I got alternate exotropia after hitting my head against a wall, countless times. I was drunk going to make a sandwich, but I kept wandering around the kitchen and walking while barely conscious. I was concussed, but within days my eyes straightened out, which I attribute to wearing glasses. I can still voluntarily cause exotropia if I unfocus my eyes.

I've been In a study for Exotropia, and I've had it for a while , and it's actually very troublesome. I see two of things alot, and when my eyes are tired, my eye just wanders. Sometimes it's a bit hard because people have always thought of my wandering eye as 'creepy', and people have to constantly remind me that it has wandered, because I do it subconsciously.

Hi Katie, Speaking generally from the cases we have dealt with, this is something we can help with. Of course ultimately what is needed is a consultation with Dr. Steinhauer to discuss the specifics of your case and to determine what can be done. You can schedule your consultation by visiting us at www.visionforlifeworks.com

Yeah this can be extremely annoying especially while doing high stress work on the computer it really gets to driving me crazy I try to use an eye patch but for some reason that messes with my concentration to but I have found having I believe its called a stress ball or something like that ( soft pliable rubber ball) and working that in my hands and even using it to massage around neck and gently around temple and corner of eye can actually help a little, its kind of short term but it can help enough to get through a tough couple hours or so some times, but if its real bad nothing that I have found seems to help

I have I-XT but unlike I've seen/heard from other cases, I can sort of control it, in a way that I can force my left eye to deviate, however it happens most when my eyes are overworked and tired. The image that splits off can be seen if I focus, the left eye appears to deviate to the left, slightly upward, and axially rotate to the right about 10 to 20 degrees. I can see how it would tire the muscles to correct that all the time.

Our daughter was recently diagnosed with intermittent exotropia. She is 2 and half year old at the moment. We were advised to wait until age four to five for any surgical procedural recommendations. How does your therapy help for this and if so, what is the time frame for such therapy and success rate? Have you dealt with such patients and what age is recommended for therapy because I have also read it could do more harm than beneficial in some cases at young age.

And is brain fog and eye twitching part of it as well? I got that too.

Per Dr. Julie: Brain fog and twitching are not typical of exotropia. If there are issues with jaw and teeth alignment or cervical spine- it can cause problems with alignment of the eyes.

I'm in my 50's, and about a year ago, my *RIGHT* eye suddenly could not move past the mid/center point and the doctor said it was "Internuclear Ophthalmoplegia (INO)"... fortunately, full range eventually came back after a few months. Unfortunately, now the *LEFT* eye is not tracking with the right eye and starts to drift, even though it can correctly move anywhere if the right eye is closed. It seems both these conditions are related to the Rostral / midbrain, yet the experience is totally different. Is there any DIY check involving pupils, eyelids, that might further narrow down what the issue could be.. INO, Cranial Nerve 3 (CN III) Palsy - PCOMA, etc? drifting eye - Exotropia / esotropia strabismus ? amblyopia ? Convergence insufficiency. For example, I've read these eye disorders are often caused by mini-brain strokes, and/or thyroid issues.. if so, I assume exercising and becoming metabolically fit couldn't hurt. Are there any nutritional approaches that you know of that may help?

I have had this problem since I was maybe 9 or 10 years old. I am now 17 years old and have had an appointment with a doctor. She told me a 30-minute surgery was required (15 mins for each eye). I do not have double vision or a blurry one, but it has significantly decreased my self-confidence. I cannot look people right in the eyes. It is an alternative, and I can somehow control their movements, and it's not 24/24 though. Some people recommended surgery, and others strongly disapproved. I don't know if I should go for surgery or not. I am really scared that if I do it, I would ruin my muscle activity in the long term and other muscles as well. And if I didn't I would feel so anxious all the time. What do you think doc?

You are right to be hesitant about surgery for several reasons including the fact that it isnt a long-term solution and due to the frequency of reported complications. We offer an approach that provides a comprehensive solution to the things that even surgery cannot resolve. We are glad to help you whenever you are ready. Thanks for beinghere!

@@eliomdgt8479 Ultimately it’s your personal decision to make. But for the record, we are not advocates of surgery because in most cases it is possible to treat an eye turn issue without it and with less risk. But The question of 100% safety is for your surgeon to answer. However I would think twice if they said it was 100% safe. Thanks for your question.

  • @visontherapy

It generally means that you have a slight exotropia if you can move the eyes to make it obvious, but that you control it fairly well. We do not recommend doing this often, as it tells the brain that’s how your eyes should behave more frequently.
