The only reason we seem like a good cricket team too because hardly 7 or 8 countries play cricket now. Imagine if 40 or 50 nations were playing cricket including many major European or American (continent) countries our cricket would've looked just like our football. Look at Australia a country of 3 crore 15 times world champion in cricket, 7 gold medals in hockey so far ahead of India in almost all sports performance.

This was an amazing panel, lot of Indian football insights we came to know. This panel was missing one important person though. This panel needed a corporate insider, someone who doesn't know lot about football but knows the inner workings of the corporate FSDL decision making and the mindsets of people who views football mostly as a profit making commodity. We often talk about what we want but to make things happen in this work, we also have to listen to what others want as well and come to a compromise. Elvis knows this inside out very well, What is he doing in portugal bhai, idhar aa jao

There should be a similar concept of uncapped players in the ISL as in IPL cricket matches. In the ISL matches, there should be a rule mandating that one player under 20🏅 and one player under 23🏅 be included in the playing XI. This way, emerging young players can get more game time. Share this comment and discuss it on every platform.⚽🔊

A developing player who is 15 or 16 he need atleast a playing time of 1350 minutes it means 15 matches season. in India most of the players who is taking football as serious as their career they don't get these much of game time. This is where india needs to change in development. If the players doesn't get enough game time how will they develop in their game iq, tactics, technical all those things. In most of the states in India the state football association are not even paning the game schedule they only just wanted to finish the league, tournament or season as fast as they can, then how will the players will develop . This is the reality of India this needs to be changed if you real need to see india at the top ranking I'm world

Also this 1.4 billion logic is hoax ...more population is burden here , more population means less facilities per capita. Regarding Vietnam case , Vietnam did grassroots development, have players in foreign league & allows Vietnamese origin players...Indonesia with origin players from Europe defeated Vietnam.

Indian football authority isn't even investing in future. No issues with talent or physicality. Main issue is developing the right talent in right environment. Need lot of planning, coordination, transparency, financial help for grass roots and a good competition. Unfortunately these things can't be achieved in a country like India. You all know why. All this is true ...but I feel a huge mentality problem in Indian players which is not passing the ball ....does Palestine have an effing youth structure? When a country like Iceland can play football competitively do you really need a huge no. Of leagues and teams and what not just to produce 11 players who can simply pass the ball around. All you need is to pass the ball to the nearest/ easiest man and constantly change positions to provide passing options. I never see anyone doing that. The problem is Indians recognise/measure a player by their skills/ physical prowess but never by their game intelligence or vision. Reason why ISL games are so slow is players aren't constantly changing positions, making space so the player has to hold the ball for an extra amount of time searching for passing options.

Plus the infrastructure back than and now is much improved and it is getting improved day by day and the grassroots level programs are in motion for quite a few years now. so we shouldn't be expecting a overnight success in international football yet. process is long and we are on right path. football is getting noticed in india and thanks to ISL & new promotion and relegation process that will get implemented soon, youngsters are getting inspired by the same.

I think we should follow the EFL Pyramid system of Promotion and relegation, that way players will have more hope while playing and will try to keep on improving just to get to that top 3-4 spot in order to get promotion.

Why is it so difficult to Indian to play a good football. Need to focus more on the Grassroot level. Rather than the senior. When we watch indain match, lacking of playing ground passes only kicking the ball high and simply clear the ball to the opponent . Newy lets hope for the best 👍💯

Exactly, India gas the advantage of young players plating on the street like in Brasil. let young players of 12 yrs old also play with senior teams.. they will develop fast because of this

What about poor countries in Afcon... Why War Countries like Syria, Palestine, Iraq play better than india.. they also have poor federation in old time... if football is so popular in North East, Goa, Kerala then why player of these states are not have hunger like other countries... Infact its a huge opportunity for these states player to play in Indian football why you want players from Punjab, Maharashtra, Delhi

The coaching is terrible at youth level tbh, kids are never taught about the technicalities and positioning and they are usually made to ton on running and shooting, without even teaching them proper technique.💀

Grassroots development is the long term solution. It has been in place earlier also, but there has been no implementation. Academies did produce some good talents but then there was no exposure provided to them. There have been valuable insights from everyone. But at present you just need to ponder over what Jeremy said. You need to believe in yourself. All National teams should be provided exposure regularly.

All those yapping in the comment section "cricket is only played between 7-8 countries" should know that football is already a saturated market unlike cricket . Just wait till the expansion of ipl to 30 teams and icc setting up cricket academies in countries like Russia, Iran and America happens. Then it will officialy takeover football in terms of number of viewers . Despite this happening, ipl is already the second most valuable league just behind NFL. And cricket doesn't even need more than 20 countries to rule sports industry cuz cricket already has india unlike football.... FYI information entire Europe's population is some 900 million while only india's population is 1.5 billion. And because of people like you disrespecting your own countrymen for loving cricket more will make it even harder for football to make inroads in india. So keep your fake ego aside and start improving your product ( football quality) rather than cussing cricket cuz cricket is not your problem. BCCI is a private organization which doesn't get any support or funding from the government instead it pays taxes to the government unlike stupid AIFF. Infact the tax that BCCI pays is more than the entire budget of sports ministry. So in a way BCCI is funding your AIFF.

I’m going to say just one thing which I’ve been saying for years now - If someone reading this, who’s also at an authoritative position in Indian Football Association.. WORK ON YOUTH! Inspire young talents, encourage them to seek a career in football, train them to see results in coming 12-15 years. Grassroots programs are really important and are the only way India can succeed. You can’t have the desired results in just 4-5 years, remember you are not Japan or Korea. You are way behind them at the moment. Start with kids, and provide them amazing sporting culture in India itself and make them future greats. Grassroot is the way forward!

We need 1) Academies to produce quality players every year 2) A long 10 month 50 ganes league to aid competition. 3) Selection of age group players from all the academies . To improve point number 1. Have a pool of academies from each state. If 8 states have state competition, pool central money to support those acads. 8 states each having 20 acads will be 160 numbers give a pool of 2 cr each year. GOI can give a support of 350cr a year for football acads. These players can easily play 40 games a year in their states and also play inter region compeition of another 10-15 games. Now these 160 acads will have atleast 30 players thats like 5000 players coming up the system.. Your top 2 leagues ISL and Div 2 will need 24 teams and 25 player each will mean 600 players. A professional will have a career of 15 year max, that means 40 players are required every year. That means 10% of players in acads will getinto professional system.. rest of then should be given education, coaching, technical, sports medicine, etc. so that they can contribute as well.
