What is the Relationship Between Calcifications and Breast Cancer?

Dr. Harness and Dr. Robert Smith of the American Cancer Society explain microcalcifications, which are often a concern for women as they show up as white spots on a mammogram. "Calcifications are normal in the breast," says Dr. Smith. "Generally most women will have at least some. They also tend to be associated with abnormalities and they tend to be associated with cancer, which is one of reasons why it is very important to evaluate their morphality." According to Dr. Smith, about 85% of calcification biopsies come back normal. Watch this video to learn more.

My wife's cancer treatment ended last year in July and mammogram held in Nov-21, which was normal. But mammogram of Nov-22 is showing scattered development of calcification in the area of lumpectomy surgery. 17-Nov is the date of Biopsy. Pls pray for normal results.

I am 72 with a family history of breast cancer. I wish that I could be treated like an individual without the family history impact. I am more than data and odds of.

I have to speak to a surgeon about my calcifications so it sounds like it’s “something “. Obviously they think it’s something that shouldn’t be ignored.

I have previous history of cancer with lumpectomy, radiation and chemo 19 years ago. Mammo just found cluster of calcifications at old tumor site. Could it possibly be benign?
