I first read this when I was fourteen, it was a gift from a friend. I loved it! Many years later, I read that the flood story was found along with other clay tablets from the royal library and taken back to England in a wheelbarrow. They didn’t know what it was at the time. Later, a scholar read the tablet with the flood story, but it was broken, so unfinished. The man, frustrated, went back to the dig site - and actually found the rest of it! How bizarre is that!

I LOVED this story when I was in school. We were forced to read a portion of it and I read whatever was available on it. The internet was in its early days back then, so it was more difficult finding it online, but my local library had the entire text available. I made it my end of the year project too, it was one of the few times I enjoyed reading a text I was originally forced to.

It’s important to note that the epic of Gilgamesh was written before Genesis, and that it was likely an inspiration for Genesis. As it was an oral story, and so likely moved across the Middle East in this way.

  • @The_True_

Gilgamesh and his created companion fall into the category of "mighty men of old" in Genesis, where it is stated that fallen angels bred with women, which led to nephalim offspring. Paul later shows that what the pagan world sacrificed to as god's were in fact fallen angels, so it's not a surprise to see both similarities and distortion between pagan myth and the biblical records. Both have supernatural eyewitnesses, but only one is a true and faithful witness, since the devil is the father of all lies, as are his minions.

From "Genesis flood narrative - wikipedia": Scholars believe that the flood myth originated in Mesopotamia during the Old Babylonian Period (c.1880-1595 BCE) and reached Syro-Palestine in the latter half of the 2nd millennium BCE.[20] Extant texts show three distinct versions, the Sumerian Epic of Ziusudra, (the oldest, found in very fragmentary form on a single tablet dating from about 1600 BCE, although the story itself is older), and as episodes in two Akkadian language epics, the Atrahasis and the Epic of Gilgamesh.[21] The name of the hero, according to the version concerned, was Ziusudra, Atrahasis, or Utnapishtim, all of which are variations of each other, and it is just possible that an abbreviation of Utnapishtim/Utna'ishtim as "na'ish" was pronounced "Noah" in Palestine.

haha you seriously need to read more books if you have never heard gilgamesh's name outside of fate. Fate's a great anime, I still remember when I saw gilgamesh in it for the first time, it was soo amazing, like this is a historical figure I've heard of since childhood, it was awesome, Gilgamesh isn't as famous as maybe arthur, alexander, merlin etc because he is a story literally triple in old in time than the other, This poem is the oldest survivng piece of literature from a civilization as old as the indus valley, its soo fascinating that even in the nasu verse Gilgamesh is sooo op because he is literally the oldest of every single one of them

@eksprolek2924 I'm sure you're right. These few billions of Christians past and present are just gullible to believe the Bible even though it has a few hundred prophecies that came to pass making it supernatural in nature. Besides all that you probably have it figured out bc Richard Dawkins told you and his word is more solid than gospel. He has a British accent so he's obviously smarter than Moses or Isaiah. How did you become so brilliant beyond measure that you figured it all out without even needing to understand the Bible? Steven Hawkings tell you? Or drool it on his wheelchair and you interpreted it? Either way will you write a new Bible for us to follow? Seeing g as you've clearly debunked ours?
