No but this would be insane because you'd be pitting agonizing ballads against 5-part choral magic against the organized chaos of Nonstop.... omg I need this.
As an international fan I found the point about the effect Wicked and Hamilton have had on the world very interesting. There's no doubt that Hamilton is successful overseas, but at the end of the day it is an american story. Where as Wicked has dominated on the international stage. The general population (non theatre fans) in my country don’t know much about Hamilton, but they definitely know about Wicked. Wicked wins in my opinion (and I say this as a Hamilton fan)
@maxeyre2024

Hamilton dominated the West End too though...and that should say something considering it's about the revolution against Britain, haha. I love Wicked too, but just honestly feel that Hamilton is going to stand the test of time even more.
@bohemelavie1

@@maxeyre2024 Yep, it did. It was/is also doing well in Australia. But I'm not sure we can say the same for non english speaking countries? Wicked has been successful in china, south korea, the philippines, japan, Germany, holland. Hamilton does of course has its upcoming opening in hamburg next year but it doesn't have the world wide dominance wicked had... Yet. With time it may reach the same international fame, but we are comparing the two right now.

as a kid from a country where english musicals NEVER make it mainstream, hamilton still broke through. it was my first musical i ever heard because it was just that popular. while there are people still aware of hamilton and the lion king, ive never seen someone in this country be aware of wicked.

I've seen six of these eight, but still gotta give it to Hamilton lol. It just changed my life so much, and I think truly is a defining piece of theatre and art. Also, don't know how you find Hurricane a sleeper lmao, the climax with Burr saying "Wait for It, Wait For It..." after Hamilton says "I couldn't seem to die." is just...ahhhh. I love the build up too.

I legit love hurricane from Hamilton. I rather listen to hurricane than some other songs of hamilton
I love Hamilton and I love Wicked, but RENT would have won for me! Also thanks for rubbing it in that we won't ever see your Heathers bootleg!?!
My favourite thing about Wicked (aside from the songs of course) is that it deals with so many issues while still being a musical about friendship. Like animal rights, racism, classism, and exploiting political power are all covered but it still remains so true to its core, which is Elphie and Galina.
with lin directing the tick tick boom film and drawing inspiration from rent, i feel like them against each other kinda came full circle
It would be so cool for y’all to do a Tier list of the best underground shows!

I am HERE for the Play That Goes Wrong love! So underappreciated! Mischief Theatre (the writers and original cast) are magical and hilarious in everything they do 😄
For me I would’ve picked Wicked over Hamilton? I feel like Wicked is just so much easier to get immersed in not to mention insane vocals from everyone. I think Hamilton is SO RICH that sometimes you feel tired watching it because you’re watching where someone is going and why they’re doing something - which is what makes it so brilliant but I would rather watch Wicked instead of Hamilton in general

4:46 I personally feel like, yes Hamilton brought people into theater but Phantom helped a lot of people stay in theater. But right now Heathers stands strong as my favorite musical 💪🏻 Followed by (call me basic) but Matilda/Annie then beetle juice then the Addams family and then wicked and newsies. Not in that specific order but yeah
This was so good!
Ok but I love Hurricane 😂. Like I honestly love all the music off of Hamilton…..
such a good conversation! really felt like i was partaking in it too somehow, and agree with all of your choices!
With Halloween rapidly approaching, I’m surprised that stage productions of Rocky Horror weren’t mentioned. I saw it in a real theatre with live actors for the first time recently and it’s one of the best theatrical experiences I have ever had

As a spoken word poet/enthusiast, Hurricane from Hamilton quickly became one of my favorite numbers
I've always considered Wicked, Rent, and Hamilton as my top 3 so I was very invested in this process lol
Those shirts are everything!!!
Hurricane is one of my favourites! 🤯 the language, the buildup, the visuals... but 100 percent would have chosen the same order you guyes did 😄
Coming from a country where theater musicals were not in mainstream, me (a college stud) and all the people I know barely know any knowledge about it. After watching Hamilton (the film), however, seeing how creativey amazing it is, gained us interest to broadway. From that moment on we’ve searched more and more musicals, watched bootlegs and stuff, and damn this thing is addictive as hell! Their songs even dominated my music playlist. So, yeah, Hamilton it is! ✨
Do another one!! Here’s a few suggestions: Bare: A Pop Opera - Come from Away - The Last Five Years - A Chorus Line - Grease - The Sound of Music - American Idiot - She Loves Me - Once - Hadestown - If/Then - Godspell - Funny Girl - Finding Neverland - Anything Goes - Miss Saigon - A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder -The Light in the Piazza
Okay why am I so addicted to this channel now??? UnderRATED
I LIVE AND BREATHE FOR HAMILTON Not just because it came out on Disney plus or because everyone simps for Anthony Ramos/Daveed Diggs, it changed my perspective on the broadway community. When I was younger I didn't care much for broadway; I would walk past a theater and shrug. But when I saw Hamilton I was enlightened and had to see another show and another show, and now whenever we pass Richard Rodgers theater (or any broadway theater) I burst into song The lyrics are works of art, the book is amazing, and the vocals are unexplainably AMAZING. I'm seeing Hamilton again on November 28 and I'm super excited! Sorry if it long, Love your vids!
I would pick Wicked purely because of the production value. Hamilton is great but in terms of which show I enjoyed more...Wicked wins Hairpsray, Book of Mormon, and crazy enough Mary Poppins beat Hamilton stage wise. HOWEVER the pro-shot probably beats/is equal to those I just mentioned
In high school, we did a trip to NYC as a chorus and we saw Once On This Island, Come From Away, Hello Dolly, and The Play That Goes Wrong. To this day--- OOTI and The Play That Goes Wrong are my favorite things of all time. Alongside Heathers and Hamilton

Okay coming back! Because I am now about 6mins in... I love both Rent and Heathers and I am just so much more entertained with Heathers than Rent. There is a lot more of a slower start to in Rent, which can be appreciated but from the start Heathers had me
Maybe next you guys can do your favorite songs from musicals, as a tier list or a bracket like this!
I love the heathers merch so much!!
*casually adds the sweatshirt to my christmas list*
From the age of 8, the first time I watched the movie musical of rent. It will always be my fave musical. Nothing will ever beat it. I spent my teens decorating a rent shrine and learning every single thing about the show and Broadway and original cast, documentaries. I wrote an 80 page article/essay for coursework in musical theatre on everything about rent
You may also want to consider doing a tier/bracket of works (either ranking songs or complete shows) exclusively by Stephen Schwartz or Stephen Sondheim.
A lot of the time I feel like people sleep on Hurricane just cuz everyone else does but it’s genuinely a good song
I just finished performing in the play that goes wrong- it's soooo great! 🤣

I was so exited when they put the play that goes wrong on there becaue my school just did it as a fall play. I played Sandra Wilkinson and I have so many memories, like getting hit by a door and dragged throught a window. Being punched and knocked out. And our set compleetly falling! Good times. I would love to see it on off now broadway.
I know it didn't win but I LOVE the appreciation for The Play That Goes Wrong. Literally had the same thing where I was laughing so hard I started getting worried about my health. You should both check out The Goes Wrong Show!!! It's 30 minute episodes by the same company with mini-plays
Love the "tier list with a twist"
My highschool just finished up doing "The One Act Play That Goes Wrong". It was honestly really good
I love it that The Play That Goes Wrong made your Final Four. My main criticism of Rent is that it seems almost designed to become dated--Living in America at the End of the Millennium plus references to Doc Martens etc. It feels kind of like it's telling you that you have to be part of our club from our time period to get this musical. Very different from Hamilton, set in a much older time period, but more universally relatable characters. I've never seen Wicked.
Play that goes wrong is underrated and so hilarious! Everyone should go watch it. I’m very happy it was in this video
Did you know that the Play the Goes Wrong has a TV show in the UK? It started in 2016 when 'Peter Pan Goes Wrong' was shown at Christmas. The next year they performed 'A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong' and now they have a TV show called 'The Goes Wrong Show'. I'd highly recommend those if you liked it in theatres, most episodes can be found on KZread.
You should do another video with others such as In the Heights and Hadestown!

The remake of rent that was recently on in England was incredible! Although the original version was amazing, this new modern take was absolutely out-of-this-world🤩
Discovering Hamilton at the age of 12 was a complete life-changer for me. It drew me into the world of musical theatre and it will always hold a special place in my heart, so yeah, I must say I'm incredibly happy that Hamilton won, although I absolutely LOVE WICKED and how enchanting and magical it is.

the play that goes wrong IS THE BEST PLAY IVE EVER WATCHED. i was laughing the WHOLE TIME
Sam needs to drop her skin/makeup routine cause DAMN!!! She be glowing
Floyd Collins and Parade are my 2 and all-time favorite musicals. These 2 shows have the best music and storytelling of all time in my opinion.
This request is extremely far in advance, but please make another one of these once the Mean Girls Movie Musical and Wicked movie have come out, except with movie musicals!
I had wicked higher than hamilton just by a little bit. I agree with everything u guys said but there's just this unexplainable magic I feel watching wicked (it also holds extra sentimental value as my first musical). Hamilton is insane but I think it can be harder to digest and for someone who is not american and didn't know ANYTHING about american history, watching it the first time was kinda tricky (at the same time one of my fav things is how many new things u pick up the more u listen to it). I think wicked is a good musical for anyone to watch whereas hamilton requires a specific audience (despite being a phenomenon, I have shown friends and family that simply couldn't grasp the rapping enough to appreciate it and since they aren't theatre kids, they didnt go back and listen to the music- which is where I got a majority of my enjoyment after watching it once)
6:07 but the dopamine rush I get from watching the heathers bootleg 😭😭
My favourite musicals are Company, Newsies and Last Five Years
Yes i need a broadway tournament with the bars on both sides if ur struggling to choose enough musicals i have some reccomendations (in no particular order) . Waitress . Heathers . Wicked . Oklahoma . Hamilton . Dear Evan Hansen . Phantom of The Opera . Next to Normal . Carrie . Company . Gypsy . Hedwig . Frozen . Lion King . Six . Legally Blonde . Mean Girls . Beetlejuice . Prom . Rent . Dream girls . Little Shop of Horrors . Newsies (just to name a few) ;)
You should do a musical proshot ranking of some sort! Love all of ur musical content!

i love heathers, rent and wicked
HAPPY ONE YEAR YOOTOOB YOOTOOB!!!
I really wish they'd filmed Heathers with the original cast like they did Hamilton. I've watched Hamilton at least 200 times on Disney+ and would do the same with Heathers.
The only musical I’ve seen on Broadway was Rock of Ages. It was actually pretty good. But at the time they were also playing Mary Poppins and I kind of regret not seeing it. Besides that the only other musical I’ve seen is Grease where my brother played Danny Zuko.
The best Broadway musical I've seen is Hadestown, hands down. It was the first week the obc came back after the pandemic. So moving! That could change because i have tickets for Some Like It Hot and Merrily We Roll Along. So very excited.
you should do this with characters of a show; heathers or frozen maybe
For some reason, I think Sam would be a great Glinda in Wicked.... I JUST WANT THEM IN THE WICKED MOVIE!!!
My favorite part of this entire video was sams impression of hurricane from Hamilton
I don't know if I can name one, honestly. Les Mis, Hamilton, Phantom, Rent, and Little Shop are all in my Top 5. I can say that much.
kinda unrelated but i am dressing as heather chandler with two of my friends this halloween! it's my favorite costume of all time.
So here I go commenting on a more than one year old video. I agree with literally everything that was said in this video. When I turned 18 and graduated highschool my mom got me a plane ticket to London and two theatre tickets, Wicked and Hamilton. Those were the first two shows I've ever seen on the West End. Playing this I would've worked myself into the exact same choice, Hamilton is lyrical brilliance while Wicked is a bombastic theatre experience. I would not have been able to pick one.
Unpopular opinion: with this lineup I honestly would have picked phantom of the opera over Hamilton and I would have picked rent over Hamilton as well. This is because for me personally whenever I am bored and just want to watch a musical I always search for the 25th anniversary per shot a phantom of the opera or I will search for the 2008 pro shot of rent. I think that’s just because I am personally not the biggest fan of rap but I do know all the songs from Hamilton obviously lol

It will always be RENT for me. RENT is the musical that got me into musicals. And helped me realise I was gay.

I recently saw Hadestown and Hamilton and honestly Hadestown is my favorite musical I have seen. It was chilling and beautiful and tragic and incredible. I saw Hamilton and wished it was the original cast…I did see it on a night with mostly understudies, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would because of cast. It was disappointing 😔

Hadestown is amazing. It's currently my favorite musical along with Hamilton. The obc for Hadestown knocked it out of the park. Never thought "lalalala" would become one of my favorite lyrics ever but here we are
I would love to see a bracket list of how you would rate musical revivals and older musicals (pre-2000's). One of my favorites is Secret Garden, but also Pippin, Tommy, Chorus Line, Oklahoma, Hello Dolly, Camelot, Anything Goes!, Godspell, Showboat, etc.
THE HURRICANE IMPRESSION
may j just say… hamilton or wicked any day. i have watched it many times and it never gets old. the soundtrack is just better than wicked and brought so many cultural resets especially in the hip hop/rap area. i really haven’t seen any other musical with that much rap in it. like the 10 duel commandments is a reference to one of the best rappers in time notorious b.i.g. yes as much a rent was also a reset hamilton over all just is better. when you see it in theaters or even on disney+ you feel so alive. also IT WAS ALL MADE BY ONE MAN. lin-manuel miranda is a genius, he wrote the WHOLE musical all by himself and writ and produced the whole soundtrack!!!
