Wow he knows more about our Kapampangan culture than most of Kapampangan. Pampanga Kingdom used to expand along the costline of Luzon. The Spaniards intentionally divided the kingdom in different provinces. This is the reason why the Pampangans consider themselves as Royalty and has so much pride comparable to the Germans and East Asians. We are proud people and that will make us a proud contributing Filipino and international Citizens . You will see and just watch once Clark City is up and running :) We never ever consider ourselves inferior to anyone else. But we never want to look down on other people in short we are just silly people , Because of our boastfulness at some point we need to back it up that is why we excel in things we want to achieve. LOL

Pampanga has preserved their pre-colonial script better than any ethnicity or province in the Philippines.

i really like kapampangan. both the people and the language. they have their own language but they are not boasting it and they are not using it to make other filipinos feel inferior. they will speak tagalog if they are talking to non-kampampangan people so they will understand each other. i'm from bicol and i'm fascinated by different languages and dialects in my country.

@@firthm2 yess. they also sound so foreign. i hope i can see more contents about other ph languages and dialects in the future. especially the languages in northern luzon, since they have a limited exposure in the media. i am really curious about ivatan. kadakul kaya misconception about dialects ang languages. paguna san taw, tagalog lang ang mga nakaistar sa luzon (but i love tagalog tho, no hate). just want other people to be aware of other tribes and groups here in ph. thank you!

Every single thing that you said in your description is so true. Why people do not bother to speak it, study it, and teach it to their kids I will never understand. I live overseas and have not even visited in decades, yet my family and I still speak it proudly. That you took the time to learn our language when so many Capampangans do not bother to brought a great smile to me and my family. God help you and keep you.

Thank you for your comment. Yes, it makes me sad all the Kapampangan families who do not speak Kapampangan to their children. They mostly speak Tagalog. Do they not realize that if they spoke Kapampangan to their kids, their kids would still learn Tagalog from school and TV? If the parents spoke Kapampangan to their kids, then the kids would grow up to know both languages. But if the parents mostly speak Tagalog to their kids, then their kids will only be good at Tagalog, and not be able to speak Kapampangan fluently. Sayang.

Love All Languages Within languages one can find special aspects and views on life and culture that often are not present in other languages. This diversity should be preserved and people should be aware of this; the more languages one knows, the better. This diversity in the world enriches us all. I often remind Filipinos, for instance, of how the use of the Spanish language disappeared for the most part in the Philippines. Keep on doing what you do. May you continue inspire many more.

@@firthm2 I just read that Kapampangan is not a dialect of Tagalog, which is spoken in the rest of Central Luzon. The two languages are distantly related and mutually unintelligible. My father is kapampangan & Ilocano, while my mother is visayan, speaking ilonggo & cebuano. They both speak Tagalog & Spanish as well. Growing up with all these languages & dialects, I never found Kapampangan attractive to listen to or to speak, especially when compared to Ilonggo and Cebuano. That said, I find the history & the realization that Kapampangan is a language and not a dialect to be very intriguing, especially their unique script. Your video has definitely made me more interested in learning more about the Kapampangan history.

Let it be known: Kapampangan is not a dialect. It is a language all on its own, not a derivative of Tagalog. Capampangan is a language with its own script or orthography, and writing system,known as Kulitan, one of the indigenous suyat writing system in the Philippines. The script is Abugida, goes all the way back to the 1600s,at least.

Most Kapampangans live in Pampanga and southern Tarlac. However, there are also some Kapampangan speakers in the neighbouring provinces of Bataan, Nueva Ecija, Zambales, and Bulacan, especially the border areas. I have personally met some Kapampangans from Bulacan, Bataan, and Zambales. Before, there were many Kapampangans living in those places, but their number has declined.

Thanks for sharing; I am not familiar with the Banjar language. Cognates are to be expected considering Banjar and Kapampangan are both Austronesian languages. What I find interesting though is how cognates can jump geographically. For example, when I travelled to Bali, I discovered more similar cognates between Balinese and Ilokano compared to Balinese and Cebuano, even though the Ilokano-speaking region (Ilocos) is further from Bali than the Cebuano-speaking region. Similarly, it is interesting that those food-themed words in Banjar are closer to Kapampangan food words than Tagalog food terms, despite the Kapampangan region and Tagalog region being right next to each other. Are you studying/researching the Banjar language?

LoL tagalog and other language at phili.. sure had similarity with indonesian and other local indonesia language.. the influence of srivijaya and majapahit on the past also makes language exchange to phili region, i herd some javanese language had few word on kapampangan..

Geographically looking at map of Manila Bay you'll observe that there was strong probability people in past to stay first along near coastline with river water. Pampangga lies far deeper when one enters the bay. Cavite, Manila area, up to farthest inner part of Laguna, Binangonan, Tanay, etc could be the earliest settlement. I just wish to share my observations. Because for me, Kapampangan was just the old Tagalog that developed with some little distortion. This thought came to me when I was very young, living along Rosario, Tanza coastline area. Then there were still many Lola that naturally used nganga, or smokes cigar/ cigarrettes without filters, stuck in either side of mouth. For many reasons they would naturally invert thier smokes with the light inside the mouth. This Cavitena Lolas were of course talking/ communicating in Tagalog/ Cavite dialect. But as a child, what you can hear when your ears got accustomed was Kapampangan dialect. But probably it was not cigar yet but rather nga-nga was in use when Kapampangan speaking ways started. Why don't you people try it even with just your finger in your mouth, or a ballpen, then talk Cavitena/ old Tagalog. Guess through time in past, those next and following generation with the Lolas kept that way of speaking and that developed in different way.

Is this even Kapampangan? The only word I recognize as Kapampangan is tete which is bridge. I can somewhat decipher this as "I caught the ball under the bridge." which is "Asapu ke ing bola keng lalam ning tete."

Yeah there are similarities. Philippine languages, Malaysian languages, and Indonesian languages are all part of the Austronesian Language Family, hence they have similarities in vocabulary, grammar, and phonology.

I love people who are proud of their native language. Kapampangan is awesome and unique!

Actually, Kapampangan is a LANGUAGE, not a dialect. You did not read the explanation in the video description... **People incorrectly call Kapampangan a “dialect”, because of misconceptions and misinformation taught in schools. Many teachers tell their students that anything spoken in a province outside Metro Manila is a “dialect”, but this is not true. They are teaching an outdated an inaccurate definition of a dialect. Kapampangan is a LANGUAGE, one of 170+ LANGUAGES in the Philippines.** Dialect = accent Language = system of communication between a group of people (e.g. Kapampangans) Therefore, Kapampangan is a language. The different accents of Kapampangan are its dialects.

Languages and dialects are defined according to their intelligibility. When Ilocanos speak their language, hardly Kapampangans understand and vice-versa. A very good example of a dialect is between Batangas Tagalog and Bulacan Tagalog. Or, for that matter, Filipino and Tagalog. Major tongues in the Philippines are languages because unintelligible by others who have limited notions thereof. It is a misnomer to call them dialects.
