Not really, kingdom come was created because it was mark waid and Alex Ross who came from a generation of kids whose superheroes were seen as old fashioned while new edgy characters created by people such as specifically rob liefeld were seen as cool, and so they made a comic kinda shitting on the new heroes while showing the flaws of the old ones

Note that in almost all these Tyrannical Superman Elseworlds, it's Wonder Woman who pushes him further and further into ruthlessness.

It's sad that nowadays Superman is just a catalyst of the "what happens if this character turns evil" trope. People tend to forget he is a symbol of hope and justice. The main reason he was created to begin with. I got this novel back in comic-con 2014 and i'm so happy that altought the trials and tribulations he went trough, he managed to not get corrupted by his flaws and hate.

The answer was: everyone's bored, People bored over the idea of Superman because his message has been already told over and over again, in real life someone with absolute power like Superman Will never preserve justice At all, he will shape the world however he want without think about the cause of that action, myself included feel that Superman idea now is becoming a template over how to write a protagonist, But even Superman become evil is already mainstream even in DC itself, But it's kinda irony that Superman was supposed to be vile overpower tyrant until DC bought it and change the theme into the idea from a tyrant into the ubermenchs everyone's love.

The story itself is masterfully done, but the artwork really is on a whole other level. This is my favorite look for Superman he has ever had.

Agreed. He's looks like what he is here. A 6'3", 230lb, farm boy. A guy who's been using his muscles to do actual physical work. Not some super chiseled lifter.

I love how at the end, Clark got his glasses back symbolizing him regaining his humanity, focusing on the man rather than the super part of his name.

Basically, the Damian we know today is composite of all these "son of Batman and Talia" from various AU stories, like this one and Son of the Demon.

Kingdom Come -Where Supes ain't selfish and doesn't see Lois as the only reason to be good -Where Bats is a good friend who was always there for Supes because he understands his pain -Wonderwoman acts as a Mother/Sister to both Bruce and Clark, and she wants them to be friends not forcing them to fight -Other JL member acts as a Family than co-workers Technically Kingdom Come is Injustice but the Characters used are the ones from the Main Continuity

Injustice did things different, but you interpret things wrong. For example, Batman wasn't a bad friend in a difficult time against the person who wanted him to be the godfather of his child and Lois was definitely not 'the only reason why Superman was good'. Superman never got to grieve, and instead was encouraged to take the easy path while he was most vulnerable, when he could have otherwise become the Man of Tomorrow again after emerging from an unspeakable tragedy when the world really needed him, even after killing the Joker in an absolutely understandable sense of grief; simultaneously proving the Joker wrong and Batman right about Superman being incorruptable.

This is the BEST ending to the whole DC universe if it is ever to be done in another 20 or 30 years on film.

My favorite part of Kingdom Come is it manages to be both bleak *and* hopeful. It pulls that hopefulness of superhero comics AND adds that modern spin of bleak "Actually, superheroes would be a bad idea" without beating us over the head. It feels more like hubris than "actually humanity sucks". My second favorite part is Power Girl is absolutely jacked.

The Art... total insanity. It is almost so good it couldn't have been done by human hands.

I do believe that Kingdom Come was and is to this day the best comic book EVER. It took all those classic characters to a whole new level and the writing here is simply fantastic with mature moral dillemas taking place all the time. By the time Kingdom Come was released, DC Comics had already released Frank Miller's Ronin and Batman the Dark Knight and also the epic Crisis on Infinite Earths. Kingdom Come, artistically and narrative-wise shot for the stars and ended up being epic and a classic.

At the beginning of the novel, it says, "This novel is dedicated to Christopher Reeve, who made us believe that we can all fly." Wow that was a really beautiful story. When Diana gave Clark the glasses, Billy's sacrifice, Magog trying to raise the destroyed farm house, deep moments both hopeful and sad.

This can already be considered the most detailed storyboard with perfect lighting and color reference. If this were to become a movie trilogy by the right creative team, it would be legendary.

Favorite line is at the end. "Truth, Justice, and a NEW American way."

Still one of my all time favorite Elseworld stories. Quite possibly the gold standard every other one is held to for me. Both inspiring and equally damning considering when it came out. It was an active criticism of the edgy anti hero craze of the 90s, specifically Liefelds reign of terror. It manages to have Superman go bad and lose his way without compromising who he is deep down. It makes a point of saying “Yeah things are bad now, but the past wasn’t perfect either and you can’t stay rooted in nostalgia. Both sides need to change if we want to find any way forward.” That’s a message we sorely need in an age where one side wants to uproot everything and start clean and one side wants everything to stay the same.

Batman should be played by Michael Keaton again Superman by Bernard again maybe or you can get some other older actor to do it maybe Kevin Costner just for fun but he is probably too old. (plus it would be funny if they got Henry Cavill to play Superman in flashbacks if they got Costner) And DC can cram as many Cameos they would want from the older actors Maybe except Jack Nicholson as the Joker again which is a shame. (Michelle Pheiffer as Catwoman, Danny DeVito as Penguin you name it)

Honestly, this is my favorite DC story. There are three things I love in comics, dystopian themes like in Old Man Logan, great character building, and a good ending. This story meets all of those standards, in my opinion. It has the perfect amount of that violent edge, without being completely edgy like in Injustice. Truly, a great story in my book. It wouldn't be any more confusing than most other superhero movies, shows, etc. Whether it actually happens or not is up to the execs at WB, but that doesn't really matter. The point is, it was (and remains) a massive hit in comics, and would very likely repeat that success if it were faithfully adapted.

The art for this is phenomenal, it’s mind blowing how Alex Ross managed to churn out this many incredible looking illustrations.

This story came out when I was in my teens. It actually seemed like a good story, and a good end to the superheroes I grew up with. And the visuals are beautiful.

This story blew my mind back in the day, looking back it actually had a ton of foresight.

Spicy Take: The best "evil" versions of Superman are Soviet Dictator Superman, Nazi Superman, and when Superman pretends to be evil at the end of Superman vs The Elite. Injustice Superman is a fuckin cartoon villain. Hell, Soviet Dictator Superman and even Nazi Superman have better moral compasses and humanity despite being raised by mass murderers and monsters rather than the Injustice one who was raised by the fuckin KENTS! Soviet Superman finds out about the gulags and purges then vaporizes Stalin with his heat vision. He then is horrified, guilt ridden, and starts crying because it was the first time he took a life. Soviet Superman then shuts down the gulags and becomes the next dictator of the Soviet Union. Nazi Superman after helping the Nazis and Fascists invade and conquer the United States comes back to Europe years later to discover the Nazis death camps which disgusts and horrifies him because he realized the role he played in all of this. Nazi Superman then tears down the Nazis concentration camps. Even versions of Superman that were raised by Stalin and the Nazis grew up to be closer to the Superman we all know and love rather than the Injustice one that murders his own friends just for arguing with him! Fuck the shitty Injustice games and comics!

When Superman acted evil in the Vs Elite movie I genuinely thought it looked badass but also really freaky. I kept thinking, "He has to be acting right?" But then he does something else and my reaction was, "Thisisatrickright?!" Lol

I can see your point, but from what very little I've read/seen of Injustice I never got the impression he was THAT shallow.

Okay. This is an interesting comment First, was there a nazi superman? Wow Second, Soviet superman doesn't kill stalin. In the comics at least stalin is just killed by his son. There is no mention of gulags, superman just seems lana in a food bank line and decides to do better then stalin. Third, injustice superman is very similar to kingdom come superman where they both are slow burners. No decision they made are individually tyrannical, but their sum is. Superman killing joker after what he has done is not wrong, nor is he taking out dictators. But some of his actions make him become a monster.

@@Psy_Ro First, yes there is a Nazi Superman and he is a hell of a lot more redeemable than that THING, they refer to as "Superman" in Injustice: Gods Among Us! I recall Nazi Superman also being devastated by the loss of his cousin Kara, with emotions other than rage. Second, yes while in the comic version he doesn't kill Stalin or doesn't really kill anyone really. I do prefer the way the animated adaptation handled it showing even though Superman is a Soviet, deep down he's still Superman when showing remorse and horror at killing Stalin because it's the first time he took a human life. Third, Injustice is dogshit and is edgy for the sake of being edgy with so much Batman jerking fanfare. Even the writers for injustice don't like the way they wrote Superman, Wonder Woman, and all the other heroes and said they just needed an excuse to make a DC fighting game. Injustice really expects me to believe Superman could become this monster when I've literally listed other versions that were raised in worst settings and environments, yet even Soviet and Nazi Superman are still Superman deep in their hearts and souls! Also keep in mind in Kingdom Come, Joker murders Lois Lane and then Joker is executed publicly by Magog and Superman has him arrested and put on trial!

@@Jew-Gi-Oh_419 interesting Do you refer to videogame injustice or comics injustice? The comics go a lot in depth about it, whereas the game just shows one scene and then the future. Also, there seems to be a difference in goals when i comes to injustice vs red son Red son is about how superman is gonna be superman regardless of the context. As in, his inate goodness is able to overcome any contextual flaws, and is also a interesting pro soviet comic. Whereas injsutice comics have a different goal, and is asking "if superhuman vigilantes exist, then how much of then is enought?" Superman kills the joker after he nukes metropolis, kills louis and their unborn baby. How wrong is that considering it was the joker? Then he decides to arrest a dictator, how wrong is that? It keeps escalating, to the point that by the end of some issues, you find yourself with a fascist superman that you disagree, but can understand and agree every step it took to get him there.

I love the face wally west made when he saw Norman, i can imagine him running around the room and suddenly stopping and making one large *squek* before slowly walking and pulling the old man out of a different plane.

In my humble opinion, this and "Arkham Asylum: A Serious House On Serious Earth," are the two most visually stunning graphic novels ever made. The art style is beyond breathtaking.

I love how this story isn’t even from any particular superhero’s perspective. Despite being a massive epic story involving so many characters the focus primarily remains on a normal man, an average citizen and what a world full of people with these insane abilities and powers looks like through his eyes.
