What's your favorite fruit? We tried the platanos machos in our morning smoothies...they tasted a little off. Next time we will try a different variation of banana/platano 😃

Mango! ; D Amigos, para sus smoothies son mucho mejor la manzana, pera, naranja, toronja, plátano pero nunca el macho porque este es más como para postre o comida y los puedes freir o empanizar. Saludos ; D

For 16 - 24 oz. of tomato paste: 5 pounds tomatoes 1 teaspoon fine sea salt 1/2 to 1 cup extra-virgin olive oil Large pot Food mill or large sieve (Large rimmed baking pan - for oven reduction) 1. Roughly Chop the Tomatoes (very ripe - better flavor) - discard excess liquid. 2. Cook the Tomatoes - Bring the tomatoes to a boil over high heat. Add the olive oil and fine sea salt and cook, stirring constantly just until tomatoes soften, about 2 minutes. This brief cooking helps break the tomatoes down a bit and makes them easier to run through a food mill or sieve. 3. Purée and Strain the Tomatoes - Run the cooked tomatoes through a food mill or push them through a large sieve with a flexible spatula, to turn the tomatoes into a pulp while also removing the skins and seeds. 4. Reduce the Tomato Purée - If you don't have an oven or are simply willing to be around to monitor and stir the pot very regularly for a few hours, reducing tomato paste on the stove isn't a big deal. You want a very low and steady simmer and you need to check on the tomatoes and stir them every 20 minutes or so, being sure to scrape down the sides of the pot as the mixture goes lower and lower. Checking it regularly is key to keeping it from scorching, as is cooking it in as heavy a pot as you can find. An enameled cast iron pot and a set timer to remind you to stir are ideal. The whole process will take several hours. If using oven, 150C/300F for about 3 hours (depending on amount of water in tomatoes). Stir every 20 mins. or so to prevent scorching. 5. Transfer the Tomato Paste to Jars - refrigerate or use immediately.

How big is your fridge? Find a source for real yoghurt. Do a big basics shop, Costco or other: TP, cleaning supplies, a case of canned tomatoes, tuna, Ziplocks, etc. Make some tomato sauce, etc. Buy produce from the pickup truck people absolutely. You can be friends. Do not use Canola oil, it’s a highly refined industrial lubricant. Everybody uses it. It’s cheap. Another good reason to eat at home and remember most of the local produce is basically organic. Provecho.

Hi Hillary and Greg. Glad to see you back in your favorite mexican place. About the Plátanos machos (plantains bananas) you do not prepare smoothies with them. If the plantains are green (plátano macho verde) you can cut them in small circles, flatten them and friend them to get "tostones", because they look like big old coins. You add a little salt on the friend tostones. If the plantains are ripe you cut them along side and friend them too. The final result is that you get salty tostones and sweet maduros fritos. Plantains are a very important part of the Caribbean, Central American and some South American diets. Su español es cada vez mucho mejor.

Speaking from San Miguel, your prices do seam a little bit high for the produce. The chicken and tortilla prices seem right. I think it will it be more cheaper if you buy a spaghetti sauce, instead tomato can sauce. Why cause it has all the spices and ingredients in one can, the only you have to add is pepper and garlic. Also try V8 juice brings flavor to your meals...Salud !

There is a lady that sits on the left side of the market that has great homemade cheese's and good price's. As for tbe tomato paste. We would find it on our walk up from the orange bus stop and pick up spot by oxox. We get the best bacon. And butter from the inside of that market. We eat a lot of fish and shrimp from that market. And we freeze some to bring home you don't get shrimp that big in the usa.
