You should definitely watch Overlord. I'm not going to spoil too much, since you already kind of grasped the point of the series, albeit with the wrong characters, but this series is basically the concept of "What if the villain was the main character". And it excells at that.

I really like that concept! Has a lot of potential for exploring issues with morality and what a villain would and wouldn't be willing to do! Reminds me of when I played an evil DND campaign and I didn't want to do evil things but my character would of - it's a real moral dilemma haha! Thanks for watching!!

Overlord is actually based on a series of light novels, and all of the pictures in the endings are drawn by the illustrator of those light novels! That is why they look so good, it is quite literally the style of the novels themselves!

"Secretly unhinged" 🤣🤣🤣 I dont think the show is trying to keep it a secret

The illustrations for the endings are made by the actual illustrator of the light novels, So-bin. The openings and ending are either made by OxT or Myth&Roid except for ED4 that is sung by Mayu Maeshima. She was the original vocalist of Myth&Roid before she left to pursue a solo career and was the singer for ED1, the current vocalist is KIHOW who sang ED2 and OP3. And both of those bands have the same composer and guitarist, Tom-H@ck.

Overlord is one of my favourite series due to the world building and creativity from the writer. Side characters in this anime/novel/manga (the series started out as a Web Novel, then a Light Novel, got adapted into Anime that spans 4 seasons and a manga series) are fleshed out very well (well, most of them) and have their own spotlights (not having to rely on the MC to have screen time). It got inspirations from D&D (as the author proclaimed and you'd see the similarities in how the power system works), and is quite unique due to the MC being straight up "villains" to every other characters. Despite some terrible CGIs and animations (MadHouse least favorite child, unlike Frieren), it's still worth a watch and totally would see your video reactions.

One of my fave animes. It really explores the concept of "what actually is evil?" Ainz has a quote basically saying that what wouldn't you do to bring happiness and prosperity to your own people? In history many leaders have killed and tortured in order to bring prosperity to their own people.. it's definitely a morally Gray show

Well, Ainz is not really evil though, if anything, he's more neutral, it's mainly Demi and his direct followers and the worst 5 that are evil. The others won't bother with you if you don't annoy them.

Overlord is one of those series where once you get into the rabbit hole that is its story, lore and characters you just can't get enough. The anime does a good job covering the story, but there is so much info that is cut for the sake of brevity that the Light Novels are 100% the best way to experience it. That being said tho, the anime is still worth a watch and both the opening and ending songs are *bangers* Word of warning tho, the best way I can describe this series is as a "morbid comedy" It isn't afraid to go *really dark and serious* , while also being a spoof of the isekai genre. It puts a godly amount of effort into its world, just for the main characters to completely break it and watch as the chaos ensues lol Its the *definition* of watching a D&D campaign unfold as a party of murderhobos stumble their way through the DM's carefully laid plans. (Which is extra fitting since the author based the story off the various D&D campaigns he never got to play)

I'd define it more as a new DM running an emerging campaing with newbie players letting the one guy on his friend group who's a dedicated D&D player transpose his fully leveled setting into his new world and just watching the chaos unfold as all his carefully laid plans and lore get stumbled over by an OP veteran gamer and the bumbling of his newbie players playing with fully leveled OP characters. The veteran is playing Demiurge, if there was some doubt.

with tons of innocents needlessly dying in the crossfire. i´m not sure why but the main character comes of as desultory to me. Like he doesn´t know if he even wants to be evil but just is because it´s convenient in the moment and he is afraid to be exposed as a fake or something. This makes him the weakest part of the show in my eyes.

@@Tyarrk Well, his racial trait means his empathy went out the window. His goal is to spread his (fake) name to every corner of the world, in order to draw out any who recognize it for what it is. World Domination just so happens to be the fastest direct way of achieving that. Thing is, the show wouldn't work without Ainz. The theme at the center of it is loneliness. Ainz is introduced as the last man standing of his group of friends, holding out hope that they might return. He's surrounded by people with undying loyalty, love and admiration for what he appears to be but not for who he is. He cares for them, but more like how one cares for the treasures of their dead relatives. He doesn't relate to them. For that matter, he remembers his friends more fondly and in an idealized way than what they actually were. Constantly at each other's throats. The reason Ainz was made leader in the first place is because they were all friends with him but not with each other, so he was put in charge in order to mediate, delegate and direct. And the ultmate irony is that his quest is doomed from the start. There are no players left in that world, they all died. And they appeared periodically every few hundred years, but with the game he came from shut down, it doesn't seem likely any more will come. And on the off chance there ARE still some left, his subordinates have planned in secret to kill them before they can make contact.

When the second season came, I wondered why people liked this anime, so I started to watch the first season and it became one of my top anime lists, there are four seasons so far but season 5 will come the next year, but if I am wrong for what I hear about that it's going to a movie of it, but I hope that is a whole season of it.

It will not be a season, it will be a movie, because it actually takes place between season 3 and season 4, and the content is way too graphical for tv, we're talking AoT looks like a kindergarden play in comparison.

Correction to what Mori said. The film takes place between the events of Ep7 and 8 of S4. It was pretty noticeable when goin from 7 to 8 tht it felt like there was a time skip and so much things have happened. Confused me into seeing if the site incorrectly titled the ep. lol

@@xArt_16 Studio not so goated, but if they brought some people that are doing Frieren currently to a new season of Overlord, it would be dope. But you can't just pretend that seasons 3 and 4 didn't had terrible animation at some points.

Was fun to watch you speculate. And the "everyone is morally gray" is pretty much spot on. There are plain good people in the show but like you said living in that world is pretty unforgiving. Just a heads up if you intend to watch: Don't get too attached to anyone outside of the MC's group.

the anime is adapted from a series of light novels which are still ongoing, the LN use the ending style of art in the books, which is why its emphasized in the endings

You made some pretty good deductions about what the series is about and the overall vibe. I know you said you would only have time to watch this on your own and not for reactions, but i genuinely think overlord is one of those series where you get so much more out of it from watching it with the community. The overlord community for reactors is honestly really great and gives a lot of insight into things that get more in-depth explanations in the source material, and people are very good about not spoiling.

There is no good or evil in this anime, just a lot and I mean a lot of various shades of grey. Side note: The source material for this is actually a light novel and all of the ED Art is done by the actual novel's illustrator So-Bin.

No way. GG is definitely the most important antagonist here. After horseradish knows how many children are allowed to be skinned and enslaved (in the form of degradation of the mind to pigs in fact) I can't call them gray. They're blacker than black, I'd say.

After watching your reaction and guesses, I have to say you're not right but you're also not wrong. The most spot on thing you got was about Albedo (the woman in the white dress) and her toxic obsession with Ainz (the MC). But that is one thing I love about these openings and Endings. They give so very little away but still show SO much!

An amazing anime. And if you're someone that likes to get into the lore and secrets of a world, you will love this for sure.

It's a very slow start takes about 3 or 4 episodes to pull people in. It's also based on Novels so they skip over a ton of content. So you will have fans write entire paragraphs explaining hard to detect scenes, where things are hidden or things happened between events.

Amalee does a great job translating the songs and the lyrics definitely set the tone

Surprised how much you guessed right! I love OP4 too! Offtopic. There's a crossover comedy anime called Isekai Quartet which has chibified versions of characters from Overlord, KonoSuba, Re:Zero and Saga of Tanya the Evil going to school. Season 2 also had Shield Hero and Cautious Hero.

Aw, you're gonna love this anime! Definitely one of the best and probably my favorite anime of all time!

This anime is amazing for people who want more of a story than most fantasy/monster animes provide. The story is very deep and takes its time but is extremely rewarding the more you invest yourself into it. One of my all time favorite animes and I can definitely recommend it

I've heard that the author of the novel the anime is based on was a huge D&D player, but since their group had no time to play, he became a writer, and wrote the Overlord. I'm not quite sure if the story is real, tho.

Definitely worth a reaction of the anime, Or an off-camera listen to the Light Novel audiobooks

I really would like to recommend Overlord because it maybe only 1 anime i actually like to go back to and watch in again and again and again. Really good in most aspects and that why it my favorite. Might sound strange but maybe one of few anime that try to be cruel and not do it through mindless slaughter.Also it might be only in my opinion but it do good work in showing how medival been back then not that romantic like every movie or so do it look like.

I love how you watched the endings right after their corresponding openings, instead of all openings then all endings. It feels out of order when reactors do that. You can really appreciate it better this way. You should definitely check out the series, love it even though its unhinged :)

As enough people have probably told you, highly recommend watching the series. Also, the art you see on all the endings were made by the actual illustrator for the visual novel. The person's name is So-bin. Definite masterpiece.

Some of your guesses were right, others were close. Won't say which ones because it'd be better if you eventually watch it. At least I did enjoy it. I dropped S4 because of time issues, but now that you reminded me Overlord 's existence I'll defo binge it all from 1 to 4 xd

What I love about the Ed’s in this show is that they point out to things that are incredibly painful for the Mc and albedo ( the demon girl that’s in love) but are never actually delt with in a healthy way .

Also hint heavily to other characters unhealthy tendencies. Like the princess' and the magic caster's with the mask for the second ED. I think the third foreshadowing is more subtle. Like when you see half characters and of course the last scene is more symbolic than literal shattering.

Fave anime of all time can't wait for more. World building is fantastic so if you watch it really have to pay attention there are also some that only in the LN were described and not much on the anime but I'm sure they'll just say it in the comments for you. ya the closing art work by So-bin the official artist of the novel volumes. he does great work and keep the same style , it fair solid and pretty. also watch overlord it is great and should have a movie out to watch shortly subbed as well as season 5 hopefully soon.

The singer in the last ending (No Mans Dawn) is the original singer for Myth and Roid. Another fun fact myth and roid means past and future, Roid is short for android.

Am late here but definitely give it a watch. It starts off quite simple and gets more interesting and complex.

In my opinion the opening animations are a little low-quality; but the opening and ending songs themselves are ABSOLUTE bangers. Some of my all time favorite anime songs. OxT and Myth and Roid are legends.

The animations aren't low quality, it's just that the new gen anime have set higher expectations on people. The animation of the openings are very fluid and well made, just not in the way the newer animes are done

I loved your reasonings and reactions, it was great. I loved the book!! Recommend reading the book rather than the anime, there is a lot of omission that is a little hard on and heavy on the visual which can and usually is easily missed.

Overlord I'd possibly my all time favourite anime. It's by no means perfect but the depth of the world building, the topics the light novel covers and some of the sheer brutality that happens from people who honestly deserve it and some that don't. Casualties of war or political games, the twisted reality the MC find himself in and how he adapts to his new situation is, for me at least, peak storytelling

this make me want to re watch and read Overlord

this is one of those shows that is as deep as you can see.... certainly closer to dark stories that will make you question few things :D the only thing is that the anime is a lot muted compared to the source so sometimes the scenes don't hit into the gut as much as they should. still it's amazing one to watch

Love how you said a bunch of actually correct stuff about the show just by ops and ends. Btw, about the evil and good, actually the point is EVERYONE IS A PSYCHOPATH (ok, not everyone but most part lol). ALSO, you got the point perfectly on the perspective thing. This anime shows to you a super villain but by his perspective (where ofc, just like he see himself, you don't see him as an evil guy)

This can be taken as spoilers so I'll make space: You can point at any character outside of the main cast and say "I like this character." And you will get giggles out of the whole community with the occasional "Do we tell her?" XD

Let's be real, a lot of us still like those characters, even if they meet a not so friendly demise. The characters are good characters, it's just that the universe is way dark, which is great.

Hydra is my favorite overlord and myth and roid song in general. Its so beautiful!

i would definitly recommend to watch this show, it has a vast world and a lot of interesting and different characters.

Additionally, Overlord is a relevant series to review as season 4 released fairly recently (for anime...at the end of '22) and there is a movie that is coming out soon (likely within the next calendar year). To be warned, in a very non-spoilery way, there are already several movies out, but those just summarise the actual episodes. The upcoming film will be covering material that doesn't show up in the anime episodes (and chronologically happens about halfway through season 4's timeline).

Overlord is a great series, I highly recommend the light novels to read when you watch the series. I loved the anime, but it seriously glosses over important details that I would have felt lost from watching the anime alone. But currently this is the only anime to not only get me to buy a couple of the manga, but got me to buy the light novels.

you missed out on the 1.5 op/ed, the op is a group of side characters singing one of the season one songs in character, the ed is Crazy Scary Holy Fantasy by Myth & Roid

I don't know if you'll read this but I'd agree that all the songs are good, however I do have to say: as someone who's read and watched the series the endings are superior. Not only are the songs just as good but the art you seemed to like so much(I love his highly detailed work as well) are actual panels that the creator of Overlord made as commissions for his own story's animation. Like him telling the animators and watchers: this is my story, I am the artist here and I have the skill nessesary to continue it even after each episode. His art style is beautiful and amazing. So is his show, no matter how dark it may be. The Best Ways to describe this show: Philosophy of the Damned, The Humor of the wicked, Love of the Damned, Absolute inferiority, The Fire of Humanity, The struggle for life and the Habits of the Depraved. If you want the best example of what I mean, just look up Clementine's Death vs Ains.

Interesting guessings，some of them are actually right though，not gonna tell which ones of them are right，but really impressive.

Ending 1(it was debute song of the band), 2 and op 3 are my Myth & Roid and ending 4 is by Mayu Maeshima former vocalist of myth&roid, you heard her in ending 1 as well Youjo Senki opening and re zero op 2 as well as op 4 which she performed after leaving band. Also, op 1,2,4 and ed 3 are by band OxT, guitarist of this band makes music for myth&roid songs

The last ending really fits the main character. He will destroy the world in a symphony of pain and suffering, if it means he gets to keep his family safe and the memories of those he lost intact. 2 quotes from Him in the 12th volume of the light novel: “My only goal is for me and the children to live in happiness; that is all-and that is everything.” “If I were weak I would lose everything too. That is why I can never stop seeking power. I have to remember that there must be someone out there as strong as me.”

She's a virgin love freak of a succubus... The Irony of being the purest yet most down bad character in universe.

This series, at least the light novel goes into far more depth, many of these characters that you saw are the leaders of groups, and nations, they may be ‘evil’ like you said but many of them are great rulers. The gold hair guy (‘evil’ guy), is the ruler of an empire, and is an ‘tyrant’ but his nation is one of the best nations to live in, he slaughtered so many nobles but most of those nobles were corrupt, the common folk have better lives compared to the other nations.
