What is Identity and Access Management (IAM) in the Cloud?

Join Bart as he digs into modern practices around identity and access management in cloud computing and enterprise architectures. You’ll learn about identity management features like federated identities, single sign-on, and multi-factor authentication, and how these features safeguard sensitive information for individuals and organizations.
Identity and Access Management, commonly known as IAM, refers to a comprehensive framework of policies, technologies, and processes utilized by organizations to manage digital identities and control resource access. IAM encompasses vital aspects such as user identity administration, authentication, authorization, and privilege management. IAM systems enhance security and streamline user management by ensuring appropriate access to resources at the right time.

How secure is this in practice?

Extremely as long as those identities are protected! Think about it this way, it’s way way better than having users create individual accounts all over the place.

Can be quite secure, I've worked in the IAM field for about three years and notice that automating provisioning/deprovisioning users using an IAM system is already contributing a lot to security. When someone leaves the organisation, you need to revoke all of their access. Hard to do if this person has many accounts all over the organisation, and easy to forget. With IAM you centralize the identities of your user, and make it easier to manage them. Just make sure your IAM Platform is not compromised ;).

@@TRguy58 that's exactly were my concerns lay, if the platform gets hacked or leaks data, all information is centralized.
