Fluke Clamp Meters: What Is Inrush Current And Why Do I Care?
Featuring Fluke 370 Series and Fluke 381
A Clamp Meter combines a current clamp with the basic functions of a digital multimeter (DMM). Clamp the "jaw" around a conductor to measure current.
Fluke 370 Series:
Be ready for anything.
The Fluke 374 True-rms Clamp Meter can read up to 600 V and 600 A in both AC and DC modes. Additionally, the 374 is compatible with the new iFlex flexible current probe (sold separately), which increases the measurement range to 2500 A AC and provides increased display flexibility, and improved wire access. Fluke 381:
All the bells and whistles:
The Fluke 381 is the first clamp meter with a detachable, remote display and iFlex flexible current probe for easier, faster, safer measurements.
Be ready for anything:
The new Fluke 381 does everything you would expect from a clamp meter, and then lets you remove the display for even more flexibility. Now one technician can do jobs that used to require two people. Clamp the Fluke 381 around a conductor, remove the display and walk across the room to operate controls or remove protective equipment, all while watching real-time readings.
The new iFlex flexible current probe (included) expands the measurement range to 2500 A ac while providing increased display flexibility, ability to measure awkward sized conductors and improved wire access. More: www.tequipment.net/Fluke381.html

How about proper instantaneous switching of voltage at exactly the input power factor angle?

The cycle measurements I assume is the difference between max and in rush measurements?

7.7/2.4 =3.2 times the running current. 4-10x is common. I wonder how this differs in transformers and machines. PTs vs CT and different size transformers? You suggest that the meter does not measure the transient currents peak inrush. So what is in capturing with the 7.7?

How would the inrush current function work measuring DC such as an automotive starter motor. Since there aren't any cycles to count, is is purely based integration over some fixed time or is there some type of logic used?
