    That's what I was wondering too, may not be a jeweler, but I've read and watched on battery replacement do's and dont's to prolong the longevity. Replaced my G-shock G9000 twice and Casio AE1000 once, tested them both on swimming and beaches, they're still a tough go and haven't experienced fogging so far. To your standpoint Sir from experience, any factors that could cause the fogging? Despite being careful in bettery replacement? And what do you mean by applying the sealer, is it the grease for the o-ring?

  • @Osiedlowy_Platacz

    @Osiedlowy_Platacz

    @@guandasin3099 he meant applying a little lube on the seal to keep it wet - it prevents it from breaking. Oxygen kills rubber slowly. It can be silicon oil for example. A watch gets foggy when it lost its waterproofness. It means, that water somehow gets inside and then vaporizes and stays on the crystal. It usually means faulty seal at the bottom.

    Im a watch guy and an enlisted Soldier, so I LOVED this video. I wear an analog automatic Seiko diver (not Rolex, don’t have a cool uncle) on a OD Green NATO strap. This is a good combination because bracelets = flex and some 1SG/commanders will say they are distracting from the uniform (in the conventional army), and the NATO strap retains your watch if a spring bar fails during training/operations. I’m a combat medic so the analog hands and rotating bezel help with heart rates and timing. Divers were the go to historically before the g shock and Timex Ironman watches. A bezel is also easier to operate than buttons when you lose the fine motor skills during high stress. I also use a Garmin watch strictly for workouts!

    I'm a watch guy too. I started off enlisted as a Medic as well. I broke ~3 of the PX Casios that were 15 dollars or so in my first few years of service. Got tired of destroying watches, so I got a G-Shock Aviator. That worked well, but I didn't like the plastic look. Once I crossed over into The Dark Side and commissioned I upgraded to a Citizen Eco-Drive Field Watch and wore that for a couple years, and that's what really got me into watches, and I went deep. Now, I have a Baltic Aquascaphe Skin Diver for any maritime operations, and a Vario WW1 Trench Watch for my daily/field wear, and the Vario Medic's Watch just for the heritage.

    I got something for fine Japanese timepieces. Gran Seiko has such a elegant and simplicity that's unrivaled in my eyes. G-Shocks are great field pieces. But Rolex has a special place that can make the difference between survival even in deep cover. When everything fails and you need a favor or money, your genuine Rolex can be traded for emergencies in your worst nightmare scenario. That's a powerful tool that can change your bleek situation to possible evacuation process when operations are... forced audible.

    Former ranger here, i just wanna say that you can do a lot in your career in just a regular infantry unit. Sometimes Ranger/SF gets very hyped up and all both are is a better funded, faster supplied infantry platoon. Dont forget that. And a lot of missions will be in support of regular combat battalions/brigades. BUT ALWAYS shoot for the stars, so you land on the moon. And if anything, at least you make it into space. Some people will say, “dont be superman, or theyll always expect superman”.But be superman, be your best. Ranger is awesome, but it wont always be your permanent duty station if you do 20. And ive seen BCTs at say, 3ID, wih scout sections, sniper platoons, special missions platoons, and some pretty well trained, geared battalions(2nd bat 101st ABN another example). Medics are bad ass too, and so are forward observers. No broken dreams. Ive also seen a Forward Observer E4 become a O2 Apache pilot in his career. The army is an amazing place all over. Good luck and train hard. War doesnt care who or what you are in the end and we are all the same team.

    Interesting - I graduated the Special Forces Qualification Course in the summer of 1975. The first thing my Team Sergeant told me was I had to have within a year a Star Sapphire Ring and a Rolex. Fortunately, a TDY to Korea made acquisition of both affordable. I went on to spend 22-years in Special Forces and never once did I wear my Rolex into the field. In fact, I never saw a single Rolex on anyone's arm in the field. My first field watch was a simple mechanical, analog face watch that had the best luminous hands on a watch I'd ever seen. In the PX for less than $50 and it stayed with me through that career and my second. My 24-yr old daughter has it and enjoys occasionally wearing it to work. She enjoys saying it was a watch her Dad wore in the military. I did eventually move to a Casio G-Shock GW-6900-1. Lightweight, solar charged, simple yet efficient, no bluetooth, no music, alerts, texts, nothing. As for a compass, I wore, on my other arm, a nice wrist Silva compass. Trivia question - what was the first Hybrid watch and who made it famous?

    when you change a battery the trick is having a bright like like hologen to heat the watch and the area you are working, let it get hot and the area hot before you open it, keep it hot under the lamp and change battery then place it under lamp for a minute case back and all then put it back together properly and it will never get foggy, you have removed all moister to zero humidity under the lamp and when the watch cools it will be vacuum sealed. This is how the pros do it. true pros not some watch vender

The Tactic Delta has a special feature in it that disables all signal/location data which they call Stealth mode. SSO hasn't reported whether it's authorized but Garmin stated it was specifically designed to used in secure environments. Should be interesting to see if that holds up.

    He's talking shit, you can't compare a Rolex for some $10k with cheap watches. If you compare your present with brands like Omega, Breitling, TAG Heuer, Glashütte and you can spend some $1000 or some $100 K for an for a watch. But don't forget, one needs an watch for some 100 dollars and other need a watch to push their self-confidence. It's da same cars.

    I am no army guy, but I love outdoors and swimming. Both G-Shock and Pro-Trek perform excellent in those conditions. I've changed battery on my GA-110 once and had no fogging issues (I have it over 6 years now). Battery should last you at least 2 years and it mostly depends on how often you use back light. Leave it open over night somewhere warm to dry, clean dirt and grime from casing and replace the gasket. Applying some silicone or lube to the gasket can help too. Pro-Trek PRW-2500T on the other hand is a different beast. Having altimeter and barometer are extremely useful options for me. Solar battery and multiband 6 are an added bonus. It offers moon phase and tide graph, so it can be useful for fishermen too. Compass is not so accurate tho and it has a lot of drift. It will help you if you're stuck in middle of nowhere, but good ol' lensatic compass is a go-to when it comes to navigation.

I got a Citizen Eco-Drive BN0000-04h recently because it was one of the smaller solar divers out there ... was happy to later find out that the model was issued to divers in the Royal Navy a few years back! I wish a few more manufacturers would make special-issue military watches again. Seiko / Pulsar did it with their Gen 1 and Gen 2 RAF military chronographs and they are beautiful, but sadly are rare and expensive.

    I really enjoyed your video and how you broke down the different styles of watches. While I was never a team guy or a door kicker or anything cool like that, I was part of Uber grey that put a lot of you guys on target, so having a reliable timepiece was paramount. I went through a few G-Shocks but the thing that I like them is that most of the later ones are solar powered, so battery consumption really wasn't an issue other than making sure to leave them outside the hooch when we racked out, in the morning after chow. Later as shit dragged on and we got busier, a lot of us started carrying fourtrex's as part of our kit, just in case we happened to go down in indian country and needed to evade for any period of time.. They also made a great tool to back up the pilots when we were inbound to an LZ, not to mention they able to be easily data wiped because most of us had multiple LZ grids stored in them for fobs and shit all over Iraq. Lastly they were great for PT when you added the chest band heart monitor. I got my 401 back in like 2011 and that thing is solid. I have "forgotten" to turn it in when I retired in 2013, but f em 😅. Again. For anything moderate, I have a Suunto7 and day to day bs, I'll throw on my Fitbit. Again. Great informative video. Keep up the good work. 👍

    Nice video man. I personally have the Tissot T Touch 2. It's a hybrid with a compass (& other features too) but it's more of a sports watch rather than an analog watch. Since I got mine almost 10 years ago, the battery isn't solar and it lasts 1 or 2 years depending on how heavily you use it. There is a newer version that came out a few years ago. Same features, but the biggest difference is that it's solar powered & it has a bigger face and its a lot less bulky. Consider adding this watch to the list next time if you made a follow up video.

    As an FYI, you can navigate with an analog or hybrid watch. You can find north in the southern hemisphere by pointing the twelve to the sun, and it's half-way between that and the hour hand. The converse is true in the northern hemisphere, as pointing the hour hand to the sun yields south in between that and the twelve o'clock position. You do have to adjust for DST accordingly, though. It's not pinpoint grid coordinates, but it's enough to get a general navigation nonetheless.
