What is Research through Design?

Ғылым және технология

Research through Design is an exciting field where designers produce scientific research by practicing their craft.
With research through design, we record hands-on design knowledge in scientific publications.
Until now, you had to go through complex academic literature to make sense of Research through Design. We explain what you must understand, to use and to do Research through Design without spending days reading academic books and papers.
This video will save you months, if not years.

I love this video, wonderful amazing content! half a year ago the first time I came across this video, it was the first time that I realized I actually enjoy the way that I took DESIGN as a method to research and gain some insight, philosophy knowledge rather than design something like object or an APP, also I find my passion about HCI research(intersection field of design, cognitive science, engineer, etc). I am going to study the HCI master program in Sweden Uppsala University, looking forward to experience it and thank you so much for inspirating me!

Academic research is about writing... that made me cry. No. It's about producing validated theory that cumulates on other validated theory in order to support solving future problems. It's the difference between asking "how can we build a beautiful garden at this spot" (a particular) and asking "what design features of gardens do people consider beautiful" (a general). Research thru Design is a mixed mode approach (to be precise, a concurrent triangulation design) with elements of action research (trial-and-error with the actual material object that is designed). Which is fine, but it is not a new line of academic research, it's just another field of application of fairly established methods.
