This video is a brief behind the scenes of Vermouth. I tell you which is the best Vermouth, how to drink vermouth and answer the question, what is fortified wine.
Hey there, I'm Steve the Barman, a 40 something Bartender with over 20 years of experience behind the stick. As I've got older, I've perfected my craft and I'm now recognised and hired as a Fun, Comedic Entertainer. Now i specialise in providing Cocktail Making Masterclasses for Hen Parties and Corporate Events.
My KZread Channel, is my bit of fun. While i love to Entertain, I also really LOVE to Educate, and also educate myself. So not only am i sharing my knowledge, but the research I have to do for my channel fuels my hunger to learn even more.
My #Boozeflash playlist are full of vertical Videos. I'm not sure if i'm a trendsetter or not, but i realise we all love to watch video on our Phones and Tablets, and while we can flip our phones into horizontal mode, to watch in 16:9, i just feel that these vertical 9:16 Videos really work well.

    Rarely drink vermouth because I don't prefer to store at home due to issues you've just mentioned. When I drink, I do at a bar. Think that a few drop of gin makes it better when mixed with tonic. Otherwise becomes too low at alcohol. Nice video.

    Great that you also showed the Martini vermouth. I read so often that I should go AT LEAST with Noilly Prat and that Martini would ruin my drink. So I made the Pepsi test blindfolded. I could smell and taste a tiny difference, but mixed up Martini extra dry with Noilly prat. They taste so similar. So, from that time on I stock myself with Martini extra dry for 7€ instead Noilly Prat with 12€. I can only suggest to other viewers: Try out different vermouths and stick to those you like. Maybe it's not the expensive one.

    I'm glad I watched this. I've been wanting to try vermouth recently and I've never had vermouth outside of cocktails before and assumed it goes bad as fast as a bottle of wine. I've only used it I Manhattans thus far and each time I buy a bottle I would only open it for parties and then toss whatever was left over within a week. Now I know it'll be safe to drink even a week or two later. Now I just need to hunt down some more vermouth. In Ontario Canada we are very limited in terms of vermouth offerings

    Refrigerate your vermouth, like you would any other wine. If you get a nice rosso/sweet vermouth, make yourself a negroni. Equal parts Campari, vermouth and gin of your choice, with an orange twist. You'll thank me later!

    Hi Steve, So about Martini, it is an italian brand and also a cocktail which we make historically by gin but nowadays with vodka. Right?

  • @StevetheBarmanUK

    @StevetheBarmanUK

    A “Martini” the cocktail simply refers to the style of Cocktail, as in the Glass it gets served in. More often now people will refer to the actual “Martini” cocktail by Brand or as a “Gin Martini”. So for example a Tanqueray Martini or a Bombay Martini. However, with Vodka it’s Always a “Vodkatini” or a “Vodka Martini”. If you actually went in to a Bar and ordered a “Martini”, you would get many questions in return; Brand, How Dry, Garnish. It’s the equivalent of asking the Waiter for just a “Glass of Wine”. Hope that helps.

    An "oldie" but a goodie!!! Steve this is terrific information on Vermouth!! You know, until about a year ago, I hadn't had Vermouth. I love wine and I never drank anything else. But in the last year I have come to really enjoy some cocktails that include Vermouth. I love it but I am so glad to continue learning! I love your videos!! Keep them coming!! Oh, and I try to buy a smaller bottle of Vermouth, if it's available, so I can use it up more easily while it is still pretty fresh!! I love the Lustau Vermouth and Sherry products! They are amazing! Sometimes I use Carpano Antica when using other higher end spirits and sometimes Noilly Prat. But the Lustau Vermouth is so wonderful! I am just starting to try the Sherry products! I think they make 2-3? Great info as always!!

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermouth - The vermut was invented in the '700 in Italy Pedemont, and it is an Italian wine, IGP protected. Like Champagne is French and all the rest is just an imitation, Vermut is of Turin, Italy and the rest is a pale imitation. Martini is one of the most ancient producers. Why being so surprised people think that Martini is its type of win . Practically Martini it is a synonym of vermut.

    +Charlemagne Prokopyshyn 🤣. So 97% of “Martini” Cocktails don’t have a Vermouth in them. In this day and age it purely refers to the shape of the glass used. That V shaped “Martini” glass. So Pornstars, Appletinis, Lychee Martinis etc etc DON’T have vermouth in them. However when you hear a “Gin Martini” or a “Vodka Martini/Vodkatini” it the Vesper. They are traditionally that Neat spirit stirred down with Vermouth. In this case the brand Martini, or Noilly Prat, Lillet, Dolin or the one I feature in the video Lustau.

    Vermouth must have minimum 15% Alcohol. It is an aromatic wine. But in some countries there are Vermú with 14% alcohol. No need to add brandy to wine to produce Vermouth. Vermouth or Vermú can be drunken straight or mixed with tonic, gin, vodka, or wine. One of the mixes is Red Vermú with Gin, and is called Cat, Gato in spanish. Also can be fortified with a Hot Spice like Chile Manzano, or cayena pepper, just very few amount of pepper. The Vermouth is a special type of wine, red, white, sweet, dry, etc. Best regards.
