I think Alan Watts explained it perfectly. So if with death, all memory comes to an end. Now if we imagine ourself as a singled identity which we call soul, that goes from one body to the next, but with no memory of its past lives, what is the difference between that and simply saying: a child is born. There is no difference. It is exactly the same. What funny about it is that one can come this absolute easy conclusion oneself and yet we cling on to ideas of a soul, a God, reincarnation and so on and so forth, while practically everything points out that this simply isnt the case. The ego in itself is so nonsensical and yet we constantly fall into false ideas.

The way I see the law of Karma is that your soul comes here to experience whatever it is it needs to learn. My wife and I had a miscarriage many years ago. We found it very hard to deal with. Then I listened to a Buddhist nun speak about miscarriage. She said that some souls don't need to experience a full life, they just need to experience unconditional love. We gave our unborn child unconditional love and then our child went away. That makes sense to me. This also allows understanding of darker things that occur in this world. Maybe the souls of aborted babies needed to experience being unwanted, maybe persecuted people needed to experience being hated. In a world where all these things exist and life seems so unfair, this view allows me to find some peace. I feel that there are laws in this universe that we do not understand and are not supposed to during this life, but I do believe that the purpose of this life is to love.

Krishnamurti's technique was never to give answers, but question people in the room. Someone would ask "How do you attain peace all day without negativity" and his answer would be "Who is it wants to know?", getting them to delve deeper into themselves and invariably come up with an answer they're happy with. His method works.

I see so many comments and explanation for this video. The major difference between the speaker "JK" and the people who are commenting is that JK seems to be explaining as if he has seen or at least touched that core or center. But people commenting here have only bookish or theoretical knowledge. I strongly believe this videos intention is to not give answers but rather encourage to go deep and try to touch that center.

I agree, he seems to speak from direct experience of and insight into that center, but it seems clear that he was speaking of the center as maintained merely by thought and habitual accumulation of experiences, in contrast to the liberated state of total aliveness without an illusory center

This place called reality where we find ourselves now is not the home of the soul. To understand the soul, we have to think about it in the place where it plans for this and other lives. It is there where the soul makes use of the accumulated knowledge of past lives, not here. It is the place between lives. We are not meant to have that information available to us here. But some people can access some of it sometimes. That is the nature of consciousness, and that is the subject of another comment. Another course of study, actually.

Yes the whole Ego concept is still very relevant, but we should also realize having a body in the first place is part of many of our problems .We learned a lot more about the 'carne '( flesh/ biology ) of our incarnation . We learned how hormones and other chemicals, the degradation trough old age, sickness , pain , etc on the perceived quality of our life. In my opinion, keeping one's body healthy in combination with good and medical care is something that's often waved away by a lot of these spiritual masters. That "center" that has accumulated experiences is called SOUL while it is living temporarily in a body; once it leaves the body during the process of dying, it becomes a SPIRIT, a particle that came from God himself which will live for ever and ever. It was created simple and ignorant, thru the many life times; it learns good or evil. That is when reincarnation gets into playing. Because the Love of God is Unconditional; He allows us to return here to make amendments and learn the most important lesson of all: UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. Once the SOUL achieves that Higher Level of Consciousness; IT will not need to reincarnate any more.

The problem here is using reductionist terms to explain a "process" that has no beginning or end. The story doesn't end and neither does the storyteller. We use our subject/object thinking brain to objectify or quantity a process into a thing or object. A river becomes an object, but in reality it is a process that upon observation, involves the total sum of all of its parts in relation to the entire universe - an ever-changing, non-linear, fluid phenomenon. Yet, for us, and our subject/object thinking processes it becomes an instant "object." Considering an ongoing religious and moral conflict that involves human suffering - if everything is God - then greater God does not need to apologize to lesser God. The sum is greater than its parts. The parts are indivisible from the whole. The illusion is subject/object awareness that evolution has created in the operation of our brains, and to cope with the external environment that must be met with adaptation. It is, again, the objectification of a human being (or soul) into an "object" rather than a "process."

And I could not get the answer. Later on I was googling "does river exist"? But no good results. And NOW I read your explanation and things start to add up. But I was taught this way! That then amounts to stating that a subject's suffering is as illusory as it is objectively meaningless which, however relevant relative to this illusory subject and its illusory and therefore meaningless accumulated experience, does nothing to explain a subject's experiencing as such in the first place or indeed answer the question of there being any consciousness at all. A river is a process inasmuch it takes place in time. Train of thought. Once that stops? Life's the name of the story. Evolution's the game. The storyteller is the story. Who's it told to though?

Great question. What reincarnates? It is not the personality and therefore it cannot be the physical body or the subtle bodies that make up the personality. It is also not the Absolute Being, which we really are, because It is beyond existence and does not need to reincarnate. I imagine it to be a "part" of Universal Consciousness that "reincarnates", acquiring a new physical body and new subtle bodies. Universal Consciousness is, here, the existential expression of Being. Therefore, in the final analysis, rebirth does not *really* exist, but *apparently* in the "imagination of Universal Consciousness", in our imagination, that is to say.

You got that right, to take it a step further it would be helpful to understand that krishnamurti believed that thought and time needed one another to exist. Thus, if I say that a future life awaits me (reincarnation) it's the thought put in the future that is speaking. But, thought does not continue when we die, that means that we do not take anything formed by thought with us when we die. Not our name, not our religion, not our ethnicity nothing. Then one may ask in "if anything formed by thought within time is not a fact and does not continue, then what is it that continues on reincarnation?" Krishnamurti was a firm believer that only here and now exists. If you think that you will become something in the future you create conflict with in yourself between the thought of who you are now and the thought of who you should be in the future. Time might be necessary for practical reasons, but psychological time has no reason to exists, from what krishnamurti says. The thing that confuses me the most though is that he believed in a situation that place and time does not exist, a situation one might get to know if one dies at everything, thus becoming free from thought and free from the "I". But from the talks I've seen of him, he didn't describe that situation. Maybe because he didn't want it to become another thought product, or maybe because it's something that no word can describe.

I would say reincarnation exists within the dream and keeps cycling until self realisation occurs, realising there is No I in the first place, there is only life, one life, one existence, one happening, there is no person there to be re incarnated.. The Mind believes it’s a person through conditioning, You are the essence that comes before mind…

Your karma is your memory (your accumulated thought). And you are a memory created by your Parents, and so on your parents are memory from their parents and goes on. You are not a separate individual in this universe. U are a memory. So you(this memory) can't reincarnate into a different memory by taking birth to a different parents. Because they will have their own memory received from their generation upon generation. I'm an Vedic astrology researcher, by looking very deep into a birth chart, I see completely their parents behaviour. Because astrology is your psychological mind (thought) and from that comes Action. The atmosphere & surrounding you grow up will slightly scratch your thought (memory), and that will pass your next generation.

There are no "other" bodies. Reincarnation is the movement of thought and memory that gives continuity to the illusory "center" of awareness or "self" in a body that is constantly dying and being reborn, as are all forms. It is the illusion of a continuous individual physical body is reincarnated in the mind. When the mind stops, there is no more reincarnation, no idea of life separate from death, and no "self" or "other"; only the non-dual, eternal holism, of which life is but one manifestation.

I thought he was more saying that there was a mis-attributing of our accumulated knowledge and experience as being linked to something permanent that could continue beyond our death. Rather he felt it was simply an accumulation of thoughts and experiences which will die with us. And that with this understanding comes the freedom to live freely in this life, without accumulating, without ‘experiencing’. It seems to me that, linked with the notion of ‘freedom from conditioning’, this is his view of enlightenment.

'Reincarnation' refers specifically to a realized being DELIBERATELY taking rebirth. So there is a 're' of sorts there. For example, HH 14th Dalai Lama, re-Dalai Lama over and over 14 times. But not all realized being repeat the same 'job'/'position'.

As a scientific pantheist/agnostic myself one of the most comforting teachings I've ever heard on death is something attributed to Buddha. Something like this . . . One day you're watching the sky. You see a cloud form out of the clear blue and then for a time sail along bright shinning in the sun. After a time the cloud dissipates again. You do not say the cloud came from nothing and went to nothing.

The pattern: ask the question about six or seven times with increasingly intense emphasis, ask the audience if they understand about as many times despite it being very simple, then allude to the fact that others' answers are wrong without ever clearly providing one of his own. Then finally, as the viewer, pretend that what he said was utterly profound rather than admitting the emperor has no clothes. I can already see the scathing replies to this comment. Say what you want, but I know nothing of value was imparted in this video. It's a vapid bluff. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Do you actually know nothing of value was imparted? Or have you simply not found it yet? Understanding requires an open mind, and persistence through lack of understanding. The discomfort of not understanding makes you run to the comfort of your thoughts and knowledge, and you will never find peace or understanding through these means.

He accuses those that believe in reincarnation of believing it because they need comfort. I'd take that as HE does NOT.

Wow, so he didn't say anything substantial about reincarnation here. He just got to the point were people die and how that changes your mind and then the video stops...

Yes. Disappointed. And although he was considered so saintly etc I do wish he wouldn't keep saying "Right?" To his audience. Why do people do that?

Dry. His personal theory. He doesn't actually know anymore than anyone else, perhaps less than some who may have experienced certain things.

No one really knows. And so far, that is the only fact on the matter.

The "center accumulated by thought" is the freudian Ego, which he seems to be saying does *not* get "reincarnated" but instead becomes the "center of God." But really, he is all over the map here and it is hard to say what he means. Which it is why it sounds profound! But obscurantanism ain't the way, to paraphrase Stevie Wonder, and "reincarnation" is no less superstitious than Christianity's resurrection of the body. "Right? Are you following me?"

Karmic records. But he has missed out that enlightened people can see their past lives. Also nowadays past Life is proved in therapy

There is no karmic record or enlightened people when you realise all is one and you don't exist as a separate entity. That's what feels true to me atleast 🙏🏼

That's okay, push onwards through your lack of understanding and it will come in time, it takes very much strength to say "I do not understand" and to move forwards seeking understanding. Keep studying Krishnamurti and practicing meditation, understanding comes when thought stands still.
