In the 1920s, that substance was entirely legal and was even being used to help morphine addicts kick the habit.

I got the ambergris, the coke spoon and the pigeon trolley, but missed the rest. I like it better when I don't know it all.

Wow, these were all "I'll be darned"! The only one I knew was the immersion heater, those were seen occasionally in college dorms in the late 60's (at least that I saw when I went!)

They are on ebay now, I used to buy them, still have one, mine are 12v for use in a car to make a hot drink, they don't last long, they burn out pretty fast.

With reference to the gas streetlight the horizontal bar is for the lamp lighter to rest their ladder on. Love these old pieces of history, thanks for the compilation.

5:39 . The substance the spoon was used for was snuff. Snuff was primarily tobacco but often had cocaine mixed in various proportions. Both snuff and cocaine were legal until the early 20th century.

Yes, because these fools hadn't yet taken over making ridiculous rules with fines. We used to live by God's or Natures laws.

5:13 The sulfur compounds, responsible for the odors in onion and garlic bind more strongly to the steel of steel soap and are lifted off your hands. The steel is not imparting any odors to mask the scent. Since there are no “suds” it’s difficult to determine if you rubbed enough of your skin for long enough to take care of the odors.

The Steel "soap" bar doesent adding a steel "odor" on top. It's got Something to do with "chemical reaction" .

Right. We use a wide variety of steel kitchen utensils and cutlery. They don't smell at all.

4:12 Given the types of names, wondered if this plaque could alternatively have been from a specimen rose garden? One of our local heritage parks has something similar for their rosebushes, showing the varietal name & the root stocks it was hybridized from? Although theirs also have the rose-breeders' names.

Gay Song and Clever Queen are horses. The name Crittenden is also associated with horses. I can't find roses with that name.

I didn’t ever think about the spoon pendant being used for illegal substances. My great aunt used it for her snuff. She held by the dime part and the small side she dip in the snuff.

No one would walk off with it, more likely to always be with the phone. My aunt had one tied to her phone so she wouldn't risk breaking her nails when dialing.
