What Is Political Anthropology? Political Behavior, Maintaining Social Order, Political Science

In today's video, I am going to be explaining Political Anthropology. Political anthropology is a branch of sociocultural anthropology. We will be defining political anthropology, share some history, discuss political behavior, social order, and so much more. Share your questions below!
Who am I? My name is Alivia Brown and I am a recent UCLA Anthropology graduate on a mission to find a career that I love. My major does not have a straight forward "path" as many would say and I am not only determined to prove that I can be successful in my major but also demonstrate my ability to find a career that brings me joy. This is my journey to expanding my global and anthropological knowledge. This is my journey to finding the best career I can. This is my journey to finding happiness. This is my journey to success.

This is one of the first of many anthropology videos Ive watched. Super informative and well spoken thank you for sharing and continuing to make content for the people! Much appreciation!- Anthropology and now learning more about political anthropology, I have to say I am very interested. As systems and our set systems in society and cultures everywhere have always made me curious on the formation of these systems and in depth detail on the nitty gritty of how people function!

I am currently 17 and finishing up getting my diploma. I have no plans for after high school, but I'm not sure how I feel about that! I've been thinking about looking into auditing classes from place to place depending on what else is in store for me. I'm curious as to what drove you into this field?

enjoyed this video with all of my political science-loving heart! 💗 much of what you shared about political anthro (examining built political systems and social structures within historical context) reminds me of my comparative politics classes and makes me wonder how, if at all, those courses and their drawn conclusions would differ if taught through a strictly anthropological lens :)

Thank you for another great video! I actually can't pick the field of studies and want to apply for anthropology faculty, get BA or BS in it. But which? That's a big question floating around. Every subfield seems to be so interesting, forensic, social and cultural anthropology are the at top of the list.

Of course!! They are both interesting, and regardless of what you choose, you can take classes in all areas of anthropology :) what varies the most usually is the prerequisites

Political anthropology would also seem to be an area of study within political science, drawing heavily from comparative politics. Comparative politics is the comparative study of different systems of government around the world and throughout history, as well as the study of the theories which underpin them. Do you have any sources you’d recommend for delving more into political anthropology?

Can you name some theories of power or approaches to study power by anthropologist. If u give some names of anthropologist who worked on political anthropology it would be great. In terms of history please mention exactly when did it started and are there any specific debates related to political anthropology .

This made me remember Enrique Dussel, if I can recommend an author on any comment section on the Internet it will be him. Here we have a really complete and easy to understand video, even when Its not a 45 minute video essay🤟 Edit: we need something about philosophical anthropology (is philosophical spelled right??)

Thank you so much for this video! I'm really interested in Marvin Harris' Cultural Materialism - but I feel like it probably has some hidden flaws to it that I couldn't pick up as a non-expert. Anyway that would be super cool if you're looking for video topics!

Hi Alivia! Thanks for making the video. What you said about political anthropology resonated with me. Would you be able to make a video about the critera or requirement of paricipant observation? Especially, I'm not sure how long time cultural anthropologits are supposed to immerse themselves in community they research on, like research saturation.
