I just came across Ramachandran in a book I'm reading. Also just came across this topic of "transhumanism". There are so many strong emotions connected to this topic. I'm excited to see what is going to happen with this one.

In the past, we've had to compensate for weaknesses, finding quick solutions that only benefit a few. But what if we never need to feel weak or morally conflicted again? What if the path Sarif wants us to take enables us to hold on to higher values with more stability? One thing is obvious. For the first time in history, we have a chance to steal fire from the gods. To turn away from it now - to stop pursing a future in which technology and biology combine, leading to the promise of a Singularity - would mean to deny the very essence of who we are. In Nature terrible things happen like murder or rape, just because it happens in Nature it doesnt mean it should be. How did slaveholders legitmate slavery? Also maybe your intuition tells you things, but reality is a tricky one, and things can be conterintuitive. Plus strong feelings and convictions. Either way it would be good to talk about. To see if it's an actual good idea. Its good for people to bring multiviews to the conversation. Humans have evolved to use that mechanism in the head to defend there point of view and see holes in the others arguments. So i realized a few things. Im wait for people to look at things differently, but honestly people would have to fight against there own grain, which we dont do enough. We see what we want to, and believe what gets use by. Reality in my head alignes well. It's been game over for awhile now. Its only a waiting game a long one for sure lol some people have a strong reaction to this type of stuff right off the bat, and see it as just plan evil and never look into mulitview points, so you stay stuck and will never be open to seeing in new ways. The poltical things happening now are a living example of that.

To make it short: the last thing we need is a world of acritical, alienated, hyperdigitalized kids in a corporate suit walking the earth. This is not a age of info/dis information; it's an age of utter ignorance, as the two basic principales of philosophy and religión (all of them) thought us: that freedom is the mother of morals, and that mortality, and the acceptance of it, is what gives us the possibility of a meaning. It can be hard because everone on the internet thinks there right, and you can never win an argument. Fustrating lol im come back and read your comment again. Nowdays emotions run so high, we cant have a conversation or discussion. It's diffcult to know if where making the right choice , or if its right to go down a more complicated path, with great potential for good, but also greater draw backs and dark uses of these new technology. It complicates things. And know way are we gonna be able to see everthing. I agree scare stuff. And than you're taping into deep things like your immune system and disease. Materials that the body doesnt recognize as itsself so it attacks. Same can be said of are natural wiring it goes against it. Its terrible timing right now, but i can guarantee that we should have the discussion now, because there are great benefits, like greater health, greater capabilities, greater and deeper understanding of are selfs. But a darkside that is deeper too, and the world becomes more complicated, no more simple solutions, but deeper insights that may help with a path forward. If we dont discuss it now. It will creep up on everyone. And the darker and scarier things are provable to happen. So its kinda a responsibility to harm out the downsides now. Plus its kinda fun to imagine what could go wrong lol

As scary as it sounds, with technology advancing so quick this seems inevitable, we won’t be able to stop this.

You did not speak about the dangers of cybernetics technology, you did not touch on the future of genetic engineering and the possibilities therein, you did not discuss A.I. involvement with human development, you did not really even talk about technology though you did mention it... I don't really understand what the point of this short talk was or why the comments are praising you based on work you've done, which is basically all you talked about; your personal experiences, none of which had anything to do with transhumanism as a philosophical concept and the many branches of it...

Contemplating cat... I'm so glad I found your comment as I trawled through the endless acolytes blurbing on in acceptance to the nice guy. Everything you said was exactly what I was thinking too. This guy's hubris is always to the forefront and I feel that's terrible when you purport to be discussing the subject of transhumanism. I guess this is the world we live in, people pontificating to us who themselves had to Google a subject before presenting their ego. Glad there's some sane folks out there. 👍

Everyone should be excited for a transhumanist future. However, as a society, we should be aware of the double-edged nature of technology and should constantly advocate and push for technologies that benefit the majority, if not all, of humanity and not just the elite. Take time to actively research trends in technologies, donate money to groups that want to create technologies that will help the disabled.

@@nathanb5579 um no. I witnessed my aunt die from lung cancer last year and it was the most absolutely painful thing I’ve ever experienced. We are all destined to die some day if we don’t use technology to alter our biology. Whether that be upgrading our current biology or even removing ourselves from this organic flesh suit, I’m all for it. To say “Nah” yet at the same time use modern medicine if you get sick or get into an accident is hypocritical. If you stand by human nature, let yourself die the way nature destined you to die, please don’t use the same technology (medicine, biotech, tech in general) to prolong your life if you think we shouldn’t enhance our own lives for the better. I will not stand for “human nature” if all it imposes on us is suffering.

I’m advocating for a future with wellness, extreme longevity, and advanced biotechnology to expand our lifetimes for who knows how long. I like being alive. Just bc its “natural” to die, doesn’t make it right. Humans are a unique species because of our capability to think critically and recognize we are aware. If you don’t like that then go ahead and die when you’re older. I’m going to try my best not to. I don’t get why people romanticize death and growing old and frailer. I work in the ICU as an RN and every death has brought nothing but pain and suffering to my patients and their families. COVID, gunshot wounds, you name it. My patients have been in extreme amount of suffering and their families have grieved so hard they fainted. No, you can choose that fate. Im going to advocate for future technologies to enhance our primitive biology.
