    Okay so a second post from me. The other thing you guys are overlooking is the removal of the best player in college from the team and how that player demanded a lot of attention from the other team. Some teams just focused 90% of their defense to stop Zach and thus Fletch and others got near wide open looks. Teams dared Purdue to beat them from the outside and it turned out that Purdue was good enough to do that until the last game of the year. So I would say the ceiling for a lot of these guys is actually the same as last year and that may not be a bad thing.

    @davidwill467916 күн бұрын

    I don't think these guys understand Painter. He recruited TKR to be a four. He has said that and so has TKR. TKR is not out of position at the 4. He will be the 4 next year. Next year 2 more 7'2" + 5s will fight for a starting 5 role. I believe Berg will end up there because he has 2 years learning the O and D and had lots of time learning by playing against Edey. I believe that frees up Jacobsen to learn and get his body into College condition as a RS. Then the following year there could very well be a Zach Edey/Trevion Williams type split at the 5.

    I think we might see Jacobsen split time this year and he, TKR, Berg, and Furst all have minutes at the 5 but TKR and Heidi split the 4 too. We have so many moving parts and possible lineups it's crazy! Fletcher has put on some muscle too so there's an improvement as well!

    Berg has not shown any signs of being anything but a backup to fill minutes. He reminds me of a taller Travis Carroll, good shot between 7-10 feet away but clunky hands and less than ideal footwork. I don’t think painter expected Jacobsen to look as good as he does before he’s even stepped onto campus. If Jacobsen can start putting on some weight this summer it’s very likely that it’s TKR at the 5 for 20mpg and Jacobsen at the 5 for 20mpg. And then TKR sprinkled into the 4 spot 8-10mpg. That’s like a best case from Jacobsen and TKR. TKR has shown he’s better at the 5 than at the 4, which is also why he bulked up a 😢ton from his redshirt to RS freshman year. He does look a whole lot thinner now than he did 1.5 years ago so maybe you’re right and the goal is basically TKR and Jacobsen both going for 25-30mpg. I just don’t see a world where berg is getting more than 6-8 mpg.

  • @jackcarey31
    @jackcarey3112 күн бұрын

    Smith will definitely score more but I think his rebounding this year was excellent because he had guys like edey/gillis boxing out and he just had to have the fire in him to go grab the ball. The fire is still going to be in him but opponents aren’t going to have to worry about Edey/gillis and thus I think 2-3 rebounds per game become a lot more difficult to snag. 16-5-5 is my expectation for him this year. I think the ball will be in his hands a little less as the team needs to be a lot more mobile in the half court so a few less opportunities for assists. Either way it’s not insane to think he is going to be one of the top 2-4 guys who have a chance at bigten player of the year if he stays healthy and takes the next jump in his game which is scoring more often.

    Purdue is mainly going to be balanced next year, they are going to exploit match ups. Who has big games is going to change depending on the match ups. Smith though may get 3 triple double games if Painter lets it happen.

  • @AngryBoilerFan

    Do NOT sleep on Cox. He is a fucking killer. 2 inches shorter version of Gicarri with a better scoring upside IMO. He’s a beast. Also watch out for Benter. Benter is 10x better than Fletch. Benter not gonna contribute this year but - when he does - he’s gonna shoot the fucking lights out and be a double double threat with assists. Dude can handle, pass the fuck out of the ball and can shoot it from anywhere on the floor and create his own shot. 6’5 and while he looks slow he’s really athletic and can play both with and without the ball in his hands. He’s a BEAST. Idk much about Burgess. Don’t know what to think about him.

    Freshman year Edey was not good. His ability to just catch the ball was the worst. I like Smith but you are 100%. He reminds of John Stockton and how good would John have been if he didn't have Carl Malone? Yes good but as good? I think his numbers will drop for sure. However a best case scenario for Purdue as I see it is this. Their new 7 foot 3 dude is way better than expected. He comes in and he can shoot the 3 good enough. He then starts at the 4 position. TKR starts at center. That or somehow Furst develops an outside shot and can then slot in to the 4 position and he and TKR both greatly improve. In short every player on Purdue will need to improve quite a bit for Smiths numbers to stay the same as I see it. Again I am not saying Smith is bad at all, but just how good Edy was, and how good he could make certain point guards look.

    @@SteveMichaelI don't expect much from Jacobson, it's extra hard for big men to be that thin and be productive year one they seem to foul a bunch he needs a college year in the weight room. If he's the starting center I don't think Purdue is having the season most expect. it has to be TKR at the 5, Jacobson will be good when it's all over but not this year.

    Purdue is super overrated going into next year. Maybe not even top 25 imo. Very mid starting lineup. Smith is good but I want to see what he can do without Edey making his life very easy. Loyer is not that good, Colvin and Heide need to make ginormous jumps which might not happen, TKR is solid but the 5 is not his position. This lineup is also crazy small. Then their bench consists of literally all freshman and Furst (he's really bad). I guess Berg too but I don't see anyone having any faith in him anyway. I won't sleep on Paint but on paper this is really bad.
