    I was a huge supporter of reptile carpet…UNTIL this video. I used it for convenience cause I could just toss it in the wash when it was dirty and alternate between a few. Today for the tank cleaning I will be doing the 50/50 mix of top soil/sand you recommended! Also convinced me to go ahead and spend the money now for proper UVB instead of just waiting it out. She’s in a 40g now but around the 1 year mark will be getting her something you recommended earlier in the video! Thanks mate!

    I know I seem like I'm stalking you, but just want to say thank you for all of the help your videos have been since I took over my daughter's lizard. So far I have converted her tank to a bioactive enclosure, and she has been way more active and extremely happy. She just started digging all over the place, and she seems to be having a blast. This week I am fixing her lighting situation, and then the search is on for a larger tank. Thanks again, and I'm looking forward to seeing more videos and bugging you in 2024!

    What do you think of the Exo Terra Solar Glo 125w lamp in terms of uv-b? We adopted an adult beardie and got his accommodation with it but the lamps that were installed were kinda shitty. We went to a store, we saw the t5 lamps you suggested but no fixtures to put them in. So we chose that Solar Glo lamp because we needed a quick fix. Before, he was always sitting as close as possible to the lamp (actually touching the mesh on top) because it was just not giving enough heat and uv-b i guess. Now with this lamp installed he sits much more comfortably and he sits a lot lower in his terrarium to bask. So i think it's okay, but i just want to be sure. If it's not okay i will just order the t5 on the internet immediately but if the Solar Glo is okay i will wait a few months, so i can get my moneys worth out of this expensive ass lamp :p Thanks in advance! Your videos has learned us everything we know so far about beardies :D

    I recently purchased a bearded dragon and this video was very helpful! I unfortunately did purchase some of the things that you said were bad. However I’ll be looking into fixing it. Is that normal?

  • @ChiefSweetsUniverse

    Yes that is normal for dragons who just moved. As they are getting used to there new space it can be stressful on them so they might not eat at all the first or second day if he is not eating after two weeks definitely check your temps and uvb.

    Thank you for the incredible tips and content! I have a couple questions about my leopard gecko that I recently got back in August 2023. I was told by a couple of people to wait a year until putting in substrate because of the risk of impaction. This sounds legit but since you have so many different reptiles, I wanted to ask you about it. Is it okay to use a substrate for a leopard gecko who I obtained in August but I'm not sure when he was born since I adopted and didn't buy him. I would say he is probably 5-6 months old since he wasn't an infant but he wasn't that big yet. If it is okay to use substrate before a year old, would you recommend using your custom topsoil/play sand mixture or a store bought one?

    Hii! This isn’t related to this video, but I wanted to comment here since it’s your most recent. I’ve learned that height in terrariums for Anoles are more important than width. I have two Anoles that I rescued from outside and didn’t find out until recently that they’re both males, so I’m going to separate them. Since I plan on releasing them in the spring, I don’t want to splurge, so I plan to get a 40 gallon tank with a divider for the both of them. Since it’s only for a few months, should they be alright with a tank that is more horizontal than vertical? As long as I still have plenty of branches and hiding spots for them of course. Also, what kind of plants would you recommend?

    This video shouldn’t have been posted honestly, there’s so much information in here that is just wrong. Saying a baby bearded needs a 4x2x2 is the worst possible thing to say, “Australian desert is thousands of square miles” yeah you’re right but thousands of square miles with foliage, tunnels, etc. try that in an enclosure because I didn’t see it in yours. an enclosure that size is excessive and unnecessary for a baby,, You bashed on heat emitters even though so many people who have been in the hobby use them, you mentioned compaction but didn’t go into detail about the cons of “real” sand. Not once did I hear you mention what sand is. Sand is glass, tiny shards of glass, if you look at it under a microscope which are expensive, more than that UVB meter but you’ll see the real risk of “real” sand. Also compaction doesn’t happen because of inadequate UVB or inadequate hydration, blaming it on these things is so so wrong. so I just wish you would’ve gone over this video and actually checked the information you provided.

  • @ChiefSweetsUniverse

    @ChiefSweetsUniverse

    That is the reason for impaction. This info can be found from the beardie vet as well. He explains that impaction is a result of poor husbandry so I did indeed check my information from one of the top experts in the entire world who is a vet and studies them in the wild. Sand is made of quartz as well. You get glass from heating sand to extreme temperatures that’s how you get glass. So under a microscope your seeing rounded quartz grains

    As a breeder myself I’ve thrown tons of babies in a 4x2x2 from the start and they all grew up exactly the same as ones who grew up in 40 gallons. As long as lighting is correct and you have tree limbs decor and rocks they will be fine. The reason I bashed on heat emitters is cause people use them for the day as basking lamps. I have text pop up and say only use for nighttime heat during the winter as well if it’s extremely cold as well

    The 70 watt is that mercury vapor bulb? If so that’s why the mercury vapor bulbs actually produce pretty good uvb should change it every 6 months cause the uvb does run out in it. They can last longer but 6 months is the recommended change.
