What It Took to Restore a BMW E39 5er Back to its Former Glory - Project Rottweil: P7
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
From rotting at the dealership lot to a near-factory fresh car. That's the story that this 2002 BMW E39 530i Touring aka project Rottweil has the tell. In the past episodes, we addressed the mechanical side of things and the interior, now it's time for the exterior as we completely transform old and battered Toledo blue paint. At the end of the video, you can find a complete breakdown cost of this project.

And no budget constraints 😅 although to be fair, it’s still a good car for €17k, but insurance will never value this car so high probably.

@@christeranttila9927 in my limited experience, i went to a comparison portal, entered the requested vehicle data, and got a quote based on the estimated value. They have some database and stuff to estimate this automatically. For special cases probably a valuation in person would be needed, i guess. Not sure how that works

For once they dont instantly take out the " poking screwdriver" to hunt for rust holes in a 90s BMW. Many E36 are rotten away, many E39 are only still good because people look after them more...

Thought is it illegal two retrofit bi-xenon. Would love to hear what the tuv inspector reallay said to this one. From my understanding it's completly illegal to change anything in the headlights, including the projectors, even if you don't use the bi-xenon function.

The most important thing is that it keeps us e39 owners inspired to overcome challenges of bringing our bimmers back to life and keeping them in good condition. Because their numbers are going down every year, and sometimes I drive for weeks before I see another e39, and even then most of them are saloons as opposed to my touring.

and of course that does not include the man hours in the bill! It's like when you watch some of the beautiful restorations on Car SOS, then imagine what the actual cost would be to a regualar joe, I often imagine it must be in the high 5 figures...
What a finish that is. This car looks almost brand new ! I mean you should bring it back to the dealership. Saler would say : “No way this is the same car.” I’m enjoying every project but this one might be the one I’m the most hyped. You came from so far and just look at the result ! Sreten, you can be proud of yourself because I guess we all are. You definitely are the BMW magician !
The attention to detail is just something else. It really looks like a new car. From an era when BMWs were indeed superior. What a lovely thing. Amazing job.
Sreten we really are spoiled to be able to share the satisfaction of finishing your projects, without having to put in any of the long hours you put in to doing them. You're work is unmatched, please keep doing what you're doing. Big congratulations on your wedding too, all the best.
Sreten, I think your channel motto should read - " I have a very specific set of skills - I'll hunt down certain BMW's, Find them and restore them". Again you have hit this one out of the park and into the new car Showroom. !! Fantastic- Love watching you do these restorations.
This series inspired me to get a e39, in fact my first BMW. Don’t have the Sreten’s knowledge and skill but you are definitely inspiring a lot of us into rebuilding how we can these cars and showing us how to properly do it . Thank you
i would love to see the reaction of the people of the used car dealership this e39 was bought from sitting at the back of the lot waiting for someone to buy it or for the day it was going to go rest in pieces at a scrapyard, totally unreal transformation and restoration
Very nice to see someone go from a novice at paint correction to working for and achieving professional results, arguably better than people I have seen who have been doing it for years. You have great technique, but more importantly you possess the patience that deters many people from properly correcting paint. Props to not only the folks who taught you, but you as a person. Great work.
I have to say, i am not a TV guy, but since i started following your videos on youtube, i have been since constantly waiting in anticipation for each and every episode! what you do is simply artistic, professional, skillful and majestic. It just really describes my approach to my stuff and of course including my cars. super amazing how the E39 came out, i think it deserves way more than the cost you endured as it is simply a piece of art that is absolutely restored to perfection. Wishing you all the best wishes and congratulations, hope your wedding is epic Sreten!
One of the very few channels that I watch EVERY video completely! Bravo! (and thank you, keep on doing this!)
Not surprising, but as a car designer, and a kid who's formative car years were in the 90's/2000's, the E39 holds a special place in my heart. Thanks for doing such a great job transforming another one from rough to clean. Great work!
U probably heard this many times, but the amount of work you put in these cars is insane. I hope you are able to get enough rest in the day as this is much work. Wish you all the best man and keep up the amazing work!
I don't know how these projects make ANY financial sense but I'm glad that the internet has enabled your passion for us to enjoy @streten; bravo!
I wonder if the previous owner is watching this. If this would have been my previous car I would be so happy that it ended up in your hands! Cheers!
Sreten, you just can't help yourself! Turning your future workhorse everyday driver into a 10/10 machine! Amazing job!
Absolutely worth it, they don't make cars like this anymore. In 10-20 years it still be on the road and you will be happy as the first owner when it came from factory. Timeless cars!
Impresive, I just watched the whole Rottweil series and you made me dream about restoring a BMW. You deserve making a living by doing this and enjoying such amazing vehicules.
Wow, this video showcasing the restoration of a BMW E39 is truly special and spectacular! From its meticulous attention to detail to the skilled craftsmanship involved, it's mesmerizing to witness the transformation of this classic car. The dedication and passion of the restorers shine through, bringing the E39 back to its former glory. Watching this video is like stepping into a time machine, reminding us of the timeless beauty and elegance of the E39. Kudos to you behind this incredible restoration!
17 min into video, and it literally pains me when I think how much work this is. I call myself BMW enthusiast, but Sreten is simply on another level. And that level is light years far from mine, lol. The dedication he has is mind bogling.
It looks like it drove off the showroom floor, or actually even better!! What a labor of love!! This is more like a collectible than a daily driver. Congratulations on an amazing result!
"Just a daily runabout" becomes another labour of love and work of art. So Sreten...😄
Absolutely fantastic, it's great to see someone take so much pride in their work. That's the great thing about this channel, everything is done so well. It's definitely one of the best automotive channels on KZread. No doubt about it.
I love seeing Sreten picking up new skills and refining his craft after 3 years of watching him, its all about the journey!
Seeing the before and after at the end I couldn't help but smile, easily one of my favorite videos. Owning an E39 myself and trying to build it up over the last couple of years, this is the most relatable content for me so far.
I had two of these a 525d in the same colour as yours & a fantastic 530d. I’ve regretted selling both of them. The 530d was brilliant, powerful but economical. Great project & loved watching you bring an E39 back to life.
I am just completely amazed about how detailed your work is. You make sure everything is as close to the perfection as possible and this is what keeps the people glued to their screens. Thank you for constantly pushing out the great content and making car lovers love cars even more. Also you are definitely bringing the new ones to the flock, including me! :D Watching your channel made me interested in mechanics and stimulated me to get my first BMW and I enjoy every single moment of driving it. Keep up with the terrific work!
The joy of a new video🎉 I'm taking care of my neighbor's dog and they have an F30 in their garage, so as the mad BMW fan I am I crawl under and clean the under body, I can't help myself, it's so fun cleaning and checking out all the cool under body components!
The "no-nonsense, it's just a daily driver" projects are my favorite.
Absolutely spectacular Sreten, this one is very special. So much hard work but clearly rewarding both for your satisfaction and our viewing. Well done Sir.

Outstanding job. E39 is beautiful. Please use this to buy a cappuccino for Maria and yourself while on your honeymoon.
This channel and its content, not forgetting it's originator is beyond superb. The attention to detail is at another level of craftsmanship. Well done for a fabulous project. Looking forward as always to the next video.
Thank you for all of the process you go through to fix these cars and then show us as viewers how you did it. It takes a great deal of effort just to fix the cars let alone make and edit a video to go along with it.
This looks sooo good! Excelent work! Easily the best E39 driving around in every aspect! If that was 17K euro I can't imagine what the ALPINA number will be...!
Been watching this entire series, the first one of yours I've caught in full. I have a 540iT '00 with a 6 speed swap and a 525iT '01 with a factory five speed that I'm turning into a 530i. Got a lot of inspiration from it. P.S. Sell stickers, I'd put some on my wagons :)
I love how much love you put into every detail, these years are the best and should be preserved exactly as they are, unfortunately there will never be such beautiful and high-quality cars again. You have helped me with mine so many times, entertained me and made me laugh, thank you for that!
A beer well deserved Sreten! The E39 came out amazing! I especially love when you do headlight retrofits, it's probably my favourite mod to do!
It's perfect, this is why i support you on patreon, to allow you to make horrible financial decisions and save cars like these!
Love your content Sreten. This has been a gem of a series, though I do love rewatching your older content to see the journey and learning curve you've gone through! Keep it up 💪
Wow, one of the finest restoration videos I've ever seen. That looks absolutely phenomenal!
Your Work and Passion for the good old BMW´s is amazing and Project Rottweil is my Favourite by far ! Keep on doing what you do here, absolute Legend ! Greetings from Rottweil, Germany you make us BMW lovers Proud
You’re an absolute legend, wish I’d known about you when I was getting rid of my e39 touring, I’ve still got the headlights in my shed! Keep doing what you do, your work is so passionate and the car community appreciates and values your work so much. Your garage will be a sea of classics and future classics all worked on with your OCD and all better than factory fresh.
Never ceases to amaze me the work you put into these vehicles and the details you cover. Bravo.
As always, a great episode. I love that you brought this back to life. My first BMW was a black 2000 E46. First mod I did was retrofit bi-xenon projectors, and boy that headlight was far easier to work with - lens just clips right off! I cannot wait for the next epside.
Generosity... Passion... Dedication... Honesty... Thank you Dear Sreten
you made what we all dream of when we think about a e39 touring, the job you do is near perfect and god damn the hard work pays out, damn a beauty of a e39 touring
Superbly done, as usual. It’s so satisfying to watch the cars being reborn again! Gotta love it ❤.
Baffling, just baffling. I one day dream about being able to do anything close that you do, currently I own a 2003 530i sedan, and I'm slowly working on it trying to do preventative maintenance, only thing is money. But even though I still try to make the most out of it and try my best. I absolutely LOVE watching all of your videos, as they push me to not be afraid of simple maintenance and teaches me about my car that i previously knew absolutely nothing about. I hope to see a lot more videos from you in the future. Keep doing what you do
Blown away by your attention to detail, drive and determination. Absolutely inspirational. You're ability to work through the that don't instantly reward, showcases your spectacular drive to realize your end goal. I will be sharing this video series with all my friends that are in the middle of a resto, so they can take inspiration from you. Thank you for taking the time and making the effort!
I cannot wait to do my headlights like this on my E39 Touring! I redid the covers with a 3M kit and some auto store clear coat rattle can a few years ago, and have never been happy with the result. This looks great!
Absolutely astonishing result Sreten. its so satisfying to see this E39 looks much better than it left the factory!
I owned and drove a 2002 US specification e39 Touring in Germany while in the USAF from 2005 - 2009. The build quality of the 2000 - 2007 era 3,5,7 series is really the pinnacles BMW. Switch gear, road feel, ride, comfort, CA not be matched by newer BMW. Styling, while a matter of preference is NICE!! Great job on this one!!!
Jealousy is what i feel towards you, your skill, dedication and everything. i had one like that, and i effed it up. It still hurts years after the fact.
All I can say is: S P E T T A C O L O ! 🇮🇹 What an amazing transformation! Sreten, you're a wizard 🪄

Well done Sreten, the finished article is amazing. Almost crazy to go to this degree of finish for an old E39 Touring daily driver - but I guess thats why we all love the channel 🙂
The one we've been waiting for. Man you made this touring super super special, just perfectly done. Thanks for making my Sunday so freaking awesome 😎
Wow, fantastic job Sreten! I wonder what the reaction of the dealership or the last owner would be if he sees the shape the kombi is in now. Would make great content :)

Beautiful and unbelievable work as always! From a “just gonna fix some stuff so I can use it for daily driving” to “it to nice to take it out and get it dirty!”

What an amazing transformation you have achieved with this fantastic car, you sir are a master.
Sreten, a bit of advice on the Rupes. The rubber ring between the machine has the tendency to let the machine stall very fast. You can remove it and take a bit of dust or horizontally cut it in half so it won't rub on the disc below it.
What an amazing job and result you achieved by updating those headlights. I enjoyed seeing your skills and patience!!
