It’s so easy to fall into the routine of just blindly supporting these companies churning out garbage, and it’s a snowball effect. Anyway, definitely getting settled in. Trying to get into some sort of work flow now…

That's effed up! Selling reviews.. I read alot of reviews before buying on Amazon and I've seen some strange ones, now I know why.

I mean, I don’t have “proof” but I have a smoking gun… It’s VERY frustrating for those of us who like to (try to) be informed consumers.

I’d heard about the review issues before and it was one of the many many reason why I avoid places like Amazon (not too big in Aus) eBay (unless it’s second hand stuff) etc as I’m finding the quality of products (despite the “great reviews”)from the majority of sellers is just rubbish and you end up paying 2 or 3 times to get something that you can use. Instead I delay the purchase so I can save up for a good quality product that works the first time and I can use again and again and again. Some wise bugger somewhere once said “The Bitterness of Poor Quality Remains Long After the Sweetness of Low Price is Forgotten”.

Some wise bugger indeed. While not an entirely American phenomenon, we Yanks sure do seem to have bought part and parcel into the whole Amazon experience…and as I’m sure you can tell, it bothers me a bit. Though I’m finding it difficult enough to change my own behavior, let alone do I expect to change anyone else’s.

Thank you brother!!! I’ve really made a concerted effort to stay away from items and companies that are not from the U.S. Some things just aren’t made here and that’s very unfortunate. I was not aware of the Amazon review scams…

Hey Steve. I hope you’ve been well. It’s quite a conundrum that we find ourselves in, isn’t it. I think it does a lot, just trying to at least be somewhat mindful of supporting the most local of providers that we can. On some stuff…you just can’t help it, as you said. What cleco did you get ? I'd love a video on them. That's one way to counter is to keep making review videos and then we at least have a honest review to reference

I had to go dig back through my records, Scott. They were from a company called “Boulderfly Tools, LLC” out of Mercer, PA. Not sure if they have a Chinese parent (they’re all over Amazon and eBay), but they’re also sold by a couple of the bigger aircraft supply houses, and the quality is top notch. I go into some detail on them in my roadster series (“Finishing Up The Rear Body”). Thanks!

I havent ever used Amazon. I have no special reason for that, mostly i have seen china crap in there and that sucks my interest away from that marketplace. But i have bought a s**t load of stuff from ebay since 2006. Ofcourse there are also a lot of china crapola for sale too, but i usually buy some hard to find car or bike parts from there. Finding some of that stuff needs luck and patience, but it feels like you are on a hunting trip than buying stuff from internet.

Yeah, all I can make are excuses, but it’s become very difficult not to use for us. I wear contact lenses, and use a special lens solution, because I have sensitive eyes. It was already expensive, but our local place kept raising the price every time they brought it in (I think I was probably the only person buying it). I looked on Amazon and it was nearly half the price. Then, they offer you 5% off if you put it on a monthly auto-ship subscription, and then if you add 5 more items, they give you 15% off. So the next thing you know, I’m getting my toothpaste, deodorant, and a multi-vitamin from them too, every month. It just kinda snowballs from there.

@@crazycaseyscustoms Looks like they got you hooked 😁 Well, understand that eye thing. I know that medical stuff can be expensive there. If i was a citizen of US and live there, i would do the same thing as you.
