What is Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) / Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM)?

Ғылым және технология

This video, explains "what is MOM / MES?" for anyone who has heard multiple terminologies like Manufacturing operations management (MOM), Manufacturing Execution systems (MES), Shop floor data collection (SFDC), production actvity control (PAC), traceability, geneology, electronic batch records (eBR) or electronic device history records (eDHR) etc.
MOM traditionally known as MES replaces legacy and siloed manufacturing systems that haven’t kept pace with demanding and ever-changing requirements of manufacturing. Manufacturers are no longer hindered by islands of automation and disjointed systems; now they can innovate, adapt and succeed. As per ISA-95 standards, MOM/MES is a mission critical technology to bridge the gap between IT and OT applications today for smart manufacturing.
The market has platform based MOM/MES software systems as well as out of the box (OOTB) software's. A platform based MES can give you enterprise wide scalability but may take time to get up to speed and running. On the other hand OOTB software's get you started instrantly and have great short term return on investment but have serious limitations for scalability and flexibility.
The video introduces MOM/MES to anyone starting their digital transformation journey in manufacturing operations management to make their factories / plant smarter.

In pharma API manufacturing especially in working area in intermediate manufacturing lot of physical activities required, all this can overcome by MES.

Definitely. eBR is a must in pharmaceutical manufacturing and MES is the right platform for electronic batch record automation and maintenance. Many pharmaceutical manufacturers especially API facilities do ask for 21CFR11 compliance and this is an area where MES software's that are compliant to 21CFR11 are usually given a preference even if they are not necessarily modernized.

Hi Thanks for watching our video. Manufacturing Execution System is automating all the information on the shopfloor making the factory paperless. An MES system obviously automated data collection from a machine or uses an user interface if the inputs have to be captured manually. If you are a shopfloor professional, the best place to learn MES would be by implemeting a software and being a part of the implementation team. Training is available by our company for those who are implementing the software in their respective organizations. For Indvidual professionals organizations like www.mesa.org or mom-institute.org have independent classroom courses to teach you concepts framework etc. Reach out to us on sales@snicsolutions.com if you work for a manufacturing company and have a need to implement an MES solution.

Thanks for your comment. An MES price is a very broad range and depends if you are buying point applications or an enterprise wide manufacturing system. We would recommend contacting our sales team on sales@snicsolutions.com to know more and also many point solutions provide their pricing on their website. You have to budget for additional services whether you plan to do it internally yourself or externally as well as IT infrastructure. In our experience, If cultural resistance exists, we always advise customers to spend cautiously and also focus on building culture as you could have the entire software be implemented but very poor adoption.
