Hi guys. I took my Giant Stance E+ 2 2022 model and upgraded to a Fox 36 front suspension. Wow what a difference! Running on Scwalbe Mary's front and back. Drops, jumps, downhills, climbs, technical sections etc. Excellent all-rounder. I considered the new Giant Reign 2023 model but after the recent upgrade I am happy to keep the Stance. Thnx for great content

The best ever distance was 42 miles with 1963 meters of ascent . Giant Stance e+ pro 1 2019 with 625wh battery. Weight and temperature make a difference though, whilst doing the West Highland Way in late April and loaded up with luggage ( the bike weighed 31kg and I had a rucksack 9kg) Inverarnan to Kingshouse 33 miles and 1256m of ascent . All done in eco set at 75% assistance. I weigh about 90 kg in riding gear.

My very first run on my first emtbn (an Orbea Wild FS 10, 2022) was this spring. Me and my friend, he having a range extender, had a great trip in the forests surrounding Oslo, Norway. Got almost 75 km, had 8% left on the battery.

suspension design does matter as well as the sum of all the bike parts. but what matters most is having the right bike for the type of trails you ride.

My first emtb was an entry level first gen Levo. This would be considered a price point bike of the day. Only mods were adding a dropper and making it a mullet by adding a 29er up front. Served me well for five years without any upgrades. Loved this bike! The end of 2022 I bought a Levo Comp Alloy and before pedals went on, the fork and rear shock were upgraded as was the saddle, handle bars and stem. The old Levo got everything except the rear shock because it’s a different size. The summery is this: the old Levo is way better with wider handlebars, more front travel and new saddle. The new Levo is the most kick ass bike I have ever ridden! I have the confidence that it will suit me for over five years!

for myself i took my turbo levo from canmore to banff to johnstons canyon to calstle mountian and back on a 700 battery. when i began i had the power turn on so i can keep track of the info on the mission control app on distance and such but i did not engage any of the power modes yet. i only engaged the power modes when i got to a hill and about 1/3 of the way i engaged eco and sometimes trail or turbo. all said and done i got back and had like 1% battery left and distance was 108km. i had about 2 bars when i got back to banff and figured i had more then enough to get back so i put it in turbo and boosted all the way back because i didn't bring enough food for myself so i was so exhausted and out of energy.

Great show guys and interesting debate on the cheaper bikes. My issue with any emtb is longevity of motor and battery. Considering how many motors are replaced after only a couple of years that’s really poor.

Have to agree about f/s vs hardtail. My first emtb (at age 65) was a Trek Powerfly 7. Great spec and handling but my ageing back and wrists suffered badly, and I couldn’t keep up with my f/s mates. Now on a Giant Trance E+2 which I love.

Got to say I am a big fan of this channel, the videos are always well presented, full of useful information and they can be amusing also, so what's not to like, I recently bought a 2022 Giant Stance E + 1 29 ER, I was away from the scene for 10 years due to having 3 operations on discs in my back, previously I visited most the major trails in Scotland as well as doing the West Highland Way 3 times on mountain bike, which is no mean feat, Buying the stance e bike gave me a chance to get back out riding again, no longer am I knackered when I get to the top of a section, it makes a very big difference to me, I was thinking of upgrading to a trance or reign.. but your video made me realise that my stance is adequate for what I do, its just a big mind trip buying a more expensive bike, especially when the one you have can cope with what you do.. a more expensive bike isn't generally going to make you a better rider, a bit like a while ago when I bought all new Hardy fishing equipment, the fish don't know or care what your equipment cost, so that does not make you a better angler , same with bikes.. if you can ride what you want with what you have, no need to upgrade, a lot of fishing equipment is designed to catch fishermen not fish.. I suspect its similar with e bikes and e bike manufacturers 😅

I rode 90.59 miles and 3,570ft of Elevation on one 500 battery on a Cube Reaction SL hard tail with Bosch gen 3 motor. I'd used battery management and turned the power off when I could and used one bar at 63 miles. This was doing Covid. I actually ran out of light or I would of done 100 miles as I'd finished with 2 bars left. The reason why I had ran out of light was because I came across a fella who had a diabetic fit. It took 2 hours for the ambulance to arrive and that made me behind on time. My Strava is Mark "Bootsy" Graham and my ride is 31st August 2020.

I have just had my 12 speed hyper glide cassette and shadow+ derailleur come to the end of their natural life. My first criteria at the moment is the battery cause i dont want to be on adventure with battery anxiety and also lifespan of bigger battery is longer. I think 630 wh batteries are going out of style, i am only looking for a bike that has a minimum of 750 wh or more. i love the new giant 800 wh battery with only 300 grams more than 625 wh. big step forward.

I managed 45km at the Forest of Dean trail center on a Wyte 160-e with the Bosch CX, blue 70%, 20% purple turbo 5% and eco 5%. With one orange bar left of battery. It was my first time on a full power, full suspension e-bike, having tried a cube hard tail a couple of years ago. My main takeaway is it is way too much weight at 25kg. I’ll be buying a lightweight sub 18kg e-bike for sure.

Having had a Cube hard-tail & now a TM 750 140 the full-suspension is so much better and opened up so many more routes, I could never see myself riding a hard-tail again to be bounced all over the place whilst having to replace my fillings all of the time. However, I am feeling that the 24kg is a beast to lug over fences and gates so was wondering whether a lighter bike might be the answer, although I enjoy the battery/range I get from my 750wh battery. What are peoples thoughts on light-weight vs loss of range. I am not hard-core down-hill, enjoying rough-tracks across the highlands more type of thing.

$$$$ Question - should I snag an 'On-Sale' ebike with Shimano's EP-800 motor, or wait to get one at full price for the EP-801 motor? Not sure if all 801's have autoshift and shift while coasting, or do they all have it? Is the 801 that much of a thing most people will end up wishing for in the future, or is it just a 'use it a few times and forget about it' feature? Can the 800 be updated via programming to do the tricks the 801 can do?, or is the 801 a completely new design? I'm zeroing in on my first e-mtb purchase and prices are very good on 2022 model year bikes nowadays in the States.

I might have 3K+ into a Bafang hardtail, built from the frame up. Now the Vitus or Giant might be all around better bikes, but they don’t have a throttle... I’m 71 and really need the rest a gas pedal gives me, more so when it’s crazy hot out. Also my local trails I’m doomed to ride ‘cause I’ve no drivers license, do not require a F/S bike. In fact they kill the challenge. Everything in life is a compromise, more or less...BUT growing that much older, a full sus bike may be in my future. I have a donor waiting in the wings....

I think all the bikes on EMBN are what is legally called a "pedelec" here and those are not allowed to have a throttle (max. 250w, may only assist, max. 25kmh). For anything above that you need a drivers licence and insurance in most European countries.

I dont see why you would limit yourself to shorter travel bikes when the motor compensates for the additional travel compared to manually riding uphill where you may want to have something with less travel. I agree that you pick something based on where you live on a normal bike but the ebike already weighs a heap and does most of the work for you uphill so there are less downsides to more travel.

Factory produced brand name 'complete' e-bikes will always have a horrible price to performance ratio. The only way to go is to build your own. You dont have to deal with silly 'regulated' power modes. You know every single part intimately for maintenance and reputability. It's easier than you think. Improve yourself, learn a new skill and build the e-mtb you really want (not what a factory thinks you should have) for far less than you would pay for an off the shelf unit.

E Bikes are just not worth it …There well over priced and the reliability of them is a joke …I’ve got a Kenevo and love it ….but they really do rip you off …
