What is the Christian Influence on the Irish Goddess Morrigan? - Lora O'Brien - Morrigan Academy

Is the Mórrígan calling you? Get your Free PDF Guide and find out! - www.morrigan.academy/guide
In this video, Lora O'Brien explores the ways in which people project their understanding of a Christian God and Christian values onto the Irish goddess Morrigan. They discuss the blending of Christian perspectives with the ancient Irish pantheon, the impact of Christian colonisation on Irish traditions, and the limitations of Christian interpretations. The importance of recognising the integrity of the Morrigan within the pre-Christian Irish religious framework, and the complex ways in which cultures reinterpret and assimilate deities over time, are emphasised. Watch this video to gain a deeper understanding of the Morrigan from an Irish perspective, and the influence of Christianity on Irish mythology. "The courses at the Irish Pagan School offer an in-depth approach to Irish paganism that is based on genuine history and folklore. There is so much here for curious learners of all levels to gain knowledge and insight on their spiritual paths while avoiding the misinformation that is sadly common in popular modern paganism. I have benefited greatly from the classes and look forward to taking more."

Thank you Lora. This was spot in in my quest to comprehend what exactly should I do vis a vis The Morrigan. Most especially it sends me back to the Mother Mary (the Theotokos or God Bearer)as I have a deep mother wound from growing up in an abusive sociopathic narcissist -mom household. But I do feel like the Morrigan, the Dagda and Brigid have work for me as well. I'm quite ill today so I'm not making a lot of sense. But I feel like a seed cracked open with this video. Go raibh míle maith agat! lan!!

Thank you. I really needed this. I struggle sometimes with trying to get beyond the Christian moral binary and spiritual transcendentalism (i.e. the supremacy of a single deity over the others) when studying the old gods. I also really appreciate the point that a god like the Morrigan isn't just representative of "some archetypal need being met" which I agree is overly simplistic.

Thank you so much for this Lora! I always love watching your videos and interacting through instagram! So the interesting part was about how people see An Mórrígan as a mother figure. I find it intriguing because I see her as a mother figure but not what people typically think. I see her more of like a foster mother, like being a warrior training under her and enduring her tough love but only because she is trying to help. And I think thats what made me really love and appreciate her. I always had a wonderful relationship with my mom, and even though my mom is definitely nurturing she has this sort of tough love like An Mórrígan, except An Mórrígan is a lot more tough love, and blunt, and is always ready for me to get to work. It’s so interesting how people have seen her as this hyper feminine goddess but in reality she is very much a masculine goddess. Not that she can’t be feminine and whatnot, but she definitely has a more analytical mind when interacting with her. Thank for you educating on this!

How are you in a country that was resolutely Catholic for over a thousand years and have a low church Protestant understanding?
