    this might sound silly, but after having watched this video, i feel a little like i might cry (in a good way, lol). i've been trying to do more helpol research to see if this is the path i want to take, and despite my self doubt and heavily ingrained skepticism wrt religion and spirituality (thanks, christianity), it feels like everything is pointing to this. like it has been for years. research has been rough though, because it seems like every time i come across something explaining one concept, it introduces several more i haven't heard of, so it makes the whole thing kind of hard to understand. i was starting to despair last night, afraid i might just not be cut out for this, but then i found this video and it was exactly what i wanted. thank you so much.

    @@anchorthesun3438 hey there i know you feel the need to defend Christianity but the commenter never attacked christianity. They simply stated where they were coming from. And even in orthodoxy and catholicism you can find some pretty hateful, wrathful and harmful ideologies and doctrines. Which is not to say you share in those as you are an individual; we’re not talking about you but rather the christian mythos as a whole. The bible says (and this is in every current translation even) that there are multiple gods but that christians and jews are to worship only the one (annnnd it didnt always say that either it used to include a wife of god) this person has for whatever reasons (which are often incredibly personal) realized that the abrahamic god is not the one who calls upon them. That’s actually ok. Many a religion believes their religion is the only right one and i am sure you believe that of yours but other people are allowed to believe as they wish and to do so without your approval or agreement. Beliefs no matter how much we revere them or how strongly we hold them are opinions and not facts. You are ok i promise; as is anyone perusing a religion that isn’t your. No one is required to see the world the same as you nor are you required to see it the way anyone else does. That said kindness goes a long way no matter what religion your in or joining.

    What an honest and informative video, thank you! 🙏🏼 I was raised as a Christian, but my Dad always had a deep love for Greek Mythology, despite his faith… 10 years ago I had a series of dramatic dreams, in one of which I destroyed the Kabbalistic Tree Of Life by smashing it onto the ground. Another dream showed me the "true trinity", with Κέρβερος being the Highest Power above all. I didn't expect my life to go this way… but the violent and savage aspects of Hellenism have become extremely attractive, aided furthermore by training my body to reflect that of a Greek Warrior. 😈 Great video, once again!

    I am an Amazigh. My ancestors are Carthaginians. Unfortunately there is nothing left of Amazigh polytheism and punic religions that my ancestors practiced before Christian and Arab colonization. Hellenismos is the closest thing I have of what they practiced before Abrahamic colonization. I abandoned Islam for Hellenistic polytheism. Instead of Allah I now worship the Greek gods especially the goddess Hera and I have never been more happier and spiritually fulfilled.

I believe in one of Aliakai's videos she at mentions how Haides ruled over funerary rites and practices. And I just find it interesting how it seems like some deities such as Haides, Apollon and Thanatos don't seem to be ...bothered by the death related miasma.

    @@FeltheBlithe To tell the truth (and I'm a little ashamed of this...) I really don't know how the Greeks felt about the dead, other than of course, having concepts of miasma, I'm sure they didn't like having them around. As far as the Egyptians, it's interesting...the physical dead body was very important to a successful after life in that the spirit (either ba or ka...can't remember witch) came back to it, but there was also a big separation of the dead from the living. The Pharos were housed in vaults and pyramids and the lower classes were kept in the necropolis on the other side the the Nile...which is also where the funerary priests resided, so I'd guess that there was some "miasmic idea." However I doubt it was seen a as a substance, but rather a fear of interfering with the business of the dead. ...I digress...but I'm also a psych major which makes we wonder about the subconscious tendency of all peoples to instinctually avoid the dead... Anyway...Keep going on the vids. I've watched a bunch and I enjoy your style, as well as you attention do detail.

    @@costumeink147 i never knew Apollon doesn't mind miasma. Is it because of texts referring him as the bringer of violent deaths through his arrows? (While his sister, Artemis, is the bringer of peaceful deaths through her arrows.) Specifically the myth where Artemis and Apollo avenge their mother's name.

    As a Muslim, I strongly believe that it is unjust for believers to impede others from forming their own beliefs. God has granted us free will, and no one should impose their beliefs on others. If someone genuinely believes that Allah is the ultimate truth, I am confident that Allah would not punish those who seek the truth, even if they were unable to fully embrace it before passing away. A verse from the Quran supports this: "Whoever chooses to be guided, it is only for their own good. And whoever chooses to stray, it is only to their own loss. No soul will bear the burden of another's sins, and Allah will not punish a people until He has sent a messenger to warn them."

    Hey now? What was the issue with mixing epithets? My admittedly surface level understanding was that you could mix them as a way of acknowledging the wide ranging power of the god of goddess in question.

  • @FeltheBlithe

    @FeltheBlithe

    2 жыл бұрын

    I was referring to best practice being not calling in the ouranic and chthonic aspect in the same ritual, as they were generally done separately, mixing other epithets is fine. Generally the idea was that you were using an epithet to essentially signal *which* aspect of the god you were referring to. So calling in the Psychopomp (chthonic) aspect of Hermes when you are doing a ritual for Hermes of the Marketplace doesn't make much sense. If you're just praising Hermes in general, I don't see a problem with mixing, but when offerings get involved, things can become contentious

But having also grown up in the age of contemporary skepticism, I find a gulf between the appeal that the mythology has aesthetically and my need to demonstrate the factual basis of whatever I believe. How do you view the gods and so forth and what gets you to that position?

    Hello, just wanted to put in my two cents on the idea of casting a circle and it not being accurate. Temples and places of ancient practice were dedicated using a bunch of purification ceremonies and rituals. In my mind (and this is just me) using a ritual, even a fairly modern one, to create a cleansed space that you can then dedicate to whatever god/gods you are calling on is the polite thing to do. But again that's just how I think of it.

  • @FeltheBlithe

I seem to follow a Mediterranean system that includes Slavic and indigenous Siberian elements. One might think of the country of Turkey (considering its complex past), but that doesn't quite work. The Britannica entry on Hellenistic religion describes a period from 300BC to 1AD that almost exactly describes the changes from Judaism to Christianity. It even mentions changing a national deity to supreme deity which is what happened to Yahweh. Seems like Christianity and all the mystery religions are religions influenced by Hellenism. The prophet or saviour replaced the priest and king as the chief religious figure. In the diasporic centres, as is generally characteristic of immigrant groups, there were two circles. The first (or inner circle) was composed of devout, full-time adherents of the cult for whom the deity retained a separate and decisive identity ( those of Yahweh, Zeus Serapis, and Isis).
