Oh and maybe a long ruler-24”. Those are the ones that always slip on me.

What’s the point of putting it on a mat, without fabric?/ the whole idea is on fabric to be non slip.

Very interesting! Thanks for doing this 'study' of all those products! I also enjoyed hearing your assessment of the whole grippy vs slightly grippy topic. I thought I would always want grippy but you made a good point about wanting grip when you want it, but not otherwise. I'm an engineer by trade so appreciate the scientific nature of your tests. 😊 Great experimenting video!

Thanks for the comparison. I love the Invisaline product for my rulers! It grips on fabrics nicely & when you cut on a fold the fabric cuts nice & straight with no wonky curve in the fabrics, great product Invisaline. I need to your Glow ruler!

I've used several of these, but the one that has worked the best for me is the Handi Grip strips. A little rougher to the fingertips than the silicone feeling ones, but well worth it for how it performs. I use it on both my cutting rulers and my quilting rulers. Highly recommend it!

I have used the Guidelines Grip Strips and found that they tend to fall off the rulers after a short time, which was disappointing. Found this video very informative. Thanks!

@@CarolinaMoore I found the same thing. They tend to start ungripping at the ends and when you stick them back down they don't stay put for long. I even tried trimming them down...and down, and down, to get more life out of them before ripping them off and trashing the lot of them.

I appreciate that you did this, I learned about some products I didn't even know existed. I do wonder though why you didn't compare performance on fabric since that's all that really matters. Not sure how to apply your observations on other surfaces.

I understand. I didn't have a fabric application in mind for these rulers. And for me, the clarity on the Glow rulers is what drove me to do the video. 🥰

I've used the center or donut holes on smaller rulers. Works great

About a month ago I purchased some grippy kind of dots at Joann's. I don't remember the brand and I already threw the packaging away. They are about 3/8 to 1/2 inch wide clear cirlcles and they are a little thick. I put them on my 6 x 24 quilt ruler and my 9.5 in square. I HATE THEM! They move my fabric off my grid lines before I even get to cut. It drives me absolutely nuts! Takes 3x as long to measure and cut with them on, but if I don't, then my ruler moves as I'm cutting- so its a toss up on what is more aggrivating. I think there is definately a sweet spot when it comes to how much grip is enough but not too much. Your video made me very interested in the invisigrip you tried last! When I buy my new Carolina Moore 24 inch glow ruler this summer, I'll be sure to get some! 😉

The thickest of all the materials I tried was the strips on the edges. The thinnest was the spray... so there are lots of options. I will have to do a follow up video where I try all these on fabric. I'm going to need to come up with a project where it makes sense for me to cut fabric with these sized rulers... 🤔

Yay!! I love that there are so many great solutions out there, so we can each pick our favorite! Every one of these 11 solutions worked as a ruler gripper. Which is part of why I showed the process for all of them, instead of trying them off camera and then doing a short video sharing my favorite. I want each quilter to have as much information as possible to pick their own favorite. 🥰

I know this is not traditional but i found cheep medical tape with a cores on the top works GREAT. and can remove completely. Ps i am saving up for a light up ruler i love that idea for my mom with eye problems. Thanks for reading my comment😊

I really wish you would have shown these using some fabric. I’ve used a couple of these products and the difference with fabric is important and the level that it might cause the ruler to be lifted off the fabric before cutting is also important.

I've not used many grippy products in the past, so this was new to me ... I still have all these rulers, so I'll be working on a follow-up video with fabric. 🥰

I would like to see how they work cutting on top of fabric, what do you think about using them cutting some fabric? To me that would be a really good test. I would trust you to do it off camera and just tell me the results. I would even send you a yard of fabric to cut up if you wanted me to. I am 70 and I just don't have the hand strength I did when I was younger to hold the ruler in place. Currently my only option seems to be using a hand weight on the end of a long ruler when cutting longer peices of material. I also now wear a glove on the hand holding the ruler incase I slip while cutting! I just couldn't afford a big cut. I even wear the ones for the kitchen when using a gradder or mandolin when slicing. I do appreciate you doing this video, It must have been very expensive for you but for this test it seams they were all the same as far as not slipping.

I do plan to do an update on fabric. I have a relationship with Art Gallery Fwbrics, so I have no shortage of fabric - though it was very kind of you to offer. Have you looked into the Sew Tites cutting mat? I did a review video, but honestly, it didn't do the ruler and mat justice. Much easier to use than I show in the video. And rhe magnets help to hold down the fabric, reducing wrist and hand strain. The only downside is that it is expensive.

Thanks for your scientific demo. Not of caution: on some rulers, alcohol may remove the markings on your rulers. Ask me how I know!

Oh no!! That is no good at all! 😭

I use invis grip and it is not necessay to cover the entire ruler. Depending on the size of the ruler I just add 2 strips (that way you are not covering the hole). I was surprised on how long it stays on which is a long time.

The invigrip pulled off my lines and numbers when I tried to remove it. Ruined my ruler😢.

My invisigrip pealed up after only one day so it wouldn't slide on the fabric any longer.

I'd be concerned that those sandpaper strips could potentially scratch the cutting mats or remove the marking from them as well as harming the rulers. When I first started sewing eons ago, I used Fiskars rulers because of the price. As I gained experience I did what so many of us do and started trying different brands...meaning I now own way too many rulers and none of them really worked best. Then I came across QuiltCut Ultragrid rulers. They're made in the USA and have this unique ability to cling to the fabric so I don't really need the products from this video anymore. Some fabrics are "more slickery" than others (I sew quilts, bags, and garments) so I'll put an antique sad iron as a weight on the ruler to help out for that.

I wonder if Hugo tape would work, hmmm??

Totally understand! I still have all the rulers, with their grippy on them... I just need to come up with a reason I'd be using these to cut fabric... probably squaring up a bunch of HSTs? Need to get sewing...

Interesting, but a better demo would have been showing how it works on fabric.
