects I want 1st, but breed also to get people into the hobby who can't afford 1000 dollar snakes. I've taken some criticism for the projects I do but, I know I've moved a lot of snakes and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. I've learned a lot from you and appreciate what you do!!

Great video! I am currently boutique. Last year was my first year, and bred 6 females. This year I'm looking at about 12 females. I'd like to think about more volume in the future, and have lots of grow outs, but not sure how much more I can handle time-wise. Would love to set myself up to not have to work a corporate job the rest of my life, but also don't want to manage people. This gave me a lot to think about.

Boutique here. Invested in some really cool things. It’s excited to breed for what I want.

How do you do tax structure. Can I buy snakes and count them as business start up cost?

That is a question for your tax guy. If you don't have one be careful. If claiming a business, at some point you have too show profit or actual profit attempts, or they go back and nail ya on all the past deductions because it is just a hobby. I am not a tax professional.

What are the parameters for boutique, volume and large scale? Like is boutique 5,15 or 50 clutches?

I think his point was if you do it as a hobby in your house then you're boutique. If you cannot fit your whole collection in your house and you rent a building to run your business but your the one still handling the snakes and its a full time job, then you're volume.

@@jacobflora7882 so maybe the wording is incorrect. Many breeders call themselves "boutique" breeders and do this full time. Ozzy for instance calls himself a boutique breeder and he's a multi millionaire. Maybe just hobbyist, volume and large scale is more appropriate?

Perhaps, but I think his message is still valid for guys like me (I have 5 pythons and breed my own rats and considering breeding my pythons). I love the idea of doing what I love and being able to survive off it. Not get rich, but pay the bills and feed my family. I get up at 3am to work in a factory for 12 hrs. It's getting old. Lol

@@jacobflora7882 Bro I hear you loud and clear. Worked in food manufacturing for 12 years. I left that horrible job in Dec of 2021 and now breed ball pythons full time. You don't have to have 100 clutches to make decent money at this. I did 24 clutches last year and made more than the average American makes at their job. Smart purchasing, smart pairings and hard work will get you where you want to be.

I want to be the volume breeder. As of now I have 1.0 albino pied to breed with 0.1 albino het pied, 0.1 pied het albino, 0.1 visual albino pied these guys I'm using to reach the pet owners, the kind of snakes that wows even the people that don't know why they're talking about. The "lower end" Then I have 1.0 Pastel DG to breed with 0.1 pastel het dg het hypo and 0.1 het dg het hypo. These guys are going to get my foot into the door to produce snake that will attract other breeders and to work my way into "higher end" snakes. Man I can't wait to get to a point to join your discord to pick your discord family brain 😆. But have to get this thing up and running before I have monthly expenses.

also, if you are in that just for the money, you will likely fail. It takes more than love of money.
