What Its Like to have the PICC Line Put In For Chemo

The PICC line (peripherally inserted central catheter) was put into my arm for the chemo to go through into my system, they also take blood really easily through it. I love it and hate it but I had NO idea this was coming and didn't understand till it happened. by then I just had to go with the flow! So if I can pre-warn you about it, you can go in with a better understanding than me!

I just wanted to thank you for this video. I was recommended to get a picc line & I didn’t want to & was upset as I was told that I could do my 4 infusions through an IV. But I got an infection & now it’s in my best interest to get one. Watching your video it made me feel better about getting it tomorrow. So thank you.

Oh you have just made my day! I am so glad I could help your Father! The unknown can be so worrying which is why I make my videos to help others. The PICC line was my best friend in the end, it was all so much easier with it in, they could take blood and do what they needed to do without having to find a vein every time. I wish your Father Luck with it all, the chemo will all be over before he knows it! Thank you for watching!

This video has been brilliant, thank you. I’m not sure if I am having a port or a PICC now because I have requested a port after arranging for a PICC. But after seeing your video I’m not half as anxious about it as I was. 🤞

Thank you Tish! I see it as the only control I have over Cancer is how I think about it, and staying positive is the best and only thing for it! Thank you for subscribing! Unfortunately, Chemo has had other plans for my hair and I can't do my Pixie cut now :( The question now is whether to shave it all off or not! Hmmmm!

Omg in the US it would be anchored and protected. You only have one lumen or port, usually you would have 2 or 3. It needs to be taped so it doesn’t flap. Your hair and scarf looks fabulous. I’m sure it’s fine, just a difference. My mother passed away from cancer, hers was so fast she didn’t even get to a pic or port.

Not painful, but it is better to get a Port. I switched from PICC Line to Port and it is so much better. Less maintenance, you can swim, shower and not worry so much like with the PICC Line.
