Thank you!!! I find Saucony Endorphin Speeds have been the best - will have to look into the Shift!

Thank you guys! I have hallux limitus, would recommend Skechers - great rocker on Ride and Max Road. The arch support also helps. Very glad we have plated super shoes so I can race in a stiffer shoe, caveat being too stiff and I tip ONTO my toe causing more pain. So plated shoe with moderate flex feels best - Endorphin Speed, Puma Nitro Elite have been good.

I have a limited big toe as an aftermath of bunionectomy. It is getting better over time but it's good to think about what shoes to use

Nike infinity react 3 is also nice as the upper is super flexible, and fits almost every foot as it is socklike. The shoe has a sligjt rocker but is not stiff at all and thus accomodates a lot of footshapes in terms of toe spring. I have run in these with a hallux rigidus for a couple of months now and it has helped me a lot.

Thanks so much for the video gentlemen. In looking for (and not finding) the suggested Saucony Shift 3, I came across the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 25 at the local running shoe shop. Would you say this shoe falls at all into the rocker territory? Do you have an opinion on it on how it would be for someone with Hallux Rigidus?

Funny you mentioned the Glide ride because I never had an issue till I used the 1st version and slowly started developing some pain and I can't pinpoint when it became so bad but that was the shoe I was using. The pain sucks. hard to hike and learn to slightly supinate. Nike Infinity React 2s have become my best shoes. v3 more were too plush but managed to make em work due to $$$. Skechers are good, I feel like the plate its a stiffness to reduce lateral movement. I gotta try the Shift/Speed 3s. Went to a podiatrist and was prescribed 2 types orthotics that slightl have a dent for my toe to rest down on so it doesnt extend as much as my other toes that are regular. One has a carbon plate along the toe side and the other is like a full corkscrew type thing. I've yet to find a shoe that could accommodate them but I prefer to only use them for work/non-running shoes. Costly injury bc I've had to go up a size or half-size.

Hello, Excellent video. One question: "What do you think of Hallux Rigidus shoe plate inserts? I've seen these for sale as a carbon or steel plate that you can insert into your running shoe to assist with stopping the big toe from bending...?"

Didn’t quite understand if the shift is a great example of one to pick, or a great example of one that has toe spring and I should avoid

Is it safe to wear an orthotic with a hoka shoe? Does the metarocker essentially make it a stability shoe?

Interesting video guys - I’m finding the Saucony Pro 3 and Speed 3 works really well for me with my Hallux Limitus. Do you think the Brooks Hyperion Max would be a good non-plated option here too or no?

With hallucinations limited - do you recommend orthotics? Can a person where plated shoe for a slow walk/run ? If so what is the difference between Endorphin Shift v Speed? Thank you

I suffered from Hallux Rigidus as a side effect of a cycling shoe induced bunion; the joint lost mobility as a result of the bunion. Experienced minimal issues with that toe in the Hoka Clifton 6, but had really good results in the Saucony Endorphin Shift 2 and the Adidas Boston 10. The Boston 10 is a really stiff shoe and the rocker wasn’t awkward while standing or running in the shoe; I don’t think that shoe gets enough credit. The Endorphin Speed/Pro v1-3 also had good results for me, but the Speed series is more flexible than the Shift or the Pro.

I have hallix ridgitis. Been suffering with this for about a year now. I just got a steroid injection today to help with the discomfort while walking. I do CrossFit, and I really do not want to give it up. I’ve been wearing On Clouds, which I initially really liked. Got pricing custom orthotics. I’ve been changing some of the high impact exercises to avoid jamming my toe. Would you recommend new balances for HITT as well??

This is probably way too late. The Via Olympus is quite firm and lot of stack for protection. My big problem with this shoe is my right foot needs a shoe with lot of vertical volume as shoes put too much pressure on top of my right foot causing me a lot of pain on top of my foot. They did good for my Hallux Rigidus for the most part. I tried all kinds of lacing schemes and different kinds of laces to try and help with top of my foot pain. The Torins have way too much flex in the forefoot and the soles are too soft for me. I have not tried the Paradigm, so I can’t comment on those. I like the Torin, but just too soft and too much flex for me to use outside of casual wear. I can’t use real soft, bouncy type shoes because I had 3 back surgeries and they cause too much jarring of my lower spine, especially on downhills. I have not got to try the new Via Olympus 2 or the new Altra FWD. Best of luck to you in finding something that works for you.

Yeah, and yuck 🤢 Matt’s nail biting obsession is distracting and makes the video icky to watch. Please get some form of nail bite solution before making another video. It comes off as unprofessional and gross to many when you’re unable to control this sort of urge/issue on camera for such a limited amount of time 😅
