The best painting base should consist of two closed iron doors. You will need a lever to get in instead of walking through and nobody could figure it out on accident. Bonus points if you lift it up a bit to decrease suspicion.

Here's another way: In a snowy biome, dig straight down, use some scaffolding to get back up, get a snow blanket (or whatever it's called,) sneak and place it, and now whenever you sneak on where you placed it, you can get into your base. If it's somewhere open, you might need something to remind you of where the base is, though. Also, keep the scaffolding there, it won't work otherwise.

I have a better one, but works only is a biome with snow. So first, find a nice spot for your base in a snowy biome. Dig at least 25 blocks deep underground, since another player can only hear sounds from 25 blocks away. That's where your base will be centered. Fill up the hole with scaffolding and cover it at the surface with snow. (No, not snow block) Boom. Done. Now all you need to do is crouch when on the snow covered scaffolding, and voila. Have fun playing!
