You are dividing numerator and denominator by same amount to get the similar thing in smaller size . Suppose there are 2 teams Team A = 5 members Team B = 5 members Team A have 10 chocolates and Team B have 20 chocolates so final ratio of amounts 10:20 On distributing chocolates to each of the members in both respective team we get Team A per member chocolates = 2 Team B per member chocolates = 4 So here their ratio is 2:4 So having 10:20 chocolates team A : team B Is the same as having the chocolate team A per member : team B per member = 2:4
