What it's like to OWN a Ferrari F40 LM | Chris Palmer Interview Part 2 | Supercar Driver | 4K

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Welcome to part 2 of our interview with Chris Palmer!
In this episode, we chat to Chris about his ownership experience with 3 of Ferrari's big 5, and also the fire-breathing Ferrari F40 LM.
Chris Palmer has owned most, if not all of the greatest cars from the 80s, 90s and 2000s including two McLaren F1s, multiple F40s including an F40 LM, Pagani Zonda S and road legal Porsche 962 to name just a few.
He owned these cars in period when they weren't quite as priceless as they are now and used and drove them all as intended.
In this 4 part mini-series, we sit down with Chris, wind the clock back and find out what it was like to own these legendary cars and dig deep into some of his most fond memories.

I met Chris when he drove the Enzo to the Le Mans Classic. I was in my CS. He struck me as a really down-to-earth and humble guy. Enthused to share his cars with other petrol heads. Shame he sold so many classics on, but at least he has the memories!

I was there too in one of the Grey Diadlo that he talks about , however I was extremly hung over ! but the Enzo did show us its heels. If I remember rightly there is a video of Chris holding a camera (thats driving one handed) on the speedo at just over 200 mph which took some balls..! What a great trip will always have good memories, especially the guy in that old Caddy.

I think he is mistaken. The GTE that raced the BPR Championship in 1996 was the ultimate F40 because it had the latest 3.5-liter engine evolution , new and bigger rear wing, and a X-Trac sequential gearbox. If my memory is correct, the plaque on the Ferrari museum said it had 720 hp with the regulation required restrictors, 900 hp without.

I had Italian woodworking machines, and while I'm not comparing a planer or bandsaw to a car, in terms of complexity, the instruction manual was exactly the same, when a manual was even available. I suppose that was the Italian approach to industrial manufacturing in the eighties and nineties. Good machines, though.

I don’t know how can people hate f50 so much. It’s a beautiful looking car. Mayne F40 was so beautiful and clean looking that people couldn’t move on easily to f50 at that time. But Ferrari designers knew what they are doing back then

Love his stories. Wonder what business he was exactly into as he mentions the Monaco visit during the Enzo part. Thankyou “Supercar driver” for getting this video made. Here is a tip. You guys should interview interesting owners like this once in a month or two. It could be a huge hit. I remember when VinWiki channel was young with the owners story of owning a Mclaren. I knew that they would grow well if they continued that format.

I once entered a competition where 10 statements about Ferrari had to be put into order of importance. In case there was a tie break, entrants had to complete a sentence beginning with ‘I’d like to drive a Ferrari because …..’ using no more than 16 words. I didn’t win the competition because my order of importance was different to the panel that chose the order of importance but Jeremy Clarkson did use my winning sentence in one of his Top Gear reviews. My sentence was ‘I’d like to drive a Ferrari because everyone would know I had arrived before I’d even set off’.

Why did he sell his most valuable cars like the f40s, enzo, f1s etc? And he hasn’t got any cars of mega value anymore. Obviously he has cgt and Diablos etc, but nothing in the same ball park as he used to own. Any reason why?
