Perfect, thank you doctor. Is there a point where they couldn't do an onlay?

Most patients nowadays don’t research about dental materials used for full crowns, onlays and inlays, they just allow the Dentist to choose for them. Aesthetics is the most important thing in dentistry today. My Dentist just called me to tell she is going to place a crown on # 32 molar to align it straight to make space for dental implants. I message her back and ask if she could do a type 3 gold onlay instead of a full crown. I understand that less tooth have to be removed with partial and full cast gold crowns?

Onlay and crown are the same cost... the crown covers the whole tooth while the onlay only covers the top of the tooth

They are similiar in price, the onlay is slightly cheaper but yes it's stupid that it's almost the same price for half the work.

so why would everyone not just get a crown if they are the same cost? you will never have a problem with that tooth again if you get a crown right? not so with an onlay correct? you could still have that tooth chip or crack or get a cavity right?

@@wasatchm crowns don't last forever, they can last a longtime but not forever and it requires shaving down healthy enamel off the tooth for a good fit so in that case an onlay is more conservative however it don't typically last as long from what I heard so its debatable

Here in UK A Crown is £200 on the NHS & a onlay crown on is £500.

I don’t think they last as long a crown
