Very nice explanation, you have a new subscriber. If I may make a few suggestions ... You say at 3:04 that if 3vldo is missing, but B+ is present then the IC should be replaced. Before that, one should remove power and check resistance to ground on the 3vldo pin. If there is no short, then the IC should be replaced. If there is a short, then that should be investigated (and yes, this ic would be a prime suspect for that as well). You did mention checking for short on the 3valw line if that voltage is missing while the B+, EN and 3vldo are present. This is usually sufficient, but if there is no short, it's good to check for 3valw voltage again while holding down the power button, as some manufacturers configure this switched voltage to only be present after power button press. Intel's DeepSx sleep states also allow various configurations to be used. So holding power button while checking, is a good way to confirm it is indeed missing. Thank you, and please keep up the great work

Thanks for great explanation! When i check my ldo3 it goes up to like 1.7v then ic chip gets hot and turns itself off. At the same time i also check ec chip's +3vlp input and its same as 1.7v as ldo3 output. So my guess i have a short on my +3vlp rail! Am i right? Any help appreciated thanks

  • @Swenser

Comparing this part, that is used to create 3val , to the pm chip that charges battery, I still don't see the need why there is the LDO 3v pin . Is it important because they are more stable with varying and lower voltages? Anything else? Oh I've just read they don't work like switching buck boost regulator so are noise healthy choice.

Are all the 3.3V LDOs interchangeable? Same question for 5V LDOs?

  • @platinumsteel6458

Very nice video my friend . I have a little question tho.If i have a situation on a intel 5th Gen Lenovo Labtop.I have 19v present . I also have 3v/5v always present. But when i press the power button i get power LED for a split second and motherboard does not start up fully. On bench power supply the same time i press power button the amps go from 60 milliamps to 100 milliamps then back down to 60 milliamps.if i press the power button again it does the same thing sequence mentioned above. Can i conclude that there is a problem with the Super IO or KBC ?

  • @FixTronics

Hello friend As long as the Super IO does respond to Power button we can say it isn't faulty. Try reprogramming the Bios and check for shorts at other power rails like the 1.8v,1.5v ,0.9v VCCSA and 0.9v VCore

  • @FixTronics

The 3v3 ldo is mostly used by the SIO ic.. any short in this rail is highly to be a bad SIO or the reg itself. Yes you can injct voltage there and see what gets hot..

LDO is a linear regulator, so if it heats up then you might have a short at the output side. Clear the short then the LDO ic will not heat up
