Recently I almost got died due to Electrical Switch Short Circuit. I lost literally everything I had in my Hostel Room. Physically I saved myself but I had almost 6 lakhs loss. On 10 march 2024 I wake up at 6 am I felt very cold so I turned on hot air giving small round heater and slept again for about 3.5 hours. When I wake up on 9:30 am another bed was fully burning from the underneath of the bed where there was switch. When I wake up fire was already getting big and big. Eventually I couldn't do anything and run out of the room and on panic state watch my room burning. All of the people got panic and they couldn't do anything either. Whole room got burnt. Nothing left Nothing. After that fire brigade came and controlled the fire. And Big Coincidence I am exactly 1st Semester student in Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at TU , IOE , Pulchowk Campus, Kathmandu, Nepal. So I am researching how was that big fire accident happened. i concluded these things. - there was a lot of burnable things like books and clothes near the switch due to short circuit fire ignite and it immediately spread out amongthings and started burning massively. - as I mentioned I used electric hot air blowing round heater fan for 3.5 hours due to over use for long time continuously short circuit happened. -i guess the ampere Capacity of the hostel was just 5 A. which couldn't hold the load -about 35 students live in that 3 floor hostel. there was massive electrical overload on that building electrical systems. -the wire, fuse, switch, wiring and entire electrical system was very old, because that house itself was very old. I guess they didn't change switch and wire for one time after the construction. Electrical Systems was aged. - before 2 months when I used that switch to charge my laptop the light of the room was blinking and blinking. I told warden of the hostel about the problem but he just ignored and said me to use another switch. that day heater was used in that damaged switch. As a Electrical Engineering Student I analysed everything of this biggest accident of my life. By all these things going wrong in electrical system of that room got burned due to Electrical Switch short circuit and I am baring heavy mental stress and losses

Hi, can you explain in the case: short circuit in the parallel circuit. Why is a partial short have a huge current, which may cause damage (an increase from 10.8A to 108A) but dead short near the source in the parallel circuit, everything is stopped, which means no damage, and the circuit has just stopped working, right? so in this case dead short is better than partial short?

Sir, by "dead short", the damage will be done only for the source right? Because all the current will flow into the short circuit path. Correct me if im wrong. My understanding is that partial short may affect some load connected to it but dead short will only cuz problem at the source. Tq
