What is the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA)?
As the internet has matured, legislation has played an increasingly important role in determining what ends up online. An important piece of early internet copyright legislation is the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), passed in 1998. The DMCA is known for several provisions. One criminalizes attempts to circumvent digital rights management (DRM) access control measures. Another provides a mechanism-known as a takedown notice-allowing copyright owners to request that copyrighted content made available illegally online be removed. The DMCA also provides safe harbor provisions exempting websites and internet service providers from liability if their users post copyrighted material. The DMCA has been criticized repeatedly since its inception, mainly by groups concerned with its chilling effects on consumer freedoms, competition, and free speech.

The way I see DMCA, it was meant to actually help people but all it's accomplished is giving big labels and corporations a way to bypass fair use.

hi bro let me ask you that. 1. lets say i got a portal community such as deviantart or something and someone upload image is not own with no permission . when he sign up he decler he wont and confirm he will not violet the rules bala bla bla. so can the dmca take down my site ? or there is a procedure steps i need to follow to remove the "infected" content , or even block user? any demands from dmca for plugin to wordpress to assure content control , so they\other can submit url and report it?

I have a question. Can Fan-art be flagged or lawfully removed by DMCA even if I drew everything by hand? I make pop art characters into zombies and skulls. I change the color, the clothing, make my own version.

I think that in this case, you are the content creator and have full copyright on your version of the content, however you may have to mention the original content that inspired your work. Same kind of laws that work on covers. Did you get a clear answer since you posted this? I'd be curious to know :)

I just look up Google imagines that copyright comes up, I got no Clue on wtf going on ? I got a few comic and anime art on my photo gallery , I use for my family and friends numbers on my phone beyond weird

I have a simple question: This website moridim.tv in Israel is selling movies and series that are available to download. To purchase any of the downloads the user is forwarded to this www.nitrobit.net based in the UK where can make the payment. www.nitrobit.net on their website claims that its acting according to the DMCA terms. Are this websites respecting the copyright laws ? I don't think their payment any copyright rights.
