VW was a really cool deck with what it did and how even lost to a friend with 5 cards left in deck for like 5 turns just keep recyling resources with chuche

I never realised until now how much VW's arc in the TCG mirrors Phantom Knights, as both relied on a super broken boss monster that pretty much acted as a win condition against any deck that needed to have monsters on the field (so 99.9% of them), then still saw some play after they were banned, but never returned to their future glory.

Did you even played Pk? They could put 5 desruptions turn 1 not to mention the Brave token engine was busted in Pk. Even after the bann of Rhongo.

@Harold Necmann 3+ materials: Unaffected by all card effects. 4+ materials: You can't summon, period. So you can't even Kaiju it. 5 mats: Once per turn, wipe the opponent's board.

Shame the new rank 9 from CYAC is terrible, unless they add a new gate that's really good there's nothing to really do with it

The new Generaider is better and that says a lot. Unless they have another wave of support their best hope is more generic synchros and xyzs they can use or fall into their restrictions.

@@dropsies2390 i guess that's fair, I just think of stratos as "oh, a card effect search" and not much else. FBG is good in the deck to dump the continuous spell.

I played Brave VW for awhile and the reason I stopped is because I kept bricking, that was its biggest weakness. Seeing 2 LaoLao, ChuChe and no other extenders in hand was a death sentence for the game

It's a rank 9 deck that has no good rank 9's to go into. VFD gets unbanned, VW immediately becomes a tiered meta deck again.

@@donavandavis7710 It was already falling off before tear and kash. Any new forms of Removal hurt the deck due to the need to target and it already had consistency issues.

"Put Dante in a Virual World deck" Somewhere Farfa is shedding a tear over the concept of Burning Abyss-Virtual World. Don't know if it's because it is heresy, or because i could never be.

VW was still a good deck in SS meta because every deck except branded, still struggled against shenshen. What really killed it was the lack of consistency with Tear and Spright not caring about shenshen. They could use another spell that helps with consistency by drawing 2 then discarding a VW card and then they really need another 2 main deck monsters that help extend and create a larger end board.

Power Creep and the deck loses to itself. Its a shame because I like how the deck can take advantage of XYZ and synchro monsters, but the reality is it never had much of a high ceiling after VFD ban. The sad thing is that it only felt like a short while ago when the archetype was still fresh...

This deck had a leg to stand on in limited examples of the current series in its early box sets with some of the Gates, Main Deck Monsters and Synchro. In MD this got off to a strong start because the first format had VFD "Calamities" in it. That's like a Shock Master level boss which can make things pretty unfun, with the best R9nk tools in VW.

So basically, they good start it had in master duel was due to the same reasons as in the tcg. No surprise there

As someone who plays a VW deck, I've recently started winning games with it. It's not AWFUL, just needs help with getting to the win conditions

Came back to Yu-Gi-Oh recently and these kind of videos really help to understand how things have been going recently with modern yugi...

If virtual world had literally one more good monster name that goes plus it would become tier 1 instantly. Or a mathmech sigma, then it would be insane

The deck was VFD turbo since day 1. Once that got banned the only thing the deck had going for it was that hand loop, not sure how consistent that combo was but it seems not enough to keep the deck relevant.

The handloop did not even show up much competitively. People were going for ultimaya to summon crystal wing along with mud dragon to make Dragoon or caliga.

No . After VFD was banned, the plays were to turbo cristal wing and Dragoon with a live chuche and maybe a shenshen. You could also play Caliga instead of Dragoon

What about a kind of series around the most problematic formats and how they could have been fixed with different hits on the banlist (even unbanning stuff) with some test duels?

For meta contention, They need another main deck with the generic effect for more consistency maybe with a level manipulation effect. a good lvl/ rank 9 boss (not the one we just got) I think maybe a towers but something way more unique would be nice. And maybe another way to get chuche face up on the field to start plays.

My favorite archetype of all time. When I was trying to get back into Yugioh, I mostly ran this deck without VFD. Even without that big boss monster, there are so many other great 3/6/9 ED monsters that it felt like this deck could fight through any situation. It sucks that the support for the archetype is practically non-existant.

Brave VW still is pretty good. Free access to Level 10 Synchros is pretty nice.

This was actually my first deck I ever learned. I started playing on MD right after it dropped and just slammed my head against the ranked wall until I learned it inside and out, VFD included

i played vw in master duel. It felt like it was a combo deck but the combos were very fluid. Its biggest flaw even with vfd was that it was a 2-card starter combo deck. You needed 2 names in hand to even start comboing. Granted it became a 1 card combo deck when cupid ptich released with the punk cards. Then it got nerfed again with vfd ban and the halq ban as well. Still i love the deck if the combo got interupted it had other lines it could do to still get to vfd/chuche. It was one of the few decks that was able to play around eldlich with both io and skill drain flipped up. It had a great resource loop with nyan-nyan able to cycle back face down banished cards back into the deck. The fact that the deck still had gas after the first couple turns was great.

Swordsoul is nearly just same thing; u actually need those 2 cards in your first starting hand and hopefully doesn't get handtrapped

the deck was honestly pretty nice right before the september 2022 banlist, e -tele was a 1 card punk combo into winda + halq + chuche.

I'd love to see the two other decks VW competed against, Drytron and Tribridgade, on this series soon

I was doing well with the deck pre tear format. Its only problem was consistency. But with good hands it can break boards in a variety of ways.

VW was a deck that I loved brewing for. VFD, synchro combo, and a pile version all gave me a ton of wins and a ton of satisfaction playing. Really felt like I was playing Yugioh when I played the deck. VW's inherent weakness of bricking plus the rank/synchro pool for 6/9 not being that great really sets it back. There are only 3 (?) rank 6 monsters with quick effects that may be worth playing (Beatrice, Wollow, and Photon Strike Bounzer). The rank 9s leave a lot to be desired. In a more fair format that stuff is great but currently it just doesn't do enough.

The rank 6 pool is actually insane. Beatrice, Ptolemy, and Pailark are all just insane combo pieces that--at least together--read "do whatever you want". Synchro at 6 also lets you go into some insane things like VW summoning Mirrorjade or becoming a Zombie World deck. You can pretty much sideboard anything to smoke your opponent. Spell deck? Spell canceller. Extra deck? Scythe. VFD lines were great because they were resource efficient and--in the event that they cracked VFD--you had a lot more recursion from Shenshen, unused 6s and 9s that clean up the board state (Coral, Stardust, Vermillion, Croco) I feel that the biggest issue with VW is, as you said, its brickiness. VW gets to do whatever it wants, but it _needs_ two VW names to do it. In addition, it just folds to a lot of interaction if they have to go second. If they pop your target after you reveal a VW, you're now down a monster and searcher. Abyss Dweller and related GY hate smoke half your lines. Addendum: Also, it's brickiness led to another thing. It requires a _large_ portion of your deck. That means you can't really run engines outside of adventure. Spyral suffers from a similar fate. They get to do whatever they want with links, but don't have the consistency against current deck lists.

'Virtual world isnt that complicalted of a deck to play'. I call bs, I played it in the yugioh master duel on steam for a while and I needed a freaking document open with flowcharts of everything I had to do depending on my hand so I don't mess up summoning the big boss dragon that negates all summoning of a specific type on turn , because of how complicated the combos were. All this in a digital version of the game where it automatically does the right thing/doesn't let you do illegal moves, where your opponent doesnt have th eburden of SOMEHOW keeping track of what you were doing and if what you did was legal, with an open spreadsheet at all times, and I still ran out of time trying to do my turn after 40 hours of practice in the game with the deck. This shit was ridiculous. Idk how people find modern yugioh fun anymore sadly, meta is on crack.

November 2023 called: WE'RE SO BACK.

Funnily enough, VW is still absolutely playable and has recent tops, it still only needs one good rank 9 worth investing in to see tiered play. Another gate would be great, and any support that would help with consistency would be incredible. Once the deck gets going, nothing short of a shifter stops it and you can fit so many jank techs into it that it's crazy. I myself have added penguin soldier, and ghoti, along with the Full-Armored XYZ package, I've also seen beatrice with a tear name and shaddoll beast to make Winda, P.U.N.K fixes a lot of consistency issues at the cost of time rules and hand size. The deck is so flexible and still only just short of being tiered. It's just waiting for a big enough payoff.

Needs better starter, including monster with a different special summoning mechanic. Ans they need better level and rank 3-6-9 from the extra deck

When master duel came out I heavily focused on grind game with Eldlich and I heavily loved the grind game, however it does me no good if all my grave yard cards are banished and I have no way to return them. It is a good meta deck.

My favorite deck! I play them with Bystials now They are good against some decks like floowandereeze, you can summon Final Sigma very easy against them and they cant get rid of him

It depended way too much on VFD, plus 1/3 of hands are unplayable bricks.

interesting archetype, never saw too much activity with this archetype though.

i hope they release a new "virtual world gate" card as a field spell that can protect your other face-up virtual world gate spells/traps kinda like how sky iris helps pendulums protect their scale.

VW's biggest problem is that it was fair. Every play they made was easy to answer with commonly played tools, the best decks generally do one or more incredibly unfair things whether it be floodgating the opponent, playing on the opponents turn, making a boss monster that's next to Impossible to out or even something simple like having access to cards it shouldn't. VW lost VFD, and realistically it doesnt do anything except make 9's and all the best 9's do better in their own decks.

I’ve played VW since release, and it’s hands down one of my favourite decks of all time. I’ve stopped playing YGO competitively now but I’ve still kept my top 5 decks I enjoy. VW still do relatively well depending on how they are piloted in a game. Edit: Konami need to take a break from making new archetypes, and need to support preexisting ones like Myutants, VW, Phantom knights ECT. YGO hasn’t been in a good way since BODE released.

VW has access to all the 3/6/9 synchros and xyzs, Shenshen is a game winner in specific match ups, all main deck monsters foolish to then use cards sent to the gy as a resource and they have a searchable drident in the form of chuche. They have the tools, versatility and a good gimmick to make use of, the problem IS the consistency. The deck feels incomplete. Missing 4th gate, more s/t and main deck monsters and maybe 1 more archetype synchro to abuse like a reverse shenshen that banishes when a card is sent from anywhere but the field

The only way I can see All Calamities to ever get out is it would have to be nerf to the ground. Basically give the Chaos Dragon Envoy of the End sort of nerf treatment as if they have to.

Yeah, banning True King of All Calamities completely wiped them off the MD radar.

vfd ban desires to 1 when teleport went to 3 general powercreep prevelence of 15+ ht's due to adventure engine omni-negate causing heavy increases in ht's shenshen not saying all cards in your opponents possession are banished instead of just field (thus granting immunity to ignorant uncounterable cards like droplet) the deck bricking on itself at least VW is the first archetype in the modern game to not be fucked by vjump promo's not being imported until oh you know, the end of a master rule for example. shoutouts to master duel to have 2/2 rite enchantress with gryphon rider, vw and VFD which no formats ever had outside of md.

I've been playing VW For nearly 2 years and I am sad to admit that it is only getting weaker but playing its variants would make it very fun like Zombie VW or Swordsoul VW but the lack of consistency is A HUGE PROBLEM. Great video Guys keep'em coming.

Punk completely power crept the whole thing. VW in comparison has too much heavy restrictions (both their lock and the huge space you need to run the engine) while doing the same thing but worse.

Probably ? They're not really affected by the Bystials so they would be playable. But VFD is really not a healthy card they need better mill targets, a new gate and better extra deck monsters

hehehe i just built vw for fun actually i put navy dragon mech as there isnt a once per turn on the card at all and whenever its special summoned you get to target negate face up cards up to the number of tuners in grave so i like using it to make final sigma, then bring it back with cloudcastle to get even more negates, then the level 9 i personally run is laevetein, generaider boss of shadows that goes into jormungandr

I play vw using dragoon in replace for vfd and for the fusion I use muddy mud dragon along with Tolkien the typical end board is dragoon and crystal wing and on some occasions I can bring out final stigma also

What about expanding on the two mechanical themes of "all card types matter" and "the number 3"? Give them a link-3 and a link-6. Link-3 has some protection or board-builder effect, and maybe it can use Gate spells and traps as material (like The Weather does) so there's more hands that won't brick. Link-6 breaks down one final barrier: It makes the Level, Rank, and Link ratings of VW monsters interchangeable for the purpose of summoning other VW monsters (and let you count the XYZ and Link ones as Tuners, like Harpies do). Sprights have done the same, Gigantic can overlay Link-2 as Level-2, it's not unprecedented. After that... Maybe even go to level/rank 12 for a boss monster, that's a multiple of 3 as well even if they haven't risen that high yet. Maybe let you use materials of XYZ monsters as Synchro and Link materials, the way Drytron do for Ritual tributes.

Virtual World i think have a lot of potential, just like Tri-Brigade. What this deck lacking is good boss monsters to go into, again much like the Tri-Brigade. But the deck mechanic itself is actually kinda broken because it allows you to spam your board with high level monsters. But yeah, that potential wasn't enough for today's meta if the said potential didn't facilitated with good boss monsters for the endboard, it's like you use a very very high quality fuel in a Ford Model T engine. I honestly hope there's some good future direct and/or indirect support for this deck because this archetype is really good as an engine.

The deck needs a new Gate with a Tenki-style effect and it's an immediate game changer. A one card starter would immediately rocket the deck to Tier 2 status

VW actually has a lot of synergy in a 60 card pile with ishizu tear. The mills make vw a lot stronger and the vw cards let you end on Beatrice and wollow which are extremely strong to have access to in tear.

The deck makes level and Rank 9s, 3 and 6 are solid, but don't really establish an end board, and there still are no really good Rank 9s. VFD was that, but it was also extremely toxic.

4:37 Me who played in a tournament with sly Strikers and went up against virtual world that summoned VFD on me, but I still won and went undefeated in that same tournament. Ya idk what that's like 🤣

VW was never a consistent deck. It's like at least a 30% brick rate, no matter what the version you are playing. Add to that the fact that everything they used as engine or end boards outside of their archetype got banned. VFD is the biggest offender, but they also got a boost with PUNK because the Dragon Drive can search Lulu, but with Halq banned you were stuck with the PUNK pieces and needed the zones. It died because it stopped being a brickfest unfair deck that opened well and basically ftkd, and is now a fair deck that bricks half the time

Fun fact I pulled a vfd a few days ago on TikTok….. everyone in the comments was pissed af saying how much they hated that card 🤣🤣🤣

Tested, you could make a board with chuche+new generaider boss monster but nothing else with consistence, not worth at all

1. Its bricky and gets out of ressources real fast since the best GY effects require you to discard. 2. No more Virtual world Dragon (aka VFD), meaning that the end board became much worse. 3. The ceiling became lower the more external pieces began getting hit (like Snow getting banned), ending on a Crystal wing + Shenshen and Chuche was defo not enough 4. Power creep. Konami just kept releasing stronger things that just did what VW aimed to but better. 5. No easy way to close out games going second. Before psychic end punisher was a thing, your best OTK tool was Utopia beyond and that speaks for itself. You can increase the deck's ceiling using the Punk engine or the Adventure stuff, but there many other decks that do the same but better (point 4). Going second is almost always a scoop unless your opponent ends on literally nothing or you open a big board breaker. You do have Zeus, but thats equally valid for any xyz deck under the sun. To put it bluntly, the deck already had its prime and it probably won't come back as long as VFD stays banned (I hope so). Much like Adamancipators without Block dragon

The main issue with VW is... It dies from Raigeki. It has Access to many monster negation. The Xyz and synchro toolbox is awsome, but there is no spell/trap negation for them.

THEY HAVE THE NEW CALAMITY SYNCHRO TO REPLACE VFD

Decks which rely on 1 card to win or be viable aren’t designed well. YGO suffers this greatly, and it’s a design flaw that makes the game worse over time. Virtual World, Phantom Knights, any deck really that can’t do ‘the thing’ with the core engine - main deck monsters, spells & traps, a link/xyz/synchro/fusion/ritual which works in conjunction with each other. Then, a new deck gets released, which is almost unbeatable, on top of some poor or just useless tech for old decks being released alongside it - POTE introduced Sprites and Tear, and there were technically ‘some’ new tech released for old decks (heroes) but it’s not even part of the conversation, because it’s nowhere near a competitive option against the new decks. It’s a little tiring, and power creep only exists due to lazy design. You could release new decks, and release good tech cards for old decks to make things way more interesting.

It's funny, because my locals has been won like 5-6 times in a row by the same VW player,. They finally lost this week to Cydra Spright.

This deck need a good boss monster, and a field spell. Without field spell it's just a Virtual Country.

Another instance of Duelists being shortsighted because they were looking for Lulu, Kauwloon and Chuche on the F/L List and leaving alone VFD/True King of All Calamities. Someone REALLY needs to setup a channel that shows the short sightedness of the player base when they see in real time the power creep of the game overthrowing decks that aren't even 5 years old yet.

It doesn't help that konami just doesn't seem to want to release good support for vw, I mean, last card they announced is garbage and does nothing to the deck, it doesn't have good stats, it targets, it requires 6 cards (2 to summon and 4 gates) to fully take advantage of it's effects (not to mention the resources needed to get those to the field), and then what? all of that for a once per turn monster negate? even if it dies very easily, at least shenshen forces your opponent to get rid of it first (unless you're floo) and leave your back row alone (mostly), unless they release very broken gates for it, or a not so generic broken boss monster that vw can summon very easily, I don't see vw winning any tournament. *sad vw player noises*.

But is it still playable?

The problem is that they can't out Dark Destroyer within the archetype.

It was 100% the calamities ban. I love the deck, it's really cool and it allows very varied builds and end boards, but it can't build really "unbreakable" boards or resist a lot of disruption. Calamities is simply a game winningly strong degenerate card, and being the best calamities turbo deck is what made VW a force in the meta.

Shenshen is pretty nice as a floodgate, has won me matches on it's own. Generic materials

Another archetype you could look at Adam is Adamancipator. That deck was Tier 0 or. 0.5 on release and lost so much over time incl Block Dragon, Halq and the Prankids engine. Such a shame, I hope B Dragon gets limited to perhaps shake up the meta.

VFD makes VW a tiered deck so if it is now ban then VW out of meta.

No vfd no halq most synchro decks went out the window.

There is no best rank 9 that virtual world can go. With only Barren + Shensen only. The first board is ridiculous weak. However if player can find a way to incorporate or combo to summon Kashtira Shangri-la, maybe possible virtual have hope in TCG. In MD with pankratops at 3, once Kashtira avialable definitely dino-Kashtira is the way to go and only MD can go this broken deck.

VW needs a pendulum monster that also works as a Gate with effects that allow to search and or/manipulate levels. With that and the new XYZ the deck would be more than playable again

both of your arguments are kinda lacking and sounds like unexperienced with the extra deck tech options the archetype has. they just fell out of the meta due to the usual power creep. i've been using that very same competitively now, and the usual handtraps you're saying can still be countered with called and even crossout
