    I'd be kinda disappointed if I didn't get to take out large aged hardback books from a library. You know that ones that have that certain amazing smell to them, like ancient texts imbued with wisdom. Priorities an all that haha.

I already have BSc, MSc and PhD degree in STEM fields, and working in industry, but I've never had any essay-based education background, didn't even learn English language and literature at A-level (My A-level was Maths, FM, Physics, Chemistry, so...), and I didn't do GCSE (I am foreign). What would you recommend me doing in my own time to prepare myself for applying for a philosophy degree?

    Katie May mainly I wanted to know if it’s a really heavy reading course compared to psychology or math or others, also how hard would you rank it 1-10 , what made you have a calling to go into philosophy?

  • @KatieMay7

    @KatieMay7

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi! There is quite a bit of reading but it differs module to module (and I assume uni to uni), I can’t compare to maths or psychology as I don’t take those subjects but Philosophy definitely has a lot less reading than English Literature! On a scale of 1-10 is probably give it an 8, but content differs from uni to uni again so difficult to say if that would be universal. I personally chose to take it as I took Philosophy in High School and really enjoyed it and it was also the subject I always got my best marks in - my brain seems to be wired for the Philosophy way of thinking! I hope those answers help you a little!

    I wouldn’t say a philosophy degree is useless but if you’re studying in the UK you’d want to be on a medicine course from first year. I have graduated theoretical philosophy as my major. So, this should be interesting. If you don’t get something, ask me. I know all and nada! - ”Philosohy is quite text heavy subject once you get into it.” I cracked. Nice irony there.

    You have to go to university if you want a philosophy degree, however, you don't really need to go to university to study philosophy.

    Philosophy is a futile degree and it will simply spoil our career because there is less scope and job oppurtinity in this field

    I think that’s your personal opinion. However, I do not think it is true as a humanities subject Philosophy opens a lot of employment opportunity doors from marketing, to journalism, to teaching. Just because a degree doesn’t have an obvious career at the end of it doesn’t mean it doesn’t have lots of employment opportunities.
