Or people who want their hands on the first pascal GPUs without having to wait weeks/months for AIB partners to churn out the best they can engineer, which _will_ take a while. Just because not everyone chooses to wait 5 years to upgrade to the next budget-tier like most AMD fanboys (which is why the company is failing to begin with) doesn't make them mindless. See, I can be blanketly insulting too.

+SpurnOfHumanity They are putting their card up against the board partners. They feel their cooler is very capable, and it seems so based on that 67 degrees overclocked. I would expect to see the Asus/EVGA/MSI cards come in around $650-$700. We have always dismissed the reference cards as inferior, it seems like nVidia wants to abolish that notion and make "their" card a worthwhile option.

+Daniel Björs Pretty much. If you're on a budget, you can most likely wait the time until other companies make their own 1070's/1080's. If you have the time to wait, then it will probably be worth it to wait. If you don't have the time, have the extra $100, and want the card as soon as it launches, then go ahead and get it, because either way its still a pretty damn good deal for how good the card is.

Honestly since the 970 is about $50 cheaper, its definitely worth it to spend the small amount of extra cash for the amount of extra performance you're getting. I mean really its .5 TFlops less than a titan X, which is almost $700 more.

The only problem I have with nvidia reference designs, is that after a while the fins under the window fill with dust, and it looks terrible. Sure you could take apart the whole card and clean it out, but that's so much work, when pretty much all custom coolers can be fairly easily cleaned with canned air and nothing else. Other than that, I like reference designs, and the new design looks pretty slick.

Maybe on 27 May, we only get the Founders Edition. That would mean the 100$ are a kind of price premium for early adopters until we get the cards from the board partners later. This would also fit the problem, that the GDDR5X-production is not fully engaged yet and they want to keep the request low to not create a shortage in stock...

  • @-rayzer--wolf-6474
    @-rayzer--wolf-64748 жыл бұрын

isn't this also a way of controlling the price celling on the base card? ie. if i can always get a 1080 for $699 from nvidia directly then i have market expectations from divergent models of the same and or similar cards from the board partners, if nvidia says they're going to stay in the space at this price regardless of if they make any direct to consumer business then price inflation would theoretically stay within a range competitive to this base model?

This would help them to look into the various situations and improve whenever, wherever required.

I like what it does structurally to the market. It is also helpful for them if they want to build a more normal retail presence. I think it would be a great idea to be able to order custom colored "Founder's Edition" cards so that the higher price would make sense. This way you could truly make your card custom without having to mod it yourself for something like an odd color-scheme. Like they could have some sort of configurator on their site (like dbrand for example) where you could see what the card you're getting looks like. This way it would make sense to pay extra for something custom.

  • @iamkailong

+Manuel Saavedra have you actually watch the video and understand what is reference cooler? the founder edition is nvidia's reference card, and reference card have the worst cooler, like always thats why those partners' own design card are usually a little bit more expensive than reference, for the better cooling and overclock ability this time nvidia have there own reference card price higher, the partners can raise the price of their reference card and be still competitive against nvidia's card, that's why i am afraid for example, nvidia's gtx 1080 reference card is suggested to sell at 599, and founder's edition is sell at $699, so the partners can sell their card reference at $679, still cheaper than nvidia's, and they can even ramp up the performance and sell that card even higher than founders edition, like $729 and still offering more than nvidia's card

For those asking "what is the $599 card?"... the answer is "there wont be". well not for awhile at least. In my opinion it's a coy way for Nvidia to announce to there vendors that they"re jacking up prices across the board on 1080/1070 OEM orders. Sure..EVGA, ASUS, MSI, etc. can sell them for $599, but they would be insane doing so upon paying the new (higher than usual) price, Nvidia will charge aftermarket manufacturers for the OEM base component. Nvidia will now sell their cards for $599, undercutting everyone else that will need to sell these cards at higher prices after applying their typical custom designs. I imagine the first wave of custom cards will cost between $650-$700, making the Nvidia's Founder's edition attractive to more than just a few.

PNY offer a lifetime waranty if you regist the card. I ask you. Do you think founders edition ''advantage'' counters the lifetime waranty of PNY's versions?

I was surprised by the performance and pricing on 1070 since, that makes pretty must all previous cards like my GTX 970 useless. Now I just have to find a way to obtain one.
