For someone who has suffered abuse from his father. Calling me nothing and saying I had nothing of value. The buddist idea of emptiness always left a bad feeling in me. It as if everything my father said was right all along. Yet finally , finally someone explained it to me to understand it. Thank you sir. You put my mind at ease.

Concise, wonderful expression of the unity of dependent origination and emptiness! I met Geshe Lhakdor and experienced his wisdom. Yet, there is more to it: One thing more, is that the insight of causality described by the Buddha is deeper than the western common notion of causality. Second, dependent origination as emptiness is to be experienced: It is an insight, Panna in Pali, prajna in Sanskrit. It is the fruit of living the noble eightfold path: Moral life, meditation practice, and cultivation of insight. It is a lifelong practice of mindfulness and insight. Love, David Goren

Emptiness is not a state of mind or something in itself, it is a word to conceptualize « the absence of inherent or autonomus existence » where us, ordinary beings, instictively believe that there is such inherent existence. The fact that phenomena, which we identify by mere concepts, are arising through causes and conditions, implies that they are devoid (empty) of any inherent existence. When realized directly (not through conceptual thingking), it simply comes to understanding reality correctly, as it truly is. I hope it helps.

In Pali "Shunyatha" or emptiness menas " Attena wa attaneeyena wa" Means There is nothing as a soul(which going from here to there ,past to present ,present to future so on so forth) and nothing belongs to a soul. Thats call the emptiness.as the Bhante explained due to the existence of the dependent origination (causes and effects) There is nothing call me mine or my soul. What we experience is, the reap of what we sow in previous births. So by understanding this subtle nature of the existence.

Something that independently exists would have no causes, no preconditions. Also, if something were caused to go out of existence, than that thing would not exist independently, because its cessation would be dependent on causes. The Buddhist theory of dependent origination indicates that nothing has independent existence. Everything comes about by causes and precondtions.

A criticism that can be put forward against this process ontology is found in Aquinas’s modal cosmological argument that an infinite regress of contingent causes is unfounded and that a Necessary Being must exist in order to account for this chain of possible existences. As I am sympathetic to the Advaita account of reality (and due importance should be given to the fact that this school of thought incorporates a lot from Nagarjuna’s philosophy ), I can agree that at the ultimate level (Paramarthika satta), reality is empty of contingent essences (swabhava). However there must necessarily exist a substratum, which by its very essence is existence itself-Brahman, the Ground of Being.

Lukeeeeo like he said, “emptiness means to be empty of independent existence.” This means that everything is dependent on each other. For example, the floor holds us up but we rarely think of the floor in our daily lives. We depend on the floor to keep up from falling into the ground (multi-story building). I hope this helps!

Let me help you: 1. Emptiness means: things aren't independent of existence. Logically, Emptiness depends of existence. We can speak about emptiness, just about what exist. Because Emptiness is a object's propriety. Each object bring itself the emptiness. Which means: Emptiness of independent existence. Without existence, including Universs, we wont had that relation: Objects x emptiness x existence. It's the same: day without night, darkness without Light... What mean to say that emptiness depends on existence. Hope have helped you.

Those are different words to describe the same phenomenon. Because things have no inherent existence, they appear to emerge and eventually disappear, because of a coincidence of conditions. Beware of the implication of creation of something from nothing, ( the Tantrik and Vedantic wording can lead to confusion on this point) - neither Tantra nor Buddhism says there is something where nothing existed previously. Emptiness (shunyata) implies fullness as well - full of potential, full of the aggregates coming together in space and time that lead to the appearance of something permanent, but which inevitably disappears because it was never a separate thing anyway. In other words, pūrma and shunya are pointing to the same thing

If Buddha believed in reincarnation, then there cannot be no existence of the Atma (Soul). Because in reincarnation, the body does not go through (as u look different in next life), the mind doesn’t go through (as u cannot remember your previous lives), what goes through is the soul, born with a new body and mind. Now, if u deny the existence of soul, then there is no reincarnation, as it is the soul that carries forward to the next life. Or if there is no soul, there is no reincarnation, in which case Buddha contradicts himself.

Very bad explanation of zero. Why would there be no 10 or 100 without number 0? Because in decimal system using arabic numerals it so happens to write a number 10 you need digit 0? He mistakes number with digit. In duodecimal system or in any other system number 10 would not consist of digits 1 and 0, there would be separate digit for it, even in decimal system there could be completely different symbol to write number 10. It's purely arbitrary notation. It's like saying there would be not egg without letters "e" and "g". This shows lack of understanding from his part.
