Everyone will probably say this but they did a live concert that was recorded in its entirety. It was called Stop Making Sense. Literally every track from that performance is pure gold. The artistry and energy is off the charts. You won’t regret watching. Burning Down The House, Life During Wartime, Girlfriend Is Better. The list is as long as the concert itself!
"Burning Down The House" is the top Talking Heads song that you should do for a classics reaction. And VERY IMPORTANT: Several members of TH (not the lead male singer) had a side project as the Tom Tom Club, whose 1981 minor hit "Genius of Love" was heavily sampled in Mariah's "Fantasy" & Latto's "Big Energy".

@@PlutoPlease, I forgot -- "Genius of Love" had a cool cartoon video when the song dropped in '81 -- it's the official video on YT: kzread.info/dash/bejne/k3eLpahqadG7mKQ.html
The song is about how so often life seems to just take over and take you to places you never thought you would go and aren't really sure how you got there by just letting the days go by.
Days go by, same as it ever was, like being endlessly carried along by a stream, but, once in a lifetime, you are struck by the realization of how unbelievably amazing it all is.
Listen, without writing a 3,000 word thesis about Talking Heads, just know that they are one of the most important bands of the modern rock era. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame unanimously in the first year they were eligible. Their first album came out in 1977, and they were inducted in 2002. That's 25 years, the time it takes to be nominated. They sold MILLIONS of albums. They were critical darlings and basically could do no wrong with just about everything that they did. The gentleman in this video is David Byrne, widely acknowledged as one of the greatest and most creatively innovative lead singers of all-time. The man is a genius. The rest of the band are all amazingly talented musicians-Jerry Harrison, Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz-and it is well known that they put up with a lot of David Byrne's mood swings and there were deep tensions within the group. If you watch Stop Making Sense, you can see first hand how incredible they were when they played live. It is considered one of the greatest live concert films of all time. There are a number of videos I can name off the top of my head that would be excellent for you to check out: Burning Down the House, Road To Nowhere, And She Was, Stay Up Late, Psycho Killer, Life During Wartime, Take Me To The River, Wild Wild Life, Love For Sale - this is just scratching the surface of how awesome they were.
David Byrne has a genius level IQ and it shows through his work with the Talking Heads.
I will still randomly tell people when they ask me how I’m doing. Same as it ever was, same as it ever was, Same as it ever was, look where my hand was. While tapping my forearm. David Byrne the lead singer and his wife are the only husband and wife that are band mates in two bands in all of music. This band is eclectic they’ve got some great tunes: Take Me to The River, Road To Nowhere, Wild Life, Burnin Down The House, and my favorite Psychokiller.
Talking heads created something different and made it huge🤘❤️
The unique dance moves for this video were choreographed by Toni Basil, who is a legend among dancers and choreographers. She’s worked with numerous other musicians to choreograph their videos and concerts, and she’s even starred in a few classic movies like “Easy Rider.” But the public at large will forever know her as the one-hit wonder singer of “Mickey.”

She was in that movie Head, with the Monkees
David Byrne wrote a song about his girlfriend who was tripping on psychedelics all the time called "And She Was". Also really unique. You must react to "Life during Wartime" from the Stop Making Sense Concert.
what makes the song great it has a funky beat but really the song is like a spiritual existential Reckoning.....
Talking Heads were part of the New York post punk scene around CBGBs and Max's Kansas City. This is a band, David Byrne is the guy in this video, he is the lead singer and main songwriter. If you want to see the whole band check out a video from Stop Making Sense. I would suggest their cover of Al Green's Take Me to the River.
Weird Al's "Dog eat Dog" was inspired by this song, but was not a direct parody
I love talking heads..
Vocals are multitracked. Artists will record their vocals, guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, etc. multiple times and layer them.
The Talking Heads are a rather large and deep Rabbit Hole to go down. Try watching the concert film "Stop Making Sense".
Go for "Road to nowhere" next. And you'll find the whole group appearing in the video. ;-)
Road to nonwhere and Nothing but flowers are also good tracks by them for you to give a listen.
Really glad you did the old MTV version over the live one. Talking heads are considered “Art Rock”. And to me the song is about life being mundane and like waking up one day and being like “how did I get here” 😱
I don't think you are supposed to understand what this song is about, it's more of a feeling than an expression.
Memphis Bleek and Jay-Z sampled this on "It's Alright" but I was familiar with Talking Heads Once In a Lifetime and my reaction to the sample was kinda like yours to the original lol.
Check out David Byrnes Broadway performance, you will totally dig it.
