I have one Pyrenees . She is a joy like having another child in the home. Idk if we could ever have 6. She is demanding on attention. She is a little stubborn but will stay in the yard and lives in our home. We have a small house but I don’t have the heart to tie her up outside because she likes being around us so much. We have a 5 yr old grand son, he is hyper but she loves him and the hyperness he has. She handles better then I and his grandpa. We are very pleased with Bella, our Great Pyrenees.

They are like over size golden retrievers

I have 2 and they both drool a lot. Wouldn't trade them for the world though.

Have one rescue pyr for just over a month and he is a BIG drooler. Keep finding drool castoff from when he shakes his head. Worth putting up with for our gentle giant floofer .

We really miss our pyrs!! They are so very sweet ! In our mid 70s we don' t feel able to care for them the way they deserve.

I'm right there with you Autumn. We lost our first pyrenees boy gentle giant this past July as well to Lymphoma ( an aggressive cancer). It's been really hard for me not having him always with me. I miss him more and more everyday. :(

Beautiful dogs!. I have a Rottweiler/Great Pyrenees mix who is the most loving animal I have ever known. He weighs in at 165 lbs. Absolutely love him.

@@WillowRidgeAcres Just-in Case. His mom was an abandoned Rotti. His dad was that beautiful Great Pyrenees from down the road. Hes my sons dog, kinda. He adores me more because I take care of him. My son had a massive stroke July 2019 which rendered him paralyzed on his left side. I'd love to show ya'll a photo but don't know how here. Just-in is also a good soccer player. Thank you for your wonderful show. Its taught me a lot about how to care for him.

Mine have distinguishing markings my daughter does nothing except what i order her to do. Lol love theyre butts even though its more work for me 😁

We rescued a five year old Great Pyrenees mix about two months ago. She also has golden retriever (we did a Doggy DNA kit) and her color is red/blonde golden. She has lots of the Great Pyrenees traits and when you rubbed your dog's belly the spots are like my girl's spots on her belly. She is 82 pounds so not as big as a pure breed. She is a wonderful dog, very affectionate and she walks great on a leash. She is great in the house and we named her Dolly. She is a perfect companion and we are so glad she is now a part of our family. Thanks for the video. I will now subscribe.

I have a Pyrenees and standard schnauzer. Brett up on the mountain I live on. Molly is about 80 lb. Did they always want to be Pet? She will be a year old on the 12th of June Yes this month. I think the standard schnauzer might have centered her growth but I'm not sure yet being only a year old this month. She's a sweetheart.

My boy Murfie is 32” at the shoulder also. He weighs 190. He’s a love. He’ll be 6 in June. They are amazing. So different from other breeds. The absolute best.

Mine are just as active as the German shepherds I had in 03.

Hefty food bill. Overkill for farm protection, probably get by with two.😇

Possibly, but highly unlikely as we have a hot wire running high and low on our fence line. That would certainly be a "shocking" experience for them if they tried lol

Those cows, goats, and chickens must feel very safe on your farm. Even the sneakiest raccoon would have a hard time infiltrating a property guarded by 6 pyrs.

I adopted my Great Pyrenees in July 2022. My Lily has my heart forever. She is the sweetest pup, most obedient and doesn't bark that much. We have three other dogs and she fits in beautifully with them. I love all our babies and I love your channel.

This was so fun to watch! Love seeing all your babies grow up. Brophy is 8 months now and I miss the puppy stage (he's so big now!) I agree they are so great in the house. We are working on some barking issues now, however, he's smart and I feel he's doing better each day learning what he should bark at... compared to barking at the falling leaves :)

Thank you for the video educating people about Great Pyrenees. I have a neighbor who walks her to retrievers by my barn every day. The barn is where am I GP loves to hang out in. This neighbor feels I am being so cruel and mean to leave her there instead of bringing her into the warm house which where she is so uncomfortable.At night she does come in an enclosed porch, so she guards me. I’ve gotten used to her barking.It’s always just some deer in the yard. I am definitely looking to rescue. Another one Koda is a gentle giant. I called snuffling when Koda rubs her face in mine. thank you. I will be eagerly awaiting more of your videos💕

I acquired a Great Pyrnees fromneighbor . She was having problem keeping him home. She was gone frequently so he escaped and came to visit us. Although I don't have livestock anymore, I have 5 fenced in acres. His biggest problem is being timid about walking on my wood floors. I took Otis. I was afraid for him that he might get hit by car.

Absolutely amazing! Such beautiful dogs! I’m curious- MD I know you aren’t Vets but our Great Pyrenees- Phoebe- is a toddler …1.5 years old and was one of 11 puppies in her litter….she is extremely food aggressive as was her father…I have a rescued little mutt puppy too. I have no idea why Phoebe is so food aggressive and I feed them separately but she still will absolutely go berserk sometimes and try to rip our other pup’s face off…do you have that issue with any of your flock? I actually thought for a long time it was because she was in pain..at 14 months she needed a complete hip replacement ( she simply grew too fast from being as big as our cat to being absolutely massive -95 lbs - and because she grew so fast her hip just completely missed fusing into the hip socket and was completely outside the socket- I assumed for months ( she was diagnosed with needing the surgery at 6 months old but we couldn’t get it done until she had stopped growing) I assumed she was food aggressive because she was in constant pain and worried about having to fight for food maybe something she experienced as a tiny puppy baby having 10 siblings but we have had her since she was 8 weeks old though and she’s never had to go without anything….her father was known for being extremely food aggression too and I’m curious if that is GP trier, or. Big dog trait or just something inherited or just a personality quirk…

Mine gets in my face when eating.We had to buy a bar top high kitchen table.

It breaks my heart when these poor female dogs are only used for breeding and when they can no longer have babies they are dumped. I would like to know tho, when you do have more puppies, will they be available for adoption, I live in New Jersey. Also, what is the fee for adopting?

How do you do feeding time? My Pyrenees will fight over kibble with our other dogs or friends dogs that are around. I’m strict about having food, toys, bones, etc out but it could literally be anything interesting my dog wants that she wants to keep away from other dogs

Our Great Pyrenees don't lick at all.

I'll be moving to the country (all family lives there ) . And my #1 choice dog for farm would be Great Pryeens and boarder collies -the smartest heading dogs. And Great Pryeens to work the perimeters and inate ability /only dog that has compassion for other animals ( goats Chicken sheep ect😁 keep everyone/ their farm safe. I added border collies bc if you've ever seen them trained in Ireland, it's mind blowing they are Einstein of the cattle/goat / live stock herding group ❤️😁. I guess I'll have to learn some Gaelic 😄

Excellent choice of breeds for working dogs. We have Great Pyrenees for livestock guarding and a Blue Healer for herding

I have a 8 month old Great pyrenees. More of an indoor pup. He's pulling fur put of his tail! Not sure what to do! And will his fur grow back? Help!

Just been to Indiana to see my daughter and son in law and they have three dogs including a Pyrenees, she used to sit between me and my wife and give my wife the pyr paw if she stopped petting her, but she would kick me with her back leg if I stopped petting her,this would send my daughter into giggles, she had not notice this before and wondered if this was a normal thing for a Pyrenees. to do

Hi there, I adopted a male Pyreness Arti. He is a 1 year. I love him but I am having lots of problems with his eating habbit because he is very picky as of the last month. I have days when he refuses to eat. I have tried all thought of things. He eats at first and than rejects it. I am very worried because of his weight. Is there anything I can do? What do you feed yours? I have two other dogs, Bella, a pyrenees mix. She is 11 years old (developed cancer) and Ronnie, a 12 year old female. She is a collie mixture. Please advice.

Someone please,what should I do so my puppy won't hide. She is hiding for a week since we adopted her.

I love that you don't over breed your girls, but how do you ensure that they don't tie through the fence? To many people have had that happen so I'm just curious if you use constant monitoring, or if the girls are always with you?

We keep our male, Mack on a cross-fenced section of the property if one of our girls are in heat and not ready to be bred. And we have a hot wire/electric fence that we turn on. It only took Mack getting shocked a couple times and now he won’t dare come within a foot of the fence. He’ll still bark and whine and try to follow the girls up and down the fence but he keeps his distance from the fence.

That’s the truth.. my snow she is Female. And she loves for you to keep your hand on here or she will paw you.

Thanks for watching! Yes, that could very well be why. While Great Pyrenees are not an overly active breed, they do still need some exercise during the day to keep them chill. Our dogs have a daily morning routine of running and chasing each other around and they get some of that energy out.

How do you keep ticks and fleas off of them when they have such thick fur?

Luckily we don’t have many ticks here in south Texas. For the fleas, we use what our vet prescribes. We also treat the yard/property a few times each season

Hey everyone. I am fixing to get a 11 week old pyrenees. Some friends of mine got her and decided she wasn't right for them. I am an otr truck driver and was wondering if she would do OK in the truck with me? She is almost house broken so that is a plus. Any advice would be a big help

Hey Lee! Thanks for watching! To be honest, an 11 week old Great Pyrenees is going to behave much like most 11 week old puppies. She's going to have a lot of energy and need a lot of attention until she matures. From our experience, Great Pyrenees tend to mature much quicker than other breads, but you'd still be looking at at least a year to two years of orneriness. 😂 Not saying it's impossible for an 11 week old GP puppy to do well on the road, but it would certainly be challenging. Hope that helps!

No they are generally a healthy hearty breed.

We just got a 12w old GP and she's nuts starting around 12 to 4 o'clock in the morning! 😭 Hopefully the doggy daycare will tire her out enough that she would sleep more at night as we work daytime and nobody plays with her or take her for a walk. Any suggestions and tips?

I am not trying to be condescending or assume you don’t know the breed but in trying to help you I will share what we learned about our GP - GP are bred to be nocturnal guard dogs….mostly for sheep….every day when the sun starts to set our girl Phoebe has a huge personality change….people, kids and animals she has been a complete sweetheart with all day she will all of a sudden growl and bark at-and she paces - and you can see her becoming anxious- she doesn’t ever go farther than barking/growling but it’s particularly noticeable when we aren’t at home - if we are at our cabin or anywhere she doesn’t completely control she will go into guard alert mode at sunset and all night long….she is fiercely protective all day too though - if we are outside in the yard and she hears or sees a neighbor she will run over to me and throw her body in front of me, she will pin me into a corner with her body pushing into me to put herself in between me and anything she considers a threat…my point is that GP’s have incredible “ guard” tendencies at night…so your puppy might be learning to deal with those innate instincts they are born with to be alert and on guard from sunset to sunrise…as our puppy Phoebe got used to the house and the sounds of nighttime she did calm down with her night time guard barking but she will go sleep at night in the middle part of the house where she can see the doors and feels in control…..just like teenagers adjusting through puberty I believe our GP had to adjust to those instincts she has as a nocturnal guard dog - and when she became accustomed to the standard sounds during the night she calmed down and isn’t as defensive as she used to be - I have had dogs of all breeds and mixes my whole life but Phoebe is the most “ devoted” and protective dog I’ve ever had…I’ll share Phoebe’s behavior in general- no matter what time of day or night it is the minute I get up from sitting or the bed she is jumping up with me, she walks in front of me in a criss cross walking pattern almost like a border collie , Phoebe’s grandmother was a border collie so she clearly has some Border Collie instincts too - even walking from the bedroom to the living room she walks in front of me and looks back every few seconds to see where I am , she never lets me go outside alone at night and she is 100% aware of me every single second even if she is asleep…if I move she moves…she is very aware of every squirrel, cat, dog, possum in our neighborhood….she herds the cats ( we have 3) and we also have a little mutt mix the size of a small cat who she herds when we are walking….she is 100% devoted to her family and is also incredibly sweet and loving and loves hugs, she paws me when she wants attention and she was incredibly easy to train…..the only issue of concern with her is that she is extremely food aggressive ( might be a side effect of her being in a litter of 11 puppies) and sometimes toy aggressive to the point of being terrifyingly fighting with our other puppy Floki… I will also share that at 5 months old Phoebe started limping and we thought she had torn a ligament or muscle but 3 weeks later she was diagnosed with hip dysplasia and when she had finally stopped growing at 14 months ( and was 95 lbs) she had a complete hip replacement because the bone that is supposed to be going into the hip socket was completely on the outside of the socket….. she simply grew too fast - she will need her other hip done in the next couple of years but the left one was brutally out of alignment and caused her extreme pain…..Hip replacement is the most serious and complex surgery a dog can get ( hers took 5 hours and 2 surgeons and she was in the vet hospital for 6 days) and is extremely expensive ( 11K) and requires 3 months of very intensive recovery but it is was well worth it for her to be out of pain ….anyway- just thought I would share about my GP and hopefully something I’ve said is helpful to you! I do believe your puppy will settle down when she has learned to control her instinctive nocturnal guarding tendencies…..

She barely wakes up at night and pace around the house but she will get up to every little noise she hears. She's only 16weeks and it might change as she grows older. I found that shutting off our lights help her be calm at night so she would stop chasing our cat. Lol

Was wondering how to have two males together as guardians; should they be neutered ? I’d love to get two boys but not sure; any help in finding how to safely have 2 males on a farm please comment:)

Great question! We have to keep our two boys separated as they are both intact and we have females that go into heat. Mack and Monty actually got along just fine for the first few weeks after we got Monty. But as soon as one of our females went into heat, the two boys don’t play nice anymore. We plan to get Monty fixed as we are not using him for breeding but we are treating him for heart worms and our vet advised not to put too much stress on him with an additional operation right now. To answer your question though, I’d say as long as they were neutered you shouldn’t have an issue.

@@melissamanzano4588 Love it! And to be honest, if you are looking to get two Great Pyrenees, I would actually suggest a male and a female. It's been our experience that the females tend to be a bit more "proactive" when it comes to alerting and running towards the threat. Our males are big and imposing, but they tend to hang back with the herd and only run towards the threat if they perceive the need to provide backup. That tandem seems to provide a great amount of protection for our livestock.

Do your dogs ever get aggressive over their food? I used to have 2 females and they would become aggressive during feeding times so we ended up rehoming one of them. I really would love to have a Male GP but I'm scared of being in the same situation again. I thought of breeding her and keeping a boy. What are your thoughts?

Thank you for watching, Evelyn! Yes, our Great Pyrenees can get food aggression at times. We have found that being consistent with making them sit calmly before we give them their food has helped control the food aggression. We also give them a few feet of space between each other when feeding. E.g. we won’t put their food bowls close to each other. I wouldn’t suggest breeding her just to keep one of the male puppies. I would look for a rescue GP or bring in a new pup. Hope that helps! We may touch on the topic of food aggression in a future video. Stay tuned!

@@WillowRidgeAcres thank you for your response. Yes I agree on rescuing one instead but for some reason I thought if it was her own puppy that she would be more nurturing towards her baby. It was just a thought. I'm also scared that if I do rescue an adult Male that they will have the same issue with food agression.

No problem! From our experience, we kept one of Mabel’s puppies from her first litter (Meredith), and while Mabel is a very nurturing mother to her pups, that did wear off as Meredith grew. They can show food aggression toward each other if we get lax with our feeding routine.

Our rescue male, Monty, isn’t any more aggressive over food than the others. Just staying consistent with their feeding routine and making them sit and be calm before giving them their food bowls helps

@@WillowRidgeAcres I see, that makes total sense. Thank you very much for helping me see it from a different perspective. I will most likely get her spayed and try finding her a GP from a rescue so we could at least give it a try first before making any permanent decisions. Thanks from El Paso TX/Chaparral NM

How did you train them not to hurt your chickens? My Great Pyrenees is wonderful and is fine with the goats but goodness, he can’t be trusted with our chickens. Once four roosters jumped out of our barn and tried to attack me, one grabbed my foot! My Great Pyrenees came running from the other side of the property when he heard my screams to save me! I really trust him, but not with birds:)

Only dislike licks because of allergic reaction. Lol still training my 3 to not lick me or my fave lol they lick my daughter like crazy lol 4 months old still as well 😁

Can these dogs scare away coyotes?

Absolutely. They will scare them away with their size and bark and will fight off coyotes if necessary.

We have a male GP and we do not live on a farm but I think it's misleading to say that they are some laid-back breed. We had to take him to a full day of play group every day for the first 3 years. Scaled it back one day a week until he reached 7. Now at 7 he is much more of a couch potato

I don't think it's entirely misleading as it's standard for the breed, like saying all huskies are hyper but even then someone will somehow have a couch potato husky. It's more desirable for all their pyrs to be very laid-back since they have to be gentle with other animals, and anyone wanting a 100+ lbs dog to protect chickens wouldn't want a hyper mess that can't handle not being entertained by other people and dogs often until 3-7 yrs old. But yes they should have specified that it's most common, but that other pyrs may not fit the exact mold :) mine is a year old naughty puppy and I'd say she's really laid back, she's just super excitable after she hasn't seen you a while and when she knows she's going on a walk haha, and the only time she was ever destructive was when she was teething and then never again. I would say their description of pyrs is very accurate and any other pyrs I've known are the same.

Thank you for watching our video Mike. We did not intend to be misleading in any way. It has been our experience that with 6 Great Pyrenees, all of them have been very laid back. Obviously there are some exceptions to the rule.

Monty drools a little when it’s hot in the summer. But other than that ours really don’t drool.

Yea they only shed the first 6 months of the year and then shed the last 6 months of the year

No. We have never and will never shave or trim our Great Pryrenees. We brush them often to help shed their thick undercoat in the summer.

NOT A BIG DROOLER. WHATEVER. My Great Pyrenees DROOLS ALOT, and loves to lick. Love her though, best dog ever had.

They don't look like they are in very good shape
