Hi Prof, can you share concrete examples to incorporate sustainability (specifically carbon footprint impact) factors in Services procurement? I find it relatively easier to apply it in raw materials or Goods procurement, but rather vague for Services procurement. I can only think of simple examples like reducing printing, minimize in person meeting (travels), teleworking…

Hey there! Absolutely, incorporating sustainability in Services procurement can be a bit trickier than with raw materials or goods. Awesome question btw, and here are some things I can think of: 1) Virtual Meetings and Teleworking: As you mentioned, reducing in-person meetings and promoting teleworking can significantly reduce carbon footprint by cutting down on travel emissions. 2) Green Service Providers: Look for service providers who have sustainability initiatives in place, such as using renewable energy, reducing waste, or offsetting carbon emissions. 3) Lifecycle Assessment: Conduct a lifecycle assessment of the services being procured to identify areas where carbon footprint can be reduced. For example, choosing service providers who use energy-efficient technologies. 4) Carbon Offsetting: Consider partnering with service providers who offer carbon offsetting programs as part of their service offerings. 5) Digitalization and Paperless Processes: Implement digital procurement processes and reduce paper usage wherever possible. This can include e-signatures, electronic invoicing, and document management systems. 6) Sustainable Supply Chain: Engage with service providers who have a sustainable supply chain. This includes evaluating their suppliers and ensuring they meet environmental standards.
