Ford is a much loved brand in India , and has been around for much longer than the 25 years that most of us associate the brand's Indian journey with. Of late, we have been hearing lots of news about the brands failed joint venture and their plans to leave the country for good. In this video, we talk about the history of Ford in India, from the 1930's onward, their offerings in the recent past and what their current and future plans are.

    You guys are bang on! As a 2016 Figo owner, it’s sad to see how Ford is performing in India currently. They make such good and affordable cars. They need to start putting some significant efforts with newer models if they have to survive in India.

    പറഞ്ഞിട്ട് കാര്യം ഇല്ല... Ecosportinte അത്രേം വരാത്ത ടാറ്റ Nexon... എന്നിട്ട് ജൂൺ sales എടുത്ത് നോക്കിയാൽ EcoSport 500. Nexon 8000 മുകളിൽ... എന്ന് വിജാരിച്ച് EcoSport മോശം വണ്ടിയാണോ... സർവീസ് വലിയ കുഴപ്പം ഇല്ല. Reliable ആയ engine.... Nexon വെച്ച് compare ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ value for money... പക്ഷേ അവർ പുതിയ മോഡൽ ഇറക്കില്ല... Fordinte ഫിഗോ facelift ചെയ്തപ്പോൾ ടച്ച്സ്ക്രീൻ എടുത്ത് കളഞ്ഞു... പിന്നെ ആ വണ്ടി Indiyail വിറ്റു പോകും എന്ന് തോന്നുന്നുണ്ടോ .. engine ഇല്ലെങ്കിലും sunroof ഉണ്ടെങ്കിൽ വിറ്റു പോകും Indiyail 😂. ഫോർഡ് നന്നായി ഇന്ത്യക്കാരോട് ചോദിച്ച് നല്ല models ഇനിയും ഇറക്കണം... ഇതിപ്പോ അവർക്ക് ഒരു താൽപര്യം ഇല്ല... എന്നൽ ടാറ്റ ഇപ്പൊ അങ്ങനെ അല്ല... അവരുടെ വണ്ടി നന്നായി വിറ്റു പോകുന്നുണ്ട്... അതുകൊണ്ട് അവർക്ക് വണ്ടി ഇറക്കാൻ ഇനിയും ആവേശം ആണ്.. ഫോർഡ് ശെരിക്കും 90 percent ചത്തു പോയി... പിന്നെ interior ആയാലും EcoSport ഒഴിച്ച് ബാക്കി വണ്ടിയുടെ interior ആ സെഗ്മെൻ്റിൽ അത്ര ഭംഗി ഒന്നും ഇല്ല... ഇതൊക്കെ sales ബാധിക്കും... Engine എല്ലാം പക്ക ആണ്... Tdci വേറെ ലെവൽ... 🔥🔥 ഇപ്പൊ ഫോർഡ് വേണേൽ എടുത്താൽ മതി എന്നുള്ള ചിന്ത ആണ്... എഡിറ്റ്: ടാറ്റ Nexon 7 അയലത്ത് വരില്ല എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞത് ഇച്ചിരി കൂടി പോയി... വണ്ടി ഞാൻ test-drive എടുത്തത് ആണ്... ഡീസൽ വേറെ ലെവൽ ആണ്... പെട്രോൾ 1സ്റ് gearil ഒക്കെ അത്ര സുഖം ഇല്ല.... പിന്നെ ഇപ്പൊ വരുന്ന ടാറ്റ തരക്കേടില്ല... നല്ല sales ഉണ്ട്... സർവീസ് പക്ക ശോകം...

    They never made excellent cars . First generation figo and previous generation fiesta were plagued with injector and other other engine issues . My uncle had a figo .

    I still love when driving the ecosport, that too during my recent trip to Kerala during the lockdown with not many vehicles on road, i really got the chance to test it across the curves to the Cochin stretch. Never ever wud you feel to buy any other car after driving this. But the major concern has been the rear comfort. Only suitable for two people at back and also rear suspension tuning is such a way that you experience roll on rough roads and passengers gets tossed around. Given the torsion beam and shorter wheel track, there was more roll on rough roads. But it is a perfect driver's power house.

    This video brought out some golden memories, thanks a lot guys. My dad had a 1997 model ontario blue ford escort bought from Pondicherry (cars were cheaper there) and the registration was PY 01J 8334. That was the first car i drove when i got my license in 2000. ❤️❤️❤️. Then i took a ford ikon 1.3 flair in 2004 when i got a job in Cochin. It was with me till 2010. ❤️❤️.

    10yrs ആയി use ചെയ്യുന്നു breaking issues ഇതുവരെ ഉണ്ടായിട്ടില്ല. Breakpad, cylender, fluid change ചെയ്‌തതല്ലാതെ. Maruthi ഫാൻ ആയിരിക്കും😉

    @@unnitkumbalath Can't say. Ecosport haven't been tested in GNCAP. A proper thud and solid feel can't be associated to safety in every case.

    @@Govind-dv5vc As per my understanding GNCAP test is a crash test and which assess the impact. There are cars capable with safety features like Active Roll over prevention. When you call safety, its not only crash test rating.

    Having owned the Ikon for some time, and with a Fiesta in the family, and being the current owner of a Figo 1.5 diesel, I completely agree with the products losing its DNA. The Figo while decent in handling and steering feel, is nowhere close to the Ikon or Fiesta in these departments. I still have fond memories of the Ikon steering and handling (except for body roll). Will ford continue in India? I don't think even Ford knows the answer to this perhaps. While I agree to your points on what Ford needs to do, to succeed in India, the main issue is whether a behemoth like Ford NEEDS to succeed in India today, as India is not a big market for them. Hyundai and Suzuki NEED India, as it is one of their biggest markets. But for Ford, GM, Toyota, succeeding in India is probably not worth it today. So these managements probably don't see value in the Indian market with low margins, difficult business environment etc. They would be better off consolidating their major markets, cut losses in small markets, and wait for another day to enter. Maybe they will keep the factory as an export hub.

    First of all kudos to you for a good , knowledgeable chat.Never felt bored for a long conversation. IAM a proud EcoSport owner.Gives me great pleasure while at the wheels.The build quality,handling and the steering is extremely good. But feel sorry for their current state of affairs. A campaign can be initiated to save Ford in India..

    I felt really claustrophobic when I sat in the rear of the global fiesta, they also gave a lower state of tune to the 1.5 diesel (everyone expected 100+bhp for the global fiesta)but everyone who drove one absolutely loved it...

    Excellent subject. thanks for the video.The most irritating thing in ecosport is back seat drive quality is pathetic. The Failure with Ford and toyota are almost similar, they underestimated the Indian customers and cut down the quality and made cheap, whereas Indian manufactures have been improving. Many manufactures they tried to become another Maruti and make cheap cars but they lost their DNA and miserably failed. Ford, Toyota, Renault are having their own customers, they lost it because of this change in strategy. Another thing, Can you do a video on Skoda India's operations ? One of the foreign companies respects Indian customers. There's a common misunderstanding on Skoda due to their pior history, but it's much improved now at least in Kerala. need to improve a lot but still better that earlier, thanks to Zac Hollis

    They didn't underestimated Indians. India is a poor and developing country and here people are very price sensitive. Indian people needs Affordable yet Reliable budget cars for their day to day runs, remember india is not europe not everyone has the money to buy European cars. From 2004 to 2020 the highest selling car in india is Alto which costs around 4lakhs so you can guess easily. You mentioned brands like Ford, Toyota, Renualt doesn't have globally affordable budget cars to offer so they need to make a car specifically design for india, so obviously by doing this their strong points will loose. Then about Maruti suzuki, Globally Suzuki has affordable yet reliable budget friendly cars that suits indian needs, same thing indian people wants, that's why they have more Success than anybody in india.

    @@aravindar522 Leave those cheap budget hatchbacks aside. Agree that foreign manufactures they don't have models to introduced into a price sensitive markets like India. The things are changing now, it's not year 2000. The young Indian generation is concerned about the safety and quality, and demanding more. How many young people (those who does well analysis on cars) opt for Maruti/hyndai Cars now? When T etios/liva introduced they initially targeted Indian youth, were they fools or what? But look at Tata, M&M, VAG. how they are playing here? Is there anything highly compromised in their 10-15L models? How Tata improved from so many failures (though the company is in debt). Agreed that M&M products are rebranded, but now they are far better than their verito. These manufactures are serious in Indian market and they have marketing strategy and vision, they respect Indian customers, others are lagging behind.

    @@jijo2641 Tata and Mahindra has only Safety ratings to play in social media that's it. Other than that there is nothing to write home about their cars, they are average at best. Safety is just one factor of an car, An car is linked with many factors Quality, Reliability, peace of mind, after sales and service support, efficiency etc. Even after these years they can't reach the level of Maruti suzuki or Hundai Interms of Engineering finace, engine quality, reliability or durability. Maruti suzuki and Hyundai is giving Quality cars since decades that's why people have so much trust in them, they will hold their positions in india. Indian's have more emotional attachment to Maruti Suzuki cars than indian brand cars. Social media comments and real world is different.

Yeah agreed that their service networks are not as good as Maruti/hyndai in some places. Not sure where did you get these info, things are getting changed now, market share of Maruti itself degrading 5.5% YoY, Maruti will be another Nokia if they are not changing.

    @@jijo2641 tiago's petrol feels and sounds like an auto , swift 1.2 engine is excellent. Nexon diesel cant be compared to butter smooth venues's 1.5 diesel. As a top up tata's ridiculous after sales.Dq200 is probably the worst automatic transmission in the world , there are thousands of lawsuits around the world ,for which vag have paid so much in compensation.Dq200 was so unreliable in polo in india , they withdrew it . But in skoda kushaq 1.5 they have come with dq200 again which was earlier withdrawn from india!!its sure many kushaqs will be dead with busted transmission . Maruti & hyundai have unmatched quality control ( not necessarily quality) compared to tata& mahindra

    I still drive a Figo 1. 4 diesel titanium which I bought in June 2010 when it was launched. As pointed out in the video service cost is also less. Absolutely impeccable handling and dynamics. They could have brought Focus into india.. Some how Indian customers are led by mass populism...

    Bought ecosport in 2013 and just drove it for 100 kms today 11 jul 2021 still the dna of ford has never given up to bring a smile on my face after 8 long years. Loyal ford fan now but for its survival it should launch a car between ecosport and endeavour which is a fuckin 25 lakhs price gap Put something like territory bw 16 to 20 lakhs it will revive ford india

    I have driven Ford Explorer, Edge and Figo and the driving feel of these ford cars are such that the level of confidence at higher speeds is immense especially the steering feel and feed back. Those who enjoy driving will love ford cars. Their build quality and attention to safety standards are always appreciated. Ford.. please bring newer models. We would love to see Escape, Edge, Kuga, Puma on Indian roads.

    In fact ford fiesta global was launched in 2011 ( ex owner :) ) and ecosport was launched in 2013. I still miss my global fiesta. It was pure driving pleasure under 15 lakhs.

    my experience with a Ford - Went to buy a second hand fiesta. Saw the car. loved it. Got out of the owners house. Met with an accident. Broke my ankle. Was on bedrest for a month. That car got sold to someone else. I bought an Accent 1.5. Fantastic Car.

    I own 2 Fords Figo and Fusion. Ford user for last 15 years. Like you said now there is no model option for me to change . I see a host of other car models for my choice to change over. Very Sad. Been a user of Ford for last 15 years and still love the strong build and driving dynamics. Still not a rattle out of my Fusion and the dealer helps keep it fit. Used it to travel all over Karnataka and Kerala.

    Extremely valid point about Hyundai. It is incredible what Hyundai has done in India. Textbook stuff for brand building and marketing I think. I expect 'Talking cars' to talk about the success of Hyundai in India as well. Been using the i20 elite petrol for 6 years now. 1,20,000 kms done and dusted. A smooth operator! Extremely satisfying experience and support. Even when I had few complaints, it was addressed well by Hyundai. Though I dream about an upgrade to an enthusiast's driving machine or rather any other overseas/Indian brand, the reality is I might end up with another Hyundai as they have treated me so well so far!

    Using Ford figo tdci 2015 .. 87000km done.. Excellent vechicle.. Drivability is far better than swift.. Service also reasonable.. Getting around 22km/ltr..one of the quickest to 0-100 in the segment.. Only problem was the ground clearance..they improved it in freestyle.

    My first car was a Ford Focus (in Dubai), and just like most Ford's the ride & handling was thoroughly enjoyable! With regards to the Indian market, I sincerely hope that Ford's con-FUSION comes to an end. They need to improve their FOCUS, ESCORT some of their great cars in to our shores, to have a winning EDGE in our market. Wishing Ford the very best with their future ENDEAVOUR's in India.

    Ford ecosport 1.5 diesel owner since 2014 lovely car, it's running for 1,64,000 no bigger issues, only some power loss due to the kms but the build and handling was perfect.the whole family loves the vehicle,still my father sitting on gla is not fine he says ecosport is good. So many people's tell when decided to take Ford, Ford is expensive, service not good but all things get opposite when the car owned.good service and also never got heavy bill even ecosport are cheaper to maintain than a Exactly the point jayd said there no car to upgrade after ecosport there is endeavour but it's so much price difference between ecosport and also Diesel automatic on ecosport will be good also with some interior change that will make good sales and a car between ecosport and endeavour.That feature missing thing when ecosport titanium there was no handrest on normal titanium but when vehicle delivered the car there is handrest 😂.

    I own a Ford Ecosport, it is said that once you drive a ford you will not look at any other brand. I should say, to enjoy a ford car only you should drive it. It needs to be felt. After owning a Maruti and a Hyundai, I would say with absolute authority that the Ford is cheaper to maintain, the diesel ones. I truly like the brand but their denial to "India" is concerning.

Segment vere ആണെങ്കിലും ഇക്കോ യോട് മുട്ടാൻ യോഗ്യത ഉള്ളവൻ ആ പഴയ polo ആണ്... അവള് നല്ല കരുതുള്ളവൾ തന്നെ....

    I am using a 2010 Figo TDCI titanium till today. The best car avilable for that price. All Ford cars have crumpled zone which protects the driver in case of a collision. 170 kmph max speed attained. Upto 26 km per litre mileage.

    Talking Cars's audience also is good ....getting proper comments wow ✌️ Ford always keeping the quality....I'm using FIGO from 2010 ....but the service cost is too high ☺️but it's a well built car ...I think forg figo is used as the rally car in Europe . Maybe it's the reason which the breaks are something fluffy. And it's a great car💥

    I have recently bought Ford Freestyle and it has chosen based on truly test drive comparison. I can still say, there is no car other than Polo to compare with Freestyle on it's performance including Hyundai i20.

    Driving the Agile Ford figo 1.4 TDCi Titanium. since 7 years. Accurate as a dart ,one of the finest handling cars in its segment or a segment above. Brakes on the titanium are nothing bad to write about , upgrade options available in plenty like brembo etc , had tried once as well. Stock pads do justice too. Downer being the traditional 1.4 mill, which became start to feel even worse after driving the 1.5tdci. so compensated to an extend with a stage 1+ remap (max pushed) , decat , and a manual boost controller. Td'ed new figo and cancelled the plan of selling 1.4 TDCi. Good video .. vivek & Jayadev.

    Great car you got there. Titanium variant has decent brakes. Wish they had an intercooler fitted on the 1.4 tdci.

    I drive a 2012 model ford figo. I don't even know where the lever is to lift the bonnet 90,000 kms not a single issue. Excellent audio system as well.

    After Fiat,Ambassador, Maruti, I switched over to Ford, had three Figos, all Titanium, really good cars and safe to drive, the car now I have is an Aspire Diesel, Titanium, have done 50 k,kilometres, I'm stuck in Dubai for the last two years, hopefully returning in December, my friend is using the car, just didn't want to keep it idle, and he does periodic service at Ford, I'm 70 now, and when I return planning to buy a Honda City, petrol automatic, what'd you suggest. I fully understand its the driver not the car.

    Honda idsi. That’s the City with the twin spark plug per cylinder engine. Came out in 2003 and was sold till 2008.
