What is RFID? How RFID works? RFID Explained in Detail
In this video, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) Technology has been explained.
So, in this video, what is RFID, what is inside this RFID system, how RFID works, and the application of RFID have been explained.
What is RFID?
RFID is the technology that works on radio frequency and it is used for the auto-identification for the different object.
The RFID system mainly consists of two parts.
1) RFID Reader or Interrogator
2) RFID Tags
In this RFID system, this RFID reader continuously sends radio waves of a particular frequency. If the object, on which this RFID tag is attached is within the range of these radio waves then it sends the feedback back to this RFID reader.
And based on this feedback, the RFID reader identifies the object.
RFID tags:
Now, three different kinds of RFID tags are commercially available.
1) Passive tags
2) Active tags
3) Semi-passive tags
These passive tags do not have any power supply. They used to get their power from the incoming radio waves from the Readers.
While active tags have a power source for their internal circuitries. And for sending the response to the reader also, it uses its own power supply.
In the case of semi-passive tags, they have a power supply for internal circuitries, but for sending the response it relies on the radio waves received from the Reader.
Operating Frequency:
This RFID system is mainly operated in three frequency bands.
1) LF: Low-Frequency band
2) HF: High-Frequency band
3) UHF: Ultra High-Frequency band
The exact frequency of operation varies from country to country.
Operating Principles:
Most of the RFID systems operate on any of these two principles.
1) Load Modulation
2) Backscattered Modulations
Applications of RFID:
1. Institutions: Library, Hospitals, Schools, and Colleges
2. Transportation and Logistics
3. Access Control
4. Sports
5. Animal Tracking

I now better understand the how the tag (with its load) modulates the 13.56 MHz reader's magnetic field to send its data back to the reader. Thanks for clearing that up!

yes but many people do not know how to understand spoken English, there are about a million dialects the way English is spoken, this chap in the video may not understand you any better. I understood every word he said plus the fact is I work with RFID and could not find any faults in the technical aspect of what he said and his explanation was best ever .
Perfectly explained just enough to completely understand the basics.

Thank you very much, this was just great, and a super clear explanation! I’m not a native English speaker and I could understand it just fine. Your accent is amazing! I hope you do not get bothered by the fools who cannot appreciate the time and effort you put into this, and all they can talk about it how you speak. Here’s hoping they will enter the 21st century one day. Thank again for your effort.

This is a great video! Much clearer about what is happening on the card and also the reader.
Thanks- this was a really good explanation! I was not understanding the difference in passive vs active tag until now. Passive tag is what a vet implants in a dog. Active tag is what we hook to dog's collar or child's clothes to track them on cell phone app
@joelremedios2674
2 жыл бұрын
Active tags generally are self-powered relying on their own power to send a signal to the receiver, semi-passive rely on radio frequency of the receiver to send signal to the receiver & have limited range whereas passive tags have no power & entirely depend on the reader is what I've understood.
Superb ! Only important things covered and no blabbering ! great
thank you for gave me a great explaination of RFID

Ur method of explanation is excellent. It is very easy to understand and u've covered every topic order wize. Its really impressive. Keep up the good work.

love your video and comments on the RFID signals, never know about this before i watch your video, was usefull to me !

great work congrats !!!!!!!
your effort on RFID information is appreciable.
thank you, really appreciated as a student who is gonna do something with RFID
Thank you for concise and clear explanation. Excellent. Good if can make additional you tube videos for few related topics - 1. Material of the Tag ?? 2. Environment under which Tag and Reader are working including what to do and what not to do to increase the performance 3. Impact on the range /distance between Tag and Reader of the environment ??? 4. I am sure other readers can add to my list
This is precise and on point...nice work you can be a greater professor.
Thank you for a very clear explanation. I wanted to understand this technology so that I would know how to block those who want to steal credit card information. This got me started with a basic understanding of the way RFID works. I see the comments about your accent. It is rather different than mine. I live in the Central Valley of Californian. I am, of course, used to the accents I hear every day. It would be helpful if you slowed down when you speak. But I solved the problem by turning on the close captioning. It did an excellent job of translating your speech into text. I could also have slowed down the play back of the video. But that wasn't necessary. Again thank you. I have subscribed and activated notifications. I look forward to your future offerings.
Wow ! Very lucid explanation with sufficient graphics of RFID tag. Thanks a lot. Next time some images of real RFID tags etc will help.

Thanks for the informative video. I have a question: 5:24 I always thought that higher frequencies are more fragile to attenuation and therefore their range is smaller than low frequencies ? Is it wrong ?

*Superb explanation 🔥*
Very well explained. To the point and simple.
Great explanation!
thank you really much for this video! Really clear! I have a question: Can we use the FFC RFID with high frequencies and detect how far or how short the RFID tag is from the reader based on the intensity of the signal?
@lac19951
4 жыл бұрын
FCC is just a regulatory body, you can detect the range of the RFID by using an Ultrasonic sensor with a preset distance calculation or microcontroller with RFID wave data for interpretation of signal parameters.
Couple questions: 1. Do all tags have the same ID that the reader recognizes or are there different ones programmed into the reader to detect? 2. How do tags get deactivated by rubbing on a black looking thing like in a library when signing a book out?
@mrsemifixit
8 ай бұрын
@TharakaSiyambalapitiya For #2 what does rubbing on a black thing do exactly so the programmer doesn’t read it?

Good entry level presentation. Accent was thick so I turned on closed caption which was video publisher generated and very thoroughly done. As an American English user, I am always happy when people of other cultures take on our language. And visa versa, i.e., my son is teaching Science at a private academy in China and has become fluent in Mandarin to do so. Languages are cool...

Hello AAE, thanks a lot, now I understand how rfid works. Just one comment/question on distance travel wrt frequency (ts 5:13). I thought one of the basics in radio waves is that lower frequency travels longer than higher frequency. So i'm wondering if you had it the other way around. Appreciate if you can clarify, I could be wrong.

How we can interlock this technology with Programmable Logic Controller ?
Hey! Nice video. However, there is one thing i was conserned about. Shouldn't the distance be higher for lower frequency and shorter for higher frequency? I am quite sure i learned it in that way
